Something that helped me as a total beginner is the following - milestones give you money, so don't take unnecessary loans - traffic issues will impact everything, garbage collection, residents getting to work (to the point that shops are not able to hire), fire workers and so on - don't be scared to build more schools than you think are necessary - no need to rush and build too much too quickly, just put the game on maximum speed and let it run - consider moving building, changing your city design - landfills fill faster than you think - once unlocked, take the time to create buslines - some shops/ industry need uneducated workers - if you want to build cycling lanes on their own, use the land creating tool, cycling lanes do not sit under the road construction

Plan ahead for your future road network, adding extra space between roads for when they expand into wider roads. Use pathways, as peeps love to walk, so make sure your ‘secondary’ road network is functional. Bridges cost more than tunnels to maintain (iirc), so plan wisely

Even the base game is infinitely better than SimCity (2013). And a lot better than SimCity 4...however I do miss having deals with other cities from SimCity 4 and 3000.

i really enjoy how you explained this. Interested in seeing where the series goes - perhaps talking about milestones and how to start effectively expanding. I have trouble with locking myself out of space and dealing with the introduction of high density. Trying to figure out how to build new areas on the map or expanding organically is also something I'm struggling with.

J Johnson it takes practice :). I’d highly recommend using aerial photos of places in RL that are similar to what you are building. Also, just try drawing a road in the new area. Don’t connect it to your existing network and build a self contained area, then connect it. Hope that helps

I need help. Basic garbage functions are easy enough to understand. But, once you have a decent-sized city, garbage is a nightmare. I had a huge garbage outbreak (for lack of a better term) so I had to throw incinerators all over the place until the mess became less messy. Unfortunately, now each incinerator is only using 2 or 3 trucks and I'm spending a fortune keeping all the buildings running. I'd love to see how you deal with this issue once your city hits 200k people. I e also just gotten the recycling plant, so could use some help understanding how that differs from the incinerator. Thanks, love your work. Your videos convinced me to keep playing.

Awesome, I've just got this game on game pass and love it, from the UK. I could only see a few free DLC's but got them installed, not sure it was the one you mentioned. I've just unlocked loads of milestones, your videos have really helped me understand the game, looking forward to what the hell districts means and the fact I can add trees and canals, basically I'm trying to make the City of Bath in the UK. Great video, but I'd suggest one correction: the green highlight when you place a civic service is not depicting the coverage of said service; rather, it is indicating the happiness of Cims that are nearby. For example, placing a school or a police station in a residential area will cause the Cims closest to it to receive a happiness boost, but all kids in a city can still go to the school, even if their roads are not green. Please correct me if I am wrong, but I learned this a few days ago.

Most likely not enough power from the plant. Time to add another or up the budget. Buildings furthest away from the plant will complain first.

So once you've expanded to a few tiles is not possible to put your garbage/recycle centers on the outskirts of town? Ive done this recently and from what ive noticed they appear to work similarly to a "bus depot". It may take longer for the trucks to get where they need to initially but seems to work more or less the same. Is that more just a preference and efficiency thing? Hate slapping them down in commercial areas or near downtown.

The green street coding is strictly notional. As far as I ca tell, even if service is available from a closer source (fire, incinerator, etc.), often a city service vehicle will be dispatched from he opposite side of the city.

Noobie here in PS4. I have a fairly large city going, 4 tiles, info view shows garbage coverage all green I am CONSTANTLY getting garbage piling up notifications. Checked the routes for one of my sites and the truck route was going to the other side of the map. I checked every dump site and recycling center and they are all traveling across the city to get the trash. I’m a missing something when I place the dumps?

Garbage will always pollute. A little less with DLCs like Green Cities. The Eden Project monument can reduce pollution almost completely in the end game. So keep building!
