Interestingly, my final 2 choices were between these two bikes and I got the Ocelot Pro. If I had the chance to do over again, I still would pick the Ocelot Pro. I don't like the limited throttle in PAS mode with the Kommoda. That said, I do like the full suspension on the Kommoda. That said, either is fine for me. I already know that when I find the exact ebike I want when the Ebikes evolve...I will be buying one. For now, the Ocelot Pro is fine.

When I first started riding my Ocelot, I used the cruise control feature a lot. Just throttle up, hold it for 8 seconds, and run! I liked the vicarious thrill of speeding effortlessly up and down the highways. It was a rush. After a month or so, my habits have changed. I’m back to riding the Ocelot more like a bicycle. A faster bicycle. A bicycle that easily climbs hills. But not a speed demon. So, while the cruise control is a nice option to have, I don’t use it any more. Other comments: Customer Service. Magicycle’s CS is “attentive”. They are quick to answer complaints. They are not “responsive”. It takes a while to get the simplest questions resolved. The reason being the tremendous language gulf in communication. This is a problem when dealing with any Chinese manufacturer. It takes several cycles on questions/answers before making any headway. Comfort. I, too, have installed a Bikeroo saddle. It’s an inch shorter (lengthwise) than the comparable Cloud 9, making the Bikeroo easier to mount and dismount. Unlike CitizenCycle, I have a Suntour NCX seat post. I find that it smooths out my ride extremely well. Not as good as the Kommoda’s full suspension, but more than adequate for my needs. I’m pleased with my ride. Speed/Power. I find the Ocelot to be plenty of bike for me. More than capable of tackling the hills (15% slopes) in my area. More than fast enough. I find it to be a nimble performer. Fat tires. While I originally was not enamored with fat tires for my city riding, I have come to appreciate their versatility. In order to avoid a couple of congested intersections, I take some short trails. The fat tires (and NCX seatpost) make it easy to do. Warning. There is one feature that I think should be immediately addressed and that is the “push assist” (aka walk assist) function. It is intended to assist owners in walking their bikes when dismounted. However, Magicycle erred when they designed the feature for a walking speed of 5 kph (3.1 mph). That, itself, would have been too fast for walking a bike. However, I measured the speed of the push assist (using my cell phone’s GPS app) and it came in at a whopping 5.2 mph! That changes it from a difficult-to-use feature to a dangerous one. My strongest recommendation is for owners NEVER to use the push assist.

Thanks for this video, I am thinking of buying the Kommoda myself. I am 74 and 5' tall so I think it will suit me fine. Over here in the uk these bikes are restricted by law to about 15mph, maybe one day the law will change to the same has the rest of Europe. To be honest it does not bother me too much. I love cycling but my back is starting to play up going up hills nowadays so looking for something to ease the pain. Thanks again, I try to keep with just uk reviews but yours is very comprehensive. Regarding pedal strikes....now you know why the stock pedals are foldable.....and you're correct about the strikes being the result of the rear suspension compressing and lowering the effective ground clearance. A quick vid on how you swapped out the stock rear shock for the DMN shock would be great. Thanks for the great vids, you're my go-to guy! 🤘

Thanks for the comparison, great video as you always do. Personally I like the cruise control feature especially for commuting to work. One thing you didn't mention is the turning radius of the Kommoda, the motorcycle type forks limit how far you can turn the bars right to left. Tough call for me though with the Kommoda suspension and great looks but ultimately I'd chose power and speed over suspension. There are much better suspension seat posts you can buy if needed.

After owning a few different e-bikes and putting down some miles in varying conditions I can say that for me being able to fine tune your pas power levels and having full power throttle anytime is HUGE. It just gives you so much more control in an instant. I initially didn’t think I would care that much as long as I could quickly switch pas level but I found real quick I only want to ride the bikes I can dial in exactly how I like.

@@sp33dybiscuit I have the Wired Cruiser (latest version) in White. Favorite bike that I’ve ridden. However I wanted the Freedom and am planning to have that as well in the October shipment. I can tell you for certain which I prefer after a few miles. But I will say in 1 way and 1 way only I like my Magicycle cruiser better, that is the ability to fine tune each pas level independently. The Wired bike doesn’t allow this but does have settings to adjust pas intensity/ramp up overall all and does a really good torque sensor imitation through the software. Just not quite as exact as setting the % for each pas.

The Kommoda is the best-looking 20" step thru e-bike I've seen. Very nice design. I like the front fork and the ability to upgrade the rear shock. I wish it had a bigger battery, but I'm leaning toward the Kommoda, even though the Magicycle has more power and a bigger battery.

Thanks for another interesting video. Over the past 8 years I tried several saddles and suspension seat posts including the Zoom-type like you put on the Ocelot, a Rinston Spring type, and finally, a Redshift ShockStop that works great. Good comparison video CC, I'm glad you mentioned the 8 second auto cruise feature on the Ocelot Pro as it is not mentioned in any of Magicycle's ad info, or owners manual. I also asked them "why did you not make a way to disable that feature?" I think all cruise control should be operator choice on/off, not engineered in. An easy way for my wife to get going is to start out power on throttle only in PAS 0, and then start pedaling, if she wanted to. Magicycle changed that, now you have to be power on PAS 1-7 to use the throttle at all, so one has to pedal to get going. We sold her cruiser because it's a little too high for her, ordered the ocelot in Sept. It fit her very well, but because of the auto cruise we returned it. Back to the drawing board.....

Hi! I was about to buy the ocelot and saw your comment. Are you saying that you can’t use throttle only at anytime unless you pedal first?
@buckrogers2360
@buckrogers2360 Жыл бұрын
@@norangeito No, I'm saying the throttle will not work unless you are in PAS 1 or up, even if the power is turned on, as Magicycle changed the way the throttle will work. On my cruiser you can take off in PAS 0, throttle only, therefore eliminating any possible forward movement of the bike if you put forward pressure on any pedal getting started the bike will not try to go. On the Ocelot pedal assist MUST be at PAS 1 or more, or the throttle will not work.

I do not own either one, but am leaning toward the Magicycle. First of all, a better comparison would be to compare the Magicycle Deer to the Kommoda, as the Deer has dual suspension. Also, when you talk about things you like on either bike (such as the forks, or short fenders, explain why you have those preferences, because it might be something tangible to us, vs. just cosmetic or personal preferences. As to pedal strikes, you answered your own question, as the dual suspension will compress, causing it to be intermittently lower.

Fantastic! Two bikes on my short list. If only the Kommodo had the Ocelot battery. In my checklist, I show the Kommoda as having cruise control too. Does it not? It's rather important for me as I have carpal tunnel syndrome and can't hold a grip for very long. I have a Honda GoldWing and cruise is a Godsend for me. I actually preferred to ride my Suzuki Burgman but no cruise. One thing that I'd like to see is tire options. I'd go for street tread to keep the noise down. I'll be on bike trails at times but nothing that needs aggressive tread.

I would definitely look at adding motorcycle style mirrors like on your Kawasaki. They look cool and would look cool on an ebike. I definitely like the front light upgrade but don't like that light bracket which brings the front light forward. I'd modify it to be more recessed. Better still, I'd get a motorbike light added for me as don't have the knowhow to do it myself. Maybe you could explore those options..

Great video! Just in time for me, as I’ve been comparing both. Do you think the Kammodo is due for an upgrade, that perhaps will include a battery with more capacity and/or more power? Also, is there a way to adjust the handlebars for a shorter reach? I’m 5’2” and even your wife was reaching pretty far. Have you ever seen or do you think it would work, to put a hitch receiver on the front of my 03’ Yukon Denali? My teardrop camper doesn’t have a rear bumper and I wouldn’t be strong enough to lift a folding bike in my vehicle, even if it’s in a tub. I love your videos! Thank you!
@CitizenCycle925
@CitizenCycle925 Жыл бұрын
I don't know if Cyrusher has any plans to upgrade the Kommoda but I feel like it definitely needs a larger battery pack to keep competing with other bikes. To bring the handlebars further back You could reverse the top of the handlebar stem and have the bars point back towards you, That would gain you a few inches. Or you could buy swept-back handlebars which would bring them closer to you. I no they make receivers that bolt onto the front of vehicles so I'm sure it's possible to carry your bike on the front of your Denali. I know you said you were camper does not have a rear bumper but you may be able to bolt a receiver onto just the frame of the trailer. That might work since you won't be pulling any significant weight it'll just be holding one bicycle. Most U-Haul dealers also install trailer hitches, You might be able to have them take a peek at your trailer and see what's possible.

You guessed it on why your pedal is able to touch the ground by just going straight because your suspension is to soft to weigh ratio buy simple fix if it's adjustable by just stiffening it up. Other causes are tire size for ground clearance along with the length of your crank arms or if the crank arm and the chainring are one piece then the size of the chainring will play a Parr in the over all length of your crankarm
