In order for Kwame Nkrumah to bolster his pan-Africa status according to the guest speaker, and also the Volta river dam ambitions, Kwame Nkrumah sacrificed the Evwheh self determination on the alter in the midst of "enemies". Nkrumah himself was ousted and was not around to protect their rights. The Akans including the Akyem had never liked the idea of the integration from get go for the fear of competition from a group that already knew how to rule themselves, so when Nkrumah left the scene, the plot was hatched to deny development to the area in order to dominate a people who always loved to be their own masters. Today's politics and the developments going on in Ghana in terms of the economic situation in the country is highly as a result of making every effort necessarily from the highest office to relegate the Evwheh people to a third class citizens who must be fully dominated politically and economically.

A point of contribution. Bernard the historian did not articulate well the various blocs that became a nation called Ghana. It’s made to sound as though there was the Gold Coast and there was Western Togoland and the plebiscite resulted in the integration of the Gold Coast and Western Togoland. The nation Ghana was formed from 1. The Northern Protectorate Territories 2. The Asante. 3. The Gold Coast Colony and the Western Togoland (a part of which LATER became Trans Volta Togoland - describing the Ewe part of Western Togoland together with some non-Ewes in the North of TVT for the purpose of forming a region). The arguments that some people were made to feel less Ghanaian is a dishonest one. All these blocs were new to the nation Ghana and none laid more claim to it than others. I find the arguments that Ewes have been marginalized in Ghana quite egregious to say the least; the failure of governments throughout the history of Ghana is across board. The difference is that most of these other regions owe majority of their progress largely to private efforts, spurred by traditional thought and culture in the various ethnic groups. For example, One group thinks building a mansion in your hometown will result in your early death and so build both business and home in Accra; whilst another thinks it is best to build your mansion in your hometown to get the bragging rights to who has made it and live in rented houses in Accra. So whose region will look more developed? The failure of governments is not to one ethnic group it is a failure of the whole nation Ghana. These arguments have been pushed by the secession agenda for decades in order to trigger a response from the people they seek to convince to secede. Deplorable!

Ewe Nationalism. proud of it. While Western Togoland is for Ewe people, Ghana is for Asante Akan people that's why Twi is an Asante language spoken in Ghana.
@anonimouz_83774 жыл бұрын
Twi is the most spoken language cause majority of the population is Akan. Western Togo land also includes Dagombas ,Guans and Akans but Ewes who started the movement want to drag them into it whiles their Chiefs dont agree.

To be fair Bernard, the dynamics of the voting or the motives have no bearing on the overarching results: majority voted for integration. It makes absolutely no sense, and it is an obloquy on the tenets of democracy to argue otherwise. When you lose the ultimate results you accept defeat honorably, no matter how noble you think your ideas were. It’s akin to saying because Ashanti region voted for NPP, when NDC wins the general elections the Ashantis (Asantes) can say their recognized president is the NPP candidate who lost. That would be treason and the arguments being bandied by the secessionists is treason likewise. The arguments for a reconsideration of what happened in 1956 is moot; the arguments are closed. It is dishonorable, disingenuous and divisive to argue otherwise and anyone pushing this agenda has no good thought for the future of Ghana. You cannot give any excuse except a legally recognized one for the commission of a crime; this is treason, a crime and there is no excusing it.

Nkrumah, the sad loner wanted the Amugah, also known as the Volta River as he needed it badly for his electrification project which only benefitted Kaiser to reach a point of billionaire. With his monstrous western ideological project at the time he teamed-up with the western capitalists to screw up the Eʋe people of West Africa also known as Amuawo named after the Amugah ( the Volta River). Read his last days in Guinea Conakry. Eʋe people are still here, getting stronger and stronger as we hold the key to humanity from the very beginning. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z3XKoa2CdtF1ndk

In fact, with how poor people like you talk, it makes people think Ewes are not Ghanaians. I have a childhood friend who still doesn't believe Ewes are part of Ghana. To be frank, Volta is really marginalised in terms of development. Our people there were suppressed and deceived to join. But who told you the people wouldn't be able to fare well when left alone?

@costacurta Ninya Ghana is different from the Gold Coast. The Gold Coast contained ethnic groups the British had colonized including the Ewe ,Gas, Fantes but they had not yet colonized the Ashantis, Northeners and the present day Eastern, Brong Ahafo, regions until the late 1800/early 1900. The name Ghana wasn't a thing until 6th March 1957
