I am basically no SUV person, and no french car fanatic, but I have to say that the french manufactures stepped their game. Almost each model from PSA and Renault looks amazing and with the right equipment pretty posh. The are also very good equipped. I never though that I will say this, but I really would consider a buying a car from PSA or Renault. In my opinion really great job. More car for the money than at the most of the german manufacturers.

Just taken delivery of C5 Aircross 180 Flair Plus, automatic. I wanted this car as soon as I saw it when it first came out and it’s even better than I had hoped. After seeing so many reviews which, while praising the ride comfort, criticised the cornering, I’m glad that I didn’t take too much notice of them. With my son testing it with me on some twisting roads here in Wales, even as a passenger I couldn’t detect the infamous body roll as described by Matt and others. Obviously, fast cornering will result in passengers moving due to centrifugal forces, but that’s the same in any car! Even the infotainment unit is entirely intuitive and quickly becomes second nature. I have no regrets in opting for this wonderful car - I can’t think of any other car that’s so comfortable and relaxing to drive.

Quite impressed by this car and what if offers for the money. It has good proportions and a very good stance - personally, I like the space grey, white orange combination but it might not be to everyone's liking and the Interior is certainly not boring and has its own modern style. Big boot and 3 back seats, flat floor. Not a car for me but I can certainly understand why a family would choose this. Great work Citroen. And as always a great consistent review, thanks ;D

@@vjexxx I have 2 inguinal hernias from lifting snooker table slates that are inoperable because I have blood clots in my legs and lungs I also cannot feel my legs because of diabetic nerve damage and Ive just driven 100 miles to buy a 30k 2019 used 1.5 diesel 8 speed Auto and the ride is very good I did a 2 hour journey on the motorways M11 and M25 and some of it on the A14 and it caused me no real pain compared to my old 2018 Dacia duster diesel and people say they have a soft ride, I needed a cushion cos the seats were so hard , the cushion is now officially abandoned in the C5 Aircross, its seats are like arm chairs at home its a very comfortable car. Im having it adapted for hand controls. Oh and it sips fuel very frugally the PSA 1.5 diesel turbo costs less to run than the Renault and Nissan 1.5 Turbo diesel engine does, even with an 8 speed auto box with a proper Torque Converter, if you change the gear fluid every 50k the auto will last forever The Renault and Nissan Boxes are a Dry dual clutch electronically operated manual box and the dual clutches wear out which can be expensive in the long run. imagine the cost of paying for replacing 2 clutches and you'll be on the right page. I researched all this while looking at automatics to buy and Im glad I got the Citroen with a proper torque converter gearbox it is smooth and pretty seamless in its gear changes to. Citroen brakes are still quite fierce so remember to just rest your foot on the brake pedal. you dont need much effort to stop the car.

Ive got a 2019 1.5 diesel Flair auto with 33k on the clock as of Jan 2024 and the sports button doesnt play sound through my speakers, what it does do is stretch the gearchanges and it spends more time increasing revs between the gears, under normal driving conditions the auto box will normally race to 8th gear pretty quickly in sport mode it holds back in lower gears making the engine a little more responsive particularly useful if your on a hilly dual carriageway and doing a lot of lane changing in fairly fast moving traffic. The eco button doesnt really do much for fuel economny, Id say better fuel economny is acheived in the sports mode. I easily get 60+ Mpg on a long run and 45-47 Mpg Combined driving and never any less that 37mpg around town in stop start trafic. The diesel engines are addblue addative engines and the addative costs about 15 quid in Alid for ten litres and this lasts me about 8 thousand miles. The addblue system will warn you on the dash when the addblue fluid is 1500 miles away from running out if you ignire this the car will refuse to start if you run out of addblue. I havent tested this. The tyre pressure sensors are a little over sensative if you load the boot up and seem to trigger even if you have pumped up the tyres to take a larger load but it is easily resettable . I pareticularly like the speed limiter which I set to 70Mph when there are speed cameras about or i am in a 20 or 30Mph zone then I dont have to keep watching the dashboard and checking my speed I can keep an eye on the road instead, The gearbox is a proper syncromesch auto box none of your DCT dual clutch transmission here and the auto fluid service interval is 60k or five years which ever the soonest. The oil is very thin like water 0/w30 and cold starts in the winter seemed to me to be a little rough at first, my Citroen independant garage recomended some addative at oil changes to thicken up the oil for winter use and I have to say that the engine actually seems to like it on very cold starts it is much smoother.

@A real bisexual petrol-head Saying that cars from one specific country are awful because they come from that one specific country is stupid. You're not a petrolhead. A petrolhead knows wich cars are good, wich are not, but do not say things that stupid. Plus, I am sure you never even drove a French car. If yes, you would know that old French cars (Citröen 2CV, DS21, Renault 4L, Peugeot 205) are brilliant and fun to drive, but cars from late '90s- 2010s are pieces of shit for most of all (exemple : the boring, non-reliable first-gen 3008. Renault made some good RSs models thought). Nowadays, Peugeot and Citröen are making really good cars for the money (new 208 Audi-like quality for cheaper than a Polo...thanks to the small yet reliable engine). Still, Renault is disapointing with their "new" Clio & Twingo that looks exactly the same as the previous gen. Even the "GTi" Mégane RS is not a true GTi (~1400+ kg !! A GTi must be light, under 1000 kg !). Exeption for the new Alpine, thought. Cute car. So that's what I want you to understand : French cars used to be really cool (~1900-1990), then absolute pieces of shit (1995-2010), but now they are getting better and better (late 2010-forever?). Cheers, -A Peugeot 205 owner

Hate SUVs but I saw one if these with a manual today and it had a really nice cockpit with a chunky, short throw, stubby gearstick high up on the centre console, really nice setup.

Mat, you forgot to mention that they used the same central console for UK and continent, so you have sport mode button just next to your knee while you have to avoid your mobile to reach gear shift. or just to start your car. lovely idea.

I have to say that my 2008 Toyota Corolla Verso is more practical than majority of new SUV's and minivans. More flexibility with seats in the back, more room, and regarding cup holders nothing can beat it. It has 7 cup holders in the front, 2 in each doors and 3 on the center console.
