Thank you my friend for addressing this complicated topic. It’s such a double edged sword: tourism money vs tourism degradation of cities. As a visitor to any country I want to respect and support local people and economies without tarnishing the beauty of a place. I feel it’s always a few bad apples, those who only visit to party and take advantage of an exchange rate that makes them feel “rich and powerful” and those of us who long to meet knew friends and learn about a new culture. What’s the answer? I fear it will come down to governments putting caps on the number of “tourists” or instituting fees for “tourists” which almost turns a place into an amusement park. Great video as always. Safe travels✌🏻🙏🤙🏻

Exactly, G! As always, some sort of balance would be ideal. I think it can also be a terrible feeling waiting your whole life to visit a place, only to be seen as a nuisance to the local population. We must do at least what's in our control and you're definitely one of the good ones! Thanks for joining the convo, my friend. :-)))

I live in Oaxaca Mexico and it is happening here too even though over 40% of the economy is tourism. Locals have been priced out of Centro and during a water shortage locals went without while hotels and restaurants had plenty.

Hey Kong! Thanks for joining the conversation. I lived in Oaxaca for 5 months. Such a great place! That's very unfortunate what's happening there. I myself couldn't afford to stay in an apartment in the Centro. They were insanely expensive, so I know what you mean. I stayed veeery far out of the city. That same water situation is happening in Bali, I believe. The resorts take so much water that there's not enough for the local population. :-/

You will own nothing and stay in your 15 minute city. Does that make you think ??
