For some reason someone decided the defining quality of a passenger car was to get good track times. Quiet comfortable ride is a vastly underappreciated quality, which the C5 provides.

So, so true. I think it was with the rise of German cars, especially BMWs, as status symbols that began this ridiculous trend. "Sporty" cars are only deemed desirable because motoring journalists tell people they are.

Hey, I know you're portuguese just like me, but I'll make the comment in English so everyone can understand it. I bought myself the saloon version last year for less then 5k euros, and to be completely honest, it was the best deal I made. I was looking for a car in this segment and I didn't wanted to waste big bucks on it, plus I didn't wanted to waste more and have a "lower segment" car, like the meganes that go for those prices. I bought mine 1.6 from 2011 with 310k km at the time and since one year of ownership it has made almost 40k km. It went several times from Lisbon to Porto and it just loves it. I actually do have the GPS, it was something that I really wanted to have in a car, and it's actually good. My father has a megane with a TomTom one, it's better looking in overall compared to the C5, but the C5 is all right. Unfortunately, Citroen doesnt make maps anymo, so I'm stuck with the 2018 maps, right its not that much difference, but for the time i have the car planed to last (at least 10 years) it will show it's age. One thing I was amazed to discover was the Bluetooth option, honestly I didn't think they had made in many cars at that time, and it makes my day way better having it. I believe that this car is very underestimated, and it's mainly because it's a Citroën. I love everything about this car, the outside design was what got me to consider it, and overall the interior design is almost as good as the exterior. In terms of fuel economy, I really go like hyper mile in it, usually I make 4,7l/100km, and I think the engine is very good, usually 60 liters can do like 1200km, on free way I really wanted to have the 6th gear, but still can make some fairly economic trips on free way, usually the trips to Porto are about 4,9l/100km. Really liked to watch these 3 parts videos. Obrigado pela história também, que desconhecia, vídeo muitíssimo bem feito.

Hello there! Thanks for sharing your experince on the X7. It was (partcialy) based on that, that I bought mine...six months ago. Its a 08 2.0HDI EXCLUSIVE, 220k on the clock...and an absolute gem! The way this thing rides is simply..."waftalicious". Impressively confortable, silent, calm...and I dare say...forgetable. Let me explain. The ease that the X7 covers ground, mile after mile, in complete serenity is inexplainable to the point that you even question yourself if you took said trip...its like time travel. You point where you want to get, and you are there! You don't notice the journey...you're just there. Done! If by any chance you wanna do a comparasion video between a "low" spec and a Executive...hit me up! Cheers mate! Keep it up ...and thank you...

Very kind words, Gonçalo. Obrigado! I keep hearing stories of people in their 2.0 litre-engined C5's, and I get envious. As much as I love this car, its shortcoming is that 1.6HDi engine. When I bought it, I knew what I was getting into, I knew it was weaker but the rest of the car had the spec I wanted, the 1.6hDi with 110hp is reliable and durable, the road tax was lower... but that was then and this is now...

I have been doing holiday touring with this car. One for example was around 7 000 km during three weeks in UK, France, Germany. Comfortable cruising, you don´t feel exhausted even if you have been driving the whole day. Its relatively quiet inside and seats are comfy.

Thumbs up for a beautiful review on a beautiful car. I bought my C5 Tourer X7 1.6l hdi in 2012 and I still take so much pleasure in driving it... Every hollyday, in Italy, in France, in Spain, Portugal, Germany and even 2000 km to Romania (i'm romanian, living since 2004 in France) every end of july to end of august, never let me down. I've put some mileage in it (260 k ) and it still is my favourite car. It's true that it miss a 6th gear but knowing my heavy foot i'm glad that they didn't put one.... The confort, the silence, the economy (i do 1200 km with a full tank), everything is perfect on this car. I drove some expensive cars too but the C5 is by far my favourite for long drives and perfect vacations. as you said in your video i always find a reason to take my car for a ride. The only thing that i didn't like was the screen on the dashboard but I've installed an Android screen on and now the interior is much much better. The sound quality of the old factory MP3 player was a bit shitty but the new one is much better. TOP Citroen C5 fan here and absolutely love it. Cheers from France, from my "german" car LOL

I'm a romanian young husband and father, and I just bought a Citroen C5 X7 from 2012 with 133k. It has the 2.0 hdi and a classic coils and springs suspension. The car is not here yet, and listening to all the reviews of people who criticize car for its wobbliness and the lack of sportiness, I kinda got scared. I was close to buying a Skoda Octavia 2 Facelift Combi from 2012, and honestly I begun to regret the choice I made with the Citroen C5, but watching your review... Man, I thank you for this review. Can't wait for the car to arrive

Just watched all of the reviews and ending on this one ( was interested in the ownership and final part most ). Wanted to say thanks a lot for going over the sensical stuff.. it's so annoying going over reviews which just go over the spredsheet information and give no information about things affecting you on the daily. I got my first car a couple of months ago, an 1998 volvo v40 1.8 petrol and am thinking of switching to this for the diesel and the suspension as I find I also only care about ride comfort and fuel economy. Only downside I see is that ridiculous coffe holder placement so will have to get some air vent holders or something lol.

Yes, the 2.2 is a lot thirstier with its two turbos. Although on my gentle commute around the m25 I can get 50mpg, but a tank average is usually 40. But I love the hydractive
@comcarclub3 жыл бұрын
Interesting. If you go further afield, on a longer, uninterrupted A-road with few hills for example, can you get higher than 50 mpg?
@ciaranwebb68713 жыл бұрын
@@comcarclub It's possible if you leave it in 6th gear. I've seen 55 mpg when keeping the speed under 60, which considering the weight of the thing isn't half bad. But that's driving really gently!
@dufonrafal2 жыл бұрын
The 2.2 HDi 170 had two turbo but the 2.2 HDi 204 only had one and wasn't to bad on fuel either. But the 170 had a 6 speed manual while the 204 had a 6 speed auto that was, not as bad as an old 4 speed, but still a little bit thirsty. The 3.0 V6 HDi 240 was the best to drive though, even better than the 2.7 V6 HDi 204. The 3.0 i V6 211 and 1.6 THP 155 shouldn't be overlooked if you want the most refined, quiet ride. Or if diesel is banned where you live. Or if you just prefer petrol :)

The 2.0 HDi is far, far better than the 1.6 HDi. Much smoother, more power and much fuel economy as you don't have to drive them hard to get them to move. Plus all the 2.0 HDI's came with a 6 speed gearbox too.
@dufonrafal2 жыл бұрын
The 1.6 was the most economical, but the 2.0 HDi 160 was overall a far better engine while still being very economical.
@PedroConejo19393 жыл бұрын
My 2.0Hdi Exclusive Tourer (manual) will average 44 mpg on my normal commute (25 rural miles each way) but I can get 55 mpg on a long run, driven sensibly but not slowly. The hydractive suspension maybe helps with the handling, I can place it accurately and confidently if I'm in the mood but the car doesn't really encourage that - which suits me. I've never felt like the car was getting away from me even in very poor conditions but to some extent, that is probably my driving style. Comfort is always very high on my list of wants from a car (which probably explains why I've only owned French cars for the past 40 years). My wife's Fiat - her choice - is a dental nightmare by comparison.
@TheSoundsnake3 жыл бұрын
Hydropneumatic/active suspension is all about comfort. They never encourage you to misbehave. The beautiful thing is, that when you have to react quickly for some reason, it does so without fuss, even on bad road surfaces. I once parked my Xm (old fashioned hp) on a rocky shoulder when running into an ambulance on a very narrow winding mountain road. Full on the brakes with a hard jerk on the wheel, no fuss, pinpointed the car were it should be, felt as ‘business as usual’ for the car. Like it said ‘trust me, I’ll be awake when needed’. Which I think is the most secure suspension setup you can imagine. Comfortable and capable when required, inspiring a gentle driving style.
@vandur23223 жыл бұрын
No hyrdractive suspension? I'm so disappointed, because I really agree with your perspective and wanted to hear your thoughts on Citroens special suspension. As it is my 2003 Camry already has gas dampers, cloth seats and incredible sound proofing. I've driven it 850km in one sitting (Sydney to Gold Coast) very comfortably. Without hyrdractive I'm not sure if the C5 would even be a comfort upgrade.
@dufonrafal2 жыл бұрын
Well, it still has a double wishbone front suspension setup and the steel springs are tuned for comfort, which is the most important. But yes, the Hydractive will be the better choice.

Hi! I just got myself a C5 x7 2009 2.0 diesel and wow. I just love driving this car. I was always telling people that I don't actually like to drive a car and well.. It turn out it was a wrong cars (toyotas mostly). But maybe you can help me with cruise control in this car? I'm pushing "limit cruise", then I get "Cruise control paused" on the screen and then I'm pushing "set +" or "set -" buttons and it shows memorized speed, but when I let go of the accelerator It won't maintain speed. Am I doing something wrong or my cruise control is dead?
