For the pan roof, why not apply reflective window film. It is cheap, easy to apply yet still allow light into the cabin. I have this on my bifold doors which are south facing. The film effectively refuces solar gain.

This is a great review by an owner of living with a city car, all the pros and cons. The fact it maxes at 28mph, means it is not for everyone, but those living in large towns or cities could easily commute as generally the speed will not be above what it is capable of doing. Cheap to run and keeps you dry if it is raining.

WRT the effects of cold weather: Must admit I'm still not entirely clear on what cold weather does to EV performance. It definitely makes charging and discharging slower (therefore reducing performance in driving, as well as regen performance). That's one thing. But does it make charging and discharging less efficient? That is, are there more losses? Also, is existing charge lost when the battery gets cold? And is the maximum state of charge that can be attained any lower, or does it just take longer to charge to X percent of full charge? These are all different things.
@ziggarillo5 ай бұрын
The whole chemical reaction discharge - recharge is retarded.

Hi Dave, I know this is a separate topic to your video but have you done any content about the prospect of road tax for EV’s in 2025? I’m hearing that most EV’s (over £40K) will be in the luxury vehicle tax band of £600+ a year 😮 that’s a massive leap if accurate.
@G6EJD5 ай бұрын
That is correct the so-called Osbourne Wealth tax will be introduced full details on the Government web site/DVLA. What’s not clear is whether it will be retrospective as there is mention of all EV’s from 2017 will be included, I think they have deliberately made the policy vague. Current extra cost is £540 for EV’s over £40K list price.
@G6EJD5 ай бұрын
Dave, thanks for this Ami review/insight I found it exceptionally interesting and informative, well done.
@TyKix5 ай бұрын
@@G6EJD it’s absolutely crazy to do it in my opinion. Maybe if the 2030 law had been kept on the ICE ban, then I would understand because they would need to start getting revenue in and people used to it. But the tories rolling back on it till 2035, we will see people chop their EV’s in if it’s not beneficial to them and just get a a cheaper ICE car again.

@tivvy-xf4kz2 ай бұрын
It will be interesting to see if the looming road tax for ev's in 2025 kills the Ami especially used ones. Yes it's a light quad but as far as road tax is concerned it will be the same as other vehicles i.e. £10 in 2025 then £190 at todays rates . There is no quad category for road tax so quads are lumped in with 4 wheeled vehicles so as far as road tax is concerned it's a car. The previous French microcars were the same eg Aixam etc. I don't think many people will be happy paying full car road tax the same as Teslas etc when essentially it's a moped. The govt. needs to look at this if they want ev's and small ev's to travel in cities. I've also seen the replies further down where they say it falls outside the car regulations but I wouldn't trust that info until we see it happen.
@ComeJesusChrist5 ай бұрын
If these vehicles can do a maximum 28mph as standard spec, they should be illegal on motorways as they are a danger to others and cause congestion.

A quadracycle would make a wonderful punishment car. Get caught drink driving and after the 18 month ban then the only car that can be driven is a quadracycle for the next two years. Imagine the drunken yob with his/her BMW being seen driving one of these by their mates. This is a bit unfair to the Ami which I like as a small run around. Possibly best in somewhere like a seaside town, the South of France or some island somewhere. There are too many aggressive aka stupid other drivers in the UK to make them safe.
