I’ve only been into watches only for a couple years, and thought I was an “automatic only” guy, but I am slowly but surely finding quartz watches very appealing (especially a solar quartz). I definitely need a quartz beater. You and I probably both work for places where “if you’re on time, you’re late.” Thanks for showing us the watch.

Absolutely. If I'm not 30 minutes early I feel like I'm behind schedule.

Also a great “beater” you can rely on is a duro. People talk about them all the time, I was hesitant until I got one.

@@Uchoobdood Yup. Probably top of the list of many people for best “beater” out there. Although one man’s “beater” is another man’s dress watch. 😅

I'm a new watch enthusiast on a serious budget and I was researching this watch for a everyday beater, due to the price. I was concerned about the 43mm size, but it looks like it will work on my 7.5" wrist. Your review was entertaining and informative. Thanks and I look forward to more of your content.

Mine is the BM8180-03E model and I personally love this watch. My wife got it for me for $50 thinking I might like it.

Like this watch for its pure basic simplicity...something Citizen is so good at. I love your treatment of it with this review as well.

Absolutely great thing, no nonsense Citizen as usually. A price tag and a reliability has always been very strong point of Citizen. I must say that with so much Casios (low and high end) I absolutely love my black Promaster Eco Drive. I don't like that ''beater watch'' term too much (if I want to beat something, I'll take a hammer and I'll beat around the house whole day) but okay, I understand it somehow. By the way, my little cookie F91W is still in the box, unopened after 10 years because I want to just look at that masterpiece. great video, great watch, good job

I’m new to watch collecting so forgive my lack of knowledge but is this considered a field watch right?
@degenerateWA4 ай бұрын
I believe so. I don't think there's actually a definitive set of requirements that make a watch a "field watch"; rather it's more of a generally accepted visual style with a generally assumed standard of durability.
@NICKVST4 ай бұрын
That’s a nice looking field watch I must say you must have a huge collection of watches or do you sell them as you go? I like the fact that you don’t buy hype watches you buy what you like.👍
@degenerateWA4 ай бұрын
I do enjoy a good hype watch from time to time. I've got a fairly large collection; I don't really sell my watches. I probably should, but I don't have much motivation to do it.

Please no sapphire mantra. There's enough youtubers pumping the notion that sapphire equals quality, which is true for expensive sapphire and false for economic. It comes with lesser legibility and too much reflections or tinted AR. On a true field watch intended for military use sapphire is a no no and all the brands used plexiglass. On an everyday economic watch mineral is usually a better choice. Sapphire goes with bling and hi specs, as good sapphire is not cheap.
@degenerateWA4 ай бұрын
Interesting. I specifically stated that sapphire is nothing special, nor is it a premium feature. Mineral crystals work fine. I will always pick sapphire over mineral even in a military capacity.
@tozzifan4 ай бұрын
@@degenerateWA I have nothing against personal preferences. It's just that many newcomers could get them as rules. Teddy Baldassarre published 3 weeks ago an hot takes video in which he gives his opinion about glass types. On military watches I can offer a small example. I inherited a mil-inspired Hamilton Khaki quartz of the 90s that has blasted case, dark grey matte dial and double domed plexiglass. With this construction it does not reflect much light, as an operations watch should not give out the location of its owner. I am sure this can also be achieved with sapphire of the right shape and with enough layers of AR coating. Keep up the good work 👍
