Oooo so stealing that washing up liquid hack 🎉and yeah the old 🚽 is the big diff to our set up too. We have a collapsible one, likewise for emergencies only, but I do always get 🚽anxiety as too used to having my solo porta potti 😂

We sit in the front to put the window blinds up. The set up at the back only takes about 4 minutes and everything (apart from us!) stays inside. Rear window blinds are done later before bed. As a comparison, when we were at the Mull of Galloway (video: ‘Scared in Scotland’) a caravaner took at least 3 times as long setting up his water, waste water and winding down his stabilisers. I think ours is not a faff at all when I think about our old glamping setup with guylines, carpet, cooking and bed to set up: best part of two hours!

That looks like a very neat heater installation. I have a similar heater and similar van, and have been puzzling over exactly where it is going to go; this has been very helpful, thank you!
@JustForTheWeekendvanlife9 ай бұрын
Hope that it’s given you some ideas. We’ve recently had to repair the heater. It wasn’t anything too bad, just the exhaust pipe that was a bit clogged up with mud. Works fine now :)
@john-paulattwood45159 ай бұрын
@@JustForTheWeekendvanlife Thank you, yes, just the knowledge that it can be fitted there is useful in itself. Hopefully your blocked exhaust won't recur, but if it does at least you will recognise the symptoms straight away 👍

@@john-paulattwood4515, just some details on fitting. There is a box section under the van which needed to be cut through, but it doesn’t affect the structural integrity of the vehicle and it has passed an MOT since then. You may be able to avoid the box section if you position the heater differently? Our mechanic tapped the fuel pipe into the main diesel tank as we didn’t want a smelly tank (that was supplied) in the living space. You can’t tap into the vehicle fuel line because of the vehicle fuel pump. He also put a bash plate underneath to protect the heater fuel pump etc. He used better quality fittings than those supplied as he said they were a bit flimsy and wanted to upgrade now rather than have problems down the line. Hope this helps? Any further questions please don’t hesitate to ask. I’ll just add, the heater is a game changer and turns the van from a 6 month camper into all year round.
@john-paulattwood45159 ай бұрын
@@JustForTheWeekendvanlife Yes, I was wondering about that box section. I'm not absolutely sure yet, but there is another potential place in what would be the rear passenger footwell if it were the car version. I can't quite decide if there would be room to fit the heater there without major surgery or not. Temperatures are still well below freezing where I live, which isn't conducive to crawling around vans and making plans, I'll need to wait until the spring. Regarding the fuel supply, my van has the Webasto engine pre-heater already, so I was thinking of inserting a T-piece into the diesel supply for this.
@JustForTheWeekendvanlife9 ай бұрын
@@john-paulattwood4515, we didn’t want the heater in our footwell as we can take the boot jump out and reinstall the rear seats and use it as a car. In my opinion the under seat is a wasted space and let’s face it, space is at a premium. My mechanic considered a T piece but said it wouldn’t work, obviously I can’t comment on your fuel line set up. He did need to drop the fuel tank which was a pain especially as I’d just filled up! But he had the luxury of a ramp lift to be able to stand underneath. We also have a factory installed plastic drawer under the driver’s seat where we can store 4 500g cylinders for our stove for longer trips. Have you noticed the cargo net above the cab? Very useful, we store the window blinds when travelling and use it for our clothes at night.

Can I ask how you run a diesel heater & fridge off a power bank I thought they only delivered 10 amps from the 12v socket ?
@JustForTheWeekendvanlife5 ай бұрын
The fridge pulls up to 20W and often less as it’s a compressor fridge. The diesel heater pulls up to 90W in start up mode then drops right back to 4W on low. That’s at 12V. Sorry, I’m not sure what that converts to in Amps. Perhaps you can tell us. If we want to run both at the same time the fridge can be plugged into the 240W 3 pin socket.

Q, ,. Berlingo's which I hope you or other viewers can help with, about 12 years ago I test drove a 2005 (I think) Berlingo that had been a mobility car, able to take wheelchair. It was very uncomfortable I felt every pot hole up through my spine (I've spine injuries)the car dealer said the mobility conversion was from a panel van and that contributed to the problem. I have gathered from yt vids that Berlingo's can come from car passenger or van version. Am I right? Did the pot hole hell, get better through the years. Does anyone know of info pages where the differences in the berlingos are laid out, and is there info on conversions of older berlingoes, you know what changes were made and when. Heres hoping someone can shine a light on it. I still have my Renault Megane 1,6 2006 which I bought at the time, she cradles my spine beautifully, but is now getting to the end of her life 😭😭😭, so I am tempted with a Renault Kango conversion, or one to convert. Or a Renault slightly bigger, not clear what model, again are there help pages?? If I do get to France and on to Portugal, what about the problems parking in small towns, how many have height restrictions, is it common, what About Hypermarkets, which I love, again are there pages on this, to help me decide which way to go, or can just go for it with an older Talbot type campervan- my favourite layout - older van due to finances, what does that mean with emissions in France, spain, Portugal. It's going to take time to build up my confidence, 2-3 days, then longer, so wondering if I should just go for it with a micro conversion, Renault, Berlingo, Toyota ( like the look of these) to at least get started and out there, then consider a bigger van in 2-3yrs, I'll have learnt so much by then and hopefully know more about where I enjoy travelling to, and what van suits that. Sorry for lenght.
