I'm so glad to see an update. It's one of those unique projects in youtube-land that is satisfying to watch. One thought on the battery configuration and the short cable. Instead of moving the one battery to the middle, could you have rotated the front batteries on both sides 90 degrees and pushed them to the center of the car to shorten the distance between ports? It might be the camera angle, but it looks like there's room for the battery to turn, and it would make up 4" of cable on each side. I can't wait to see the finished product where you do donuts around the neighborhood.

That's a great suggestion, I will give it a try when I get home tonight. I also found canbus cable extenders that would also work if rotating the battery doesn't work.

I had a buddy in 1978 that had one of these wedge cars. He was like 6'3" and looked funny driving this thing around town. Obviously the battery technology was far difference than today!!! This brings back memories!!

Great video. I have the "newer" version, 1980 Comuta Car. It still runs the Lead Acid batteries.

Mine runs a forklift type controller.

Is that a solid state/PWM controller?

Alltrax 48v 650 amp controller. You will need to get rid of the forward and reverse contactors and the slow speed resistor. It works by using a speed pot on your acceleration pedal.

Thanks! I actually orders that exact speed controller, new wiring, reversing contractor, and some other bits a few days ago! Should hopefully be here soon!

I would like to put the epoch batteries in my citicar but I really like the old clunky motor controller so I’m trying to think about how to make that work

EV west has a few different electric conversion kits for DIY EV's. Or there are high speed golf cart motor kits

I've been following a lot of their stuff, having a look at their motor controllers may be my next step.

There's a lot of things that can cause lipo fires, in the case of mine, the cells were damaged from a crash.
