Nobody in my families wants to hear it, cause they think my childhood was something I enjoyed. I can't even talk to my family, my therapist isn't bad, but he is under the opinion that I can choose to set down these issues like they are a bag of rocks. The little pause at 1:33 really sells it. "It's my little... secret." And again at 3:17 it just *screams* hesitation, the way they don't finish it and then repeat it, it's just SO FUCKING GOOD I AM S C R E A M I N G. It reminds me of when someone is actually going to tell a secret, they hesitate. They're hesitating to say it because revealing a secret is a hard thing to do. You never know how the person receiving said secret will react and then you get nervous and your anxiety is being thrown out the building through the roof via super cannon straight into the friggin moon all because you just told your best friend of your deepest secret. Do they still like you, do they despise your very existence? It's always a gamble when you reveal a secret. Especially if it's incredibly personal like some kind of trauma or something similar, I think depression is a common example of that. Even though this music video is centered around victim shaming I think it still applies because depression is commonly hidden and remains a secret until it is inevitably uncovered.

This is the reason why it's so easy to talk to people on the internet. When we talk to people we know, we fear they will judge us, but when you know nothing about the other person, only knowing what they want us to call them, it's easier to say that tiny thing that's been hurting you, pushing you down, and even the things we would never admit. As much as it would be best to talk about these things in person, to have consolation and assurance, that fear is more often than not, so over powering, we would rather suffer in silence, than to show people how weak we really are.

About 2 years ago, I lost my grandpa, my best friend to a car accident and my guardian(uncle) to pneumonia all in the course of about 4 months. I went to a therapist, tried to talk about it, I just couldn't. Then about a year and a half ago, I slit my wrist. I was found by a security guard on the apt rooftops just in time to save, I was taken to the ER and kept there for a few days while in critical condition. I survived, and I hated myself for it. I was closely watched over 24/7 after that incident. Not soon after, I discovered your music, it helped me cope with whatever I was feeling at the time, all the anxiety, suicidal thoughts and depression. Your songs helped me put everything I felt into words. I started talking to my therapist, I started feeling good for the first time in months. Now, even though I have such thoughts even now, it's not as bad as it used to be. I have healthy relationships with my friends, a really nice girlfriend and I just graduated as valedictorian a few months ago. Your music was a huge inspiration for me and thousands of others like me who had experienced loss, depression and anxiety and your music gave a voice to all of us. I owe you so much and I sincerely thank you for it. I hope you gain a lot more success and you reach out to a lot of people who might need your music to help them cope with tough times.

This make me think of my last relationship... Hope the next one will be more joyful. God, I pray I will be fine and that he wont ever find a way to contact me again... It does haunt me at times... Afraid to love again at times... It's scary to put all your love and trust in someone else hands. It got me in pieces... Shattered... Slowly building myself up though. Finally well I love your songs and I am thankful I can hear them. I also suffer from depression and a high case of GAD. It feels... good to know you are not alone. You will find the person to heal your soul as long as you leave yourself even the tiniest bit open to love. I found mine the same time she found hers. We had been friends for 3 years and a former friend of mine took advantage of her and was very very abusive. One day he just dumped her at my door and moved out of state. I let her stay and she slowly started opening up to me about the things that POS did to her. One day we were watching movies together and I wanted to be closer to her, but was afraid she might pull away, so I did nothing. Later that day she told me she resigned herself to never being loved. That sent my mind into action and I told her that she shouldn't give up just yet, and I kissed her. Everything clicked into place and it felt like we had been together for a lifetime. We are going strong six years later and will be married as soon as this pandemic winds down enough for our court to open. So I will tell you the same thing. Be Strong. Don't give up because your true love could be just around the corner.

Oh my goodness, I'm in literal tears after listening to this masterpiece. It's hard to explain what I'm feeling right now, it's a mix between being absolutely breathless and feeling like someone finally understands me. I'm pretty sure I have moderate depression. I'm constantly surrounded in family drama, friend drama, and just drama that I don't want to be in but can't get out of (I'm not allowed to leave my house ever since this pandemic happened.) I'm not one to self-diagnose and this result is only from a few online tests I've done in secret on medical websites. A couple weeks ago, I decided to try and get help and, possibly, get an official diagnose. I was crying when my mom found me, I was actually listening to Gunshot Lullabies. So anyways, I tell my parents, they don't believe me for anything, even when I told them that I have attempted to cut my wrists in the past with scissors, even when a couple of months before my school councilor phoned home because she though I was suicidal, which is true, and I received counselling for around 4 months. Instead, I just got asked if I was doing it for attention, they said I have nothing to be depressed about, and they criticized me when I told them some of the stuff I was depressed about (a few incidents that happened years ago that, even after talking them out, I can't let go off.) Then the next day they asked me if I was feeling depressed, and in all honesty, why would I say yes when I got called an attention seeker the day before? So of course I said no and plastered on the biggest fake smile I could muster. Then for the next couple of days, my mom, in a way, made fun of my "non-existent" depression, saying I can't be depressed but want to hurt myself and constantly, constantly popping out our private talk in public situations. Even when I recently came out to my parents as pansexual, I'm told it's normal for girls to want to experiment and that I've never dated a girl (I have online dated girls a few times, never physically dated any.) so I wouldn't know, even when I've felt this way before I knew what pansexuality was and what the "normal standards" are . Little do my parents know that sometimes when I'm in my room, I'm crying because my demons are tearing me apart. When I hold a bottle of pills longer than I should be, I'm thinking about how much I would have to take to overdose. When my own mother says I'm worthless when she's in a fit on anxiety, I'll remember it for as long as I live. The only person I feel comfortable to talk to is my best friend, I'd say we're practically sisters. It's better than having no one, but it hurts that I'm not comfortable telling my parents anything personal about myself. I just realized how long this is, sorry for that. I just feel safe in the comment section telling my story, your music has changed my life. Whenever I get into a rut of self doubt and my demons come back to haunt me, I turn your music up real high and sing, sometimes it's just sitting on my bed crying everything out, and that quiets them down for a little bit. Thank you guys so, so much from the bottom of my heart for what you do, it's helped me and lots of others cope. Much love to you guys and God bless

Not many bands tackle themes like you guys do. I've never felt so listened to. People always talk about pedophilia, but don't think of online grooming as a way of being traumatized- it took me 4 years to even think of the experience as actually being traumatic. After my first therapist did absolutely nothing with my story, I thought I was just overreacting. There are so many forms of abuse, big or small. There are victims from all walks of life. Society has to see and acknowledge this. Thank you for making this.

I have Schizophrenia, PTSD and depression and the PTSD haunts me and I have constant nightmares so I barely sleep because if I do, the nightmares start and it scares me. My schizophrenia is a battle between getting better and not. When I'm playing a video game and talking to myself, I'm redirecting the voices i hear but no video game, no way to redirect them. Its my secret i keep to myself because no one except for a few of my family members and a close friend of mine actually know about it. I was in the psych ward for it because it was getting worse but I'm on medication for it but what I'm trying to say is, your music helps remind me that I'm not alone and that I'm not the only one who has problems with mental health

I'm 51 and have major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety, social anxiety, Complex PTSD and fibromyalgia due to abuse and trauma I've dealt with since I was 3 yrs old. Some days I see myself as a victim still, some days I see myself as a Survivor. I've recently found Citizen Soldier and so many of the songs give me permission to let some emotion out, to cry instead of holding it in all of the time. If I hadn't had music (metal and hair bands) in my life as a teen, I wouldn't have made it. Music is a Universal language that connects all. You will get to a point, hopefully, where you can speak your truth. There is NO SHAME in having been abused or in dealing with mental health issues that come from that abuse and trauma.
