We just took a test drive of this car and were extremely impressed with how it handled the UK's scabby roads. It's so comfortable and as Dave mentioned a real breath of fresh air vs the 'sporty' alternatives, which is almost everything these days for some reason. The spec is very impressive and the optional pan roof and hi-fi upgrade just complete the package. It's very responsive too with the electric motor giving you that instant response when you touch the accelerator pedal with the turbo petrol there to give you maximum performance.

Great review. I like that you haven't treated it like a Nürburgring failure but as it is, a large comfortable, practical car that cossets rather than goads.
@CompletecarIe2 жыл бұрын
Not everything revolves around pointless Nürburgring lap times. Comfort is so often overlooked and it shouldn't be. Thanks for watching! ^DH

Quite. My morning commute involves travelling in traffic, weather and speed restrictions across Rural England. Why would I give a toss how quickly in car be driven - very uncomfortably - in an approximate circle in Germany?

@@Rapscallion2009 Yep, my journey's similar by the sound of it. I'm glad I have a last generation C5. I can take my time, enjoy it, and save fuel (£££). This new C5X is shaping up nicely for the replacement, when it happens.

Great review, do you know when it will go on sale in Ireland and be available for a test drive? I really like that it's comfort focused, I find a lot of cars a bit rough especially considering the bumpy roads for outdoor activity areas, beaches etc.

We haven’t had the car to test in Ireland yet to see exactly what it will get from a tank and battery.

Rear wiper is apparently not needed as the rear spoiler has been designed to prevent rain and spray landing on rear screen. Iveco has done a similar thing on the S-Way truck which prevents the side windows getting covered in spray by using a thin air splitter on the front of cab.
@steffenjensen93502 жыл бұрын
Living in Scandinavia,,,, the missing rear wiper is really bad, as well as the missing headlight washer ! At least it has normally doorhandles ;)
@groovetempleuk2 жыл бұрын
@@steffenjensen9350 I think they stopped headlight washers with LEDs. There was an issue with Xenons which meant the pattern was affected when dirty but for some reason it doesn’t affect LEDs so they took it off the options on many males including VW I think. My C5X is on its way so will soon find out if rear wiper is a problem or not 👍
@steffenjensen93502 жыл бұрын
@@groovetempleuk your'e wrong ;) Led's get as dirty as all other headlight types - but in EU washers are mandatory according to regulations, if the lights produces more than 2000 candelas, -so they try to avoid that, -as cost saving. the premium cars have washers as standard or optional regarding to headlight type and output. - and washers are hard to live without once you get used to it,,, they make a huge difference especially in wintertime ;)
@groovetempleuk2 жыл бұрын
@@steffenjensen9350 I see, in the UK the dealer at VW told me this is not required for LED and it’s not even an option on many cars to have washers now but our weather is not as bad
@CompletecarIe2 жыл бұрын
The concept of not needing a wiper to remove water only works at certain speeds and when dirty gets involved it becomes an even bigger problem. A wiper could easily have been fitted and they can often be placed so that they are out of view if the aesthetic is such an issue. This car should have had one.

Ive had a test drive, initially found it very smooth and comfortable and surprisingly the engine had a bit of pull. But the more I drove I found it lurchy on roundabouts and the seats increasingly uncomfortable. Couldnt wait to get out of it in the end. Shame because on paper it seemed ideal for my use case. The indicator sound really is like 70's TV tennis. In the showroom the interior looked really smart, the demonstrator we drove was the sales persons commute car and the interior showed the marks which gave the impression this is just cheap Citroen.

@@CompletecarIe It was the Plug in Hybrid which I believe is 1.2l petrol but could be mistaken, trim level was top spec. It was 6 weeks ago now, as it did not inspire me my memory of the event is now waning. Coming from my current 3yr old Lexus IS300H (which is no longer available to buy new unfortunately) 2.5l self charging hybrid, the pull from the 1.2l citroen was good and thats the only positive. DSG transmission of the citroen vs the smoothness of Lexus CVT which mates so well with electric. The lexus interior and build quality knocks the citroen into a cocked hat. My 3 year old lexus has less rattles and drives like its brand new, the citroen was just citroen. The new Lexus ES is £39K very similar price point to the plug-in citroen. For me the citroen is a more practical estate car but the Lexus ES is far more refined and comfortable and after 3 year the Lexus build quality will shine through.
@Rapscallion20092 жыл бұрын
I was initially impressed. But there is a big problem. It starts at 25k ish and with that version you get a 1.2 petrol manual. Economy isn't good at all and with a car like this you're always going to want an auto box, and if you want that you're into the mid range trim and engine and 30k+. The phev is 35k. Nice as it may be I think the depreciation might be pretty nasty on that. The reasonable purchase costs are probably going to be offset by viscous depreciation.
@Rapscallion20092 жыл бұрын
Turns out the manual isn't available (in the UK at least) but the 1.2 in the C5 aircross struggles for 36/38mpg. Which isn't good enough if you do the miles. There is no Diesel. The PHEV is more economical (IF you charge it) but it's also £36,000. Why they don't fit the 1.5 diesel is anyone's guess.
@sharonec54192 жыл бұрын
@@Rapscallion2009 Vecause diesel in cars is on the way out thankfully. It never should have been a comman fuel. It should have only been for trains, Buses, Lorries, Commercial vehicles and Tractors. I for one will be glad to see the end of diesel. Its a dirty fuel the worst of them all.

Agree , no point in hybrid , c5x is to big for city where you use hybrid and pointless on motorway where this car belongs. I would buy 1.2 shine plus spec top spec 1 year old where c5x looses 30-40% of value and become very interesting to buy
