Guido, from an old Army Helicopter Instructor Pilot, I truly enjoy watching you help the "pilot on the controls" feeding him the necessary data that helps him to not only fly the aircraft, but keeps him ahead of the aircraft. All your videos deserve an A+ for your cockpit crew coordination! I never stop learning with you...even with my lowly 4000 hours of huey time.
@GuidoWarnecke11 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much! I know very little about helicopters but what I hear is that you guys really have to work to fly stabilized in these machines... Training / mentoring is a special task, not easy but very rewarding. I had excellent mentoring for myself as well in Canada, South Africa and the US. Thanks for your kind words. With your 4,000h Huey time you are hovering in the top 10% of all heli pilots? Merry Christmas, Happy Landings & thanks for your service! Guido PS: although I understand and respect the anonymity of the web, I would appreciate if you could write your comment with your clear name - it's just more personal (unless there are any restrictions because of your service in the Army) Thank you!

Once when I was flying as a flight attendant (my job since spring til end of summer) on a ferry flight, captain asked me, if I want to handle the communications. As my part time job is Traffic advisory in private international airport, I am kinda used to use english for communication (despite not having IR english rating), but as we were flying above Greece and this sort of countries I couldn´t understand any single word! Flying above these countries is a huge experience even for very skilled pilots. Balkanian, Egyptian ATCs are really crazy thanks to their way of pronunciation. As you may have guessed, I had to refuse the captains offer. Thanks for another great eduactional video and happy landings Petr

Guido, a few questions, at 6:40 what is that the pilot do, is it a manual trim or sort of? also in the approach plate you showed i didn't see the CAM VOR, i saw what looks like the NDB CAM which is also the IAF, and what was your outbound turn 060 or 062? , i believe 062 right due to your type of aircraft, it was nice to see the full approach like this one, and these controllers are very polite and sound like human being talking ...
@GuidoWarnecke10 жыл бұрын
Hi Marcelo, yes it is a manual trim. The preferred procedure is to use the electric trim on the yoke. About the CAM: I made a typing error here and you are right - it is an NDB! The different outbound turns have a simple reason: the faster you aircraft flies, the more space do you need to do the inbound turn to intercept the localizer (without exceeding a bank angle). So we used the 062 outbound track. Thanks for your comment and for watching my videos in such detail. Happy Landings, Guido

Other than QNH, what other terminology differences are there? In the last year, the US has changed from "position and hold" to "line up and wait" which the rest of the world uses. I don't hear the expression CAVOK on US ATC like I did in Australia, but are there others?

Just curious . . . what causes the whine sound inside the cabin? As a soldier in the Army we would sometimes be shuttled via C-130 to drop zones. We used shooters plugs as ear protection from the noise. Is it the turbines or something else?

I've been following you for quite a while now and must say: Keep your videos coming! As a fresh flight instructor (PPL) and also ATPL Student - one question about the engine anti ice: Is the "below 10°C"-rule a general rule or aircraft/engine specific? And what other factors are of importance? As far as I've learned the spread is important as well - I can't recall the exact figure, but I think it was somewhere around 7 - if spread < 7, then engine anti ice is required as well (due to the high velocity at the intake and resulting drop in static pressure / temperature just before the diffusor) - can you confirm this? Greetings from germany and merry christmas! Johann
@GuidoWarnecke11 жыл бұрын
That is correct. Drop in static pressure lowers the temperature. You also need a "buffer" because pilots may forget to switch anti-ice on. All the best for your ATPL! Happy Landings, Guido

Thank you! Most of the flights will be out of Europe now. Happy Landings, Guido PS: although I understand and respect the anonymity of the web, I would appreciate if you could write your comment with your clear name - it's just more personal. Thank you!

Hi Captain . its little confusing for me . what the different between the Arc and Procedure Turns ?
@GuidoWarnecke10 жыл бұрын
Hi Ahmed, on an arc, you basically fly a circle with a constant distance to a beacon of a fix. Have a look here: pilotbrad.wordpress.com/2008/06/05/ifr-lesson-11-dme-arcs/ On a procedure turn. you fly a track outbound and then you turn around, towards the final approach path. Happy Landings, Guido

On second thought, I probably viewed it too soon before it had a chance to compile the HD versions.

What's with the white gloves? Is he a mime outside the cockpit????
@GuidoWarnecke11 жыл бұрын
Richard, this is personal preference. You see this quire often in airline pilots, especially in South America and the Middle East. Merry Christmas / Happy Holidays! Happy Landings, Guido

Thanks Guido and great video once again! Great to see some UK airports. I assume this was on your return leg or did the plane stay in the UK? Frohe Weinachten to you and best wishes for 2014. Regards Christian

Have always wondered, it is permissible to shorten the callsign to, say, Kilo-Alpha in order to expedite communications? ATC would have to accept to avoid clashes but is there actual phraseology for this? PS: Did the TRs fail to deploy?
@GuidoWarnecke11 жыл бұрын
Hi Max, ICAO rules allow to abbreviate the call sign after initial contact is established. Usually the first letter and the last two. A7-AKA becomes "AKA". In South Africa it is different, a ZS-AVB becomes a "AVB", onle the last three letters. If more than one aircraft with similar call sign is on the radio, ATC will make the pilot aware or may request to use full call sign. Like in any radio communication 100% understanding is essential. If not - ask! Happy Landings, Guido

Geniale Videos!
@GuidoWarnecke11 жыл бұрын
Danke!

@GuidoWarnecke11 жыл бұрын
Happy Landings, Guido PS: although I understand and respect the anonymity of the web, I would appreciate if you could write your comment with your clear name - it's just more personal. Thank you!

@GuidoWarnecke11 жыл бұрын
Alles Gute und Happy Landings, Guido PS: although I understand and respect the anonymity of the web, I would appreciate if you could write your comment with your clear name - it's just more personal. Why is this pilot wearing white gloves?

Personal preference. It was actually quite common to wear gloves while driving and flying. We still refer to a "glove compartment:" in cars. Happy Landings, Capt. Guido
