I'm so excited to finally see a cities batrep that isn't just all the new stuff! I'm starting my own dark elf army, so seeing this was great for me!

The Dark Elf stuff honestly came out king in the new book. the two chariot types alongside knights and whatever else are absolutely brutal to fight into.

It's a blast from the AOS2 past - the good old deepkin "wipe your whole army over the course of T3" special.

Nice battle. Rather brutal to the dark elves. Love seeing IdK again!

I love the high quality battle reps that you guys produce and i think it's awesome and important content for the aos community, which is also why i'm a member and supporter. However i have to admit i'm starting to become a bit disappointed when i see these, in my opinion, pretty obvious mismatches. Would love to see some more competitive oriented content from you guys where you showcase and explore current metapicks and strong lists against each other (such as Glottkin monster mash or a more competitive CoS list). Or if there's more of a demand for more flavour or narrative focused battles, at least make it so both armylists are built for that purpose. An idea could be to make specific battle reps for competitive or flavour focused lists? Anyway - maybe i'm just not the target audience. Neither am i in a position to tell you what to do with your content. Just thought i'd give my two cents. :) Thanks for good content either way!

i agree to some part but i have to say that i also like that they play whatever they like. maybe having that altered so 1 "fun" battle report, the next one is 1 "tryhard competetive" br, then a fun one again etc. might work. i also get that its hard because people also want to see different factions and they cant play all of them perfectly
@olafolafsson275511 ай бұрын
Completely agree, the batreps have become less engaging over time. More quantity over quality, just showing a lot of different armies. This is very disappointing because if I want to see some random and weird battle report content I can just watch MWG or sth casual like them. Also a lot of times one of the opponents gets smashed heavily. In this match for example after the Round 2 priority I just skipped thru to the end because we knew how that would end up.

I think it's clear they have limited collections for some factions (and guest players like the Cities player here may only have certain builds), and the factions they play competitively such as Sylvaneth and Idoneth have the greatest variety of options in those collections. But I agree that they could do a better job of deciding whether to play a 'narrative' or a 'competitive' game rather than play a tuned competitive list vs. a 'Dark Elves are fun' flavour list. SoW battle reports have tended towards narrative more than competitive in general, but I don't mind which style of play they prefer so long as both players bring lists that are balanced for the chosen gameplay. That said they rarely mismatch quite as badly as they did here (and some notable past cases have resulted from errors of rule interpretation or using builds that exploited unintended interactions that GW later stopped), so perhaps as their Cities collection is limited and they may not know what the Dark Elf side of the book really offers it's possible SoW anticipated the Cities list being more tuned than it was. Or maybe they need better communication with their guests - the team themselves know each other's armies and preferences well, so can draw up lists that play well into one another in a way they might not be able to with outsiders without more discussion in advance of the style of game and list each prefers.

Glad dark elves got a showing Next edition they will likely be removed if the Umbraneth are released
@philipbowles539711 ай бұрын
Dark Elves were on both sides... The Umbraneth 'tease' remains a puzzle. I think it may be a direction they simply chose not to go - they set the groundwork for combined Dark Elves with Broken Realms, then ignored it by turning Har Kuron into a gladiatorial arena and canonically killing all the city's mind-slaved Dark Elves. I'd guess they originally planned to migrate the Cities DE to DoK and create a new faction for them, but somewhere in the process may have decided that as the Cities refresh was relatively small the army wouldn't be self-sustaining if they did that. I think they're more likely to add Malerion's lot to DoK than add a fourth Dark Elf faction to AoS, but if they were going to migrate the existing Dark Elves across they'd likely have already done so. Corsairs are firmly embedded in Cities lore in a way that the Wood Elves weren't (and while the High Elves were, they were also restricted to a single city) and I think DE will have some presence in Cities permanently, especially as they're the only remaining elves in the faction, but most of the rest have little associated lore and the Darkling Covens should already be gone: sorceresses were exposed as agents of Morathi during Broken Realms and one of the associated side stories had Morathi using Dreadlords on black dragons among her forces (Morathi, unlike GW, apparently realises that Daughters of Khaine are a stupid idea for an army, so whenever she has a military supporting her in her fiction it's usually made up of Cities Dark Elves, mindslaved or otherwise).

Loving deepkin, great to see namarthi doing good! Dark elves cities army was my dream, sadly not much going on for it in terms of rules, cities book is good only if you are a human.
@philipbowles539711 ай бұрын
There's been chatter about DE armies, and Sorceress and Corsairs are solid (and Black Guard might have been wanted in larger numbers). I don't think this was aiming to be a very competitive build, while the Idoneth build is one of the best things for non-shark spam Idoneth armies to do. I believe Cold One Knights are the way to go, and Dark Riders have some potential. Overall Cities hasn't yet been proving itself competitively even with humans, though undoubtedly part of that is that a minority of players have 30 Fusiliers painted yet. It's early so the jury's still out, but GW might have undershot with that book.

Dark elves are doing well. Check out Noah Singh's list from the Everwinter GT, went 4-1 with dark elves. Corsairs, black guard, sorceress on foot, the Chariots and Drake knights are all very solid.

Just a question was wondering how you fit 6 battle line in a battle regiment cuz I love this list but app keeps telling me the reg has to much battleline. Totally could be wrong or somthing I missed! Either way love the bat reps keep them up!

Dark elf cities looks great on paper. But unfortunately struggles to do any damage. Even against a squishy army like deepkin, only managed to kill one unit. Thats been my own experience too. Which is a real shame

Yeah its been struggle city for me too. Post Cancon cities is probs on the shelf until the points get dropped so much I can spam efficiency the Delves into playable.
@olafolafsson275511 ай бұрын
Ok, realtalk. Love you guys. But this game is a great example of how the hobby should not be... If I were the deepkin player and we weren't at a competetive tournament - I would just not play vs this list and change my list / or at least help my opponent heavily in decision making. Maybe create a Video of everything that went wrong here, if you want to teach sth. with this kind of video... Because the way it turned out here in the video was just NPE and time waste for everyone involved.
@kynadr11 ай бұрын
Yeah…this kinda felt like a horrid mismatch, especially after reading some of the comments here about the Deepkin list being legitimately competitive.

It would be interesting to ear from experienced players what the mistakes were, for what I can tell: 1) The cities list is not that great: I would not use chariats and and corsairs but black guards, executioners and drake knights. 2) All screens were lost at turn 1, Begin of second killed the opponent screen coming forward so that end of 2 the Idoneth could charge directilly into almost everything. 3) Could have used the command to try a counter charge, since you now they are coming. 4) With misthaven faction and sono mobile unit ( like the drake knight) you can actually buff the unit and send it directly in charge turn one. Which is batter than getting you screen lifted turn one, and charged naked o turn 2 before a double.
