Bjorn, you are being naughty starting the others with ~10 % but the ID.3 with 0 % and badmouthing it for fun. 😇

0% soc for the ID3?! For sure that will take longer and require more energy and time till 90%, I think this test only works when you make a calculation taking in account the actual battery size. It would make more sense to measure the time to charge a certain amount of energy, and recalculate this back to a same size battery for all the cars.

I believe he was fed up searching for the 4th contender in this review, found the ID.3, but did not realize that the video started from 0% (he normally re-starts recording when it reaches 10% to provide 10 to 80/90/100% video

When the e-c4x reaches 80% (3:13) it only has 38.9 kWh, the ID3 39,5 kWh and the others less loaded. The winner is ID3 because of the bigger baterie it's less % SOC.

I can confirm this. This year we had trip to Italy with our ec4, 3500 km in total, and our stops for charging were so short, so even my wife didnt have enough time to use toilet, drink cofee and smoke few cigs. We were not limited by traveling with BEV compared to same trip year ago with ICE.
@o00scorpion00o
@o00scorpion00o Жыл бұрын
You are limited, you just work around it, your range is much shorter than ICE and recharge times are much slower. That is a limitation, you do not get the freedom of ICE with EV and I say this as an EV driver since 2015. I drive ID3 82 Kwh and it's only just acceptable but recharge times are unacceptable especially when the battery is cold. Not just the Id3 most electrics are the same. The other issue now is cost and even VW said their EV sales are slowing, no wonder when an ID4 will cost over 60,000 Euro's and a little box like an id3 cost over 40K with small battery and half the extras removed to keep costs down. At these prices the ID.3 82 Kwh will be my last new electric car, it probably makes sense to keep it long term anyway as trade in values are crap, another issue with electrics is no one wants them when you go to trade.
@bobchin88

The limit to me is ICE having to go to the gas station twice per week to fill up instead of just filling up at home. That’s 20 to 30 mins wasted… every week. Then wasting time twice per year waiting for oil change at the garage… another limit of ICE. Finally not sure where you live but resale value of EV are insanely high here.

@@bobchin88 20-30 mins a week wasted filling up ? how's that ? I could if I had an ICE fill up at any petrol station in 5 mins, maybe another 1 min to 5 mins to pay or go to a pump that accepts prepayment. Oil changing ? that's a few mins job a child can do it. I live in Ireland, no high resale value on Electrics here. And the price of new electrics has gone up considerably. I do plan on keeping my id3 82 Kwh a long time, not buying new EV again or any new car, it's a waste, the depreciation alone would buy me a lot of diesel, never mind the higher cost to buy EV. I do feel there is a better way than to destroy all the land to extract lithium along with the contamination to ground water and rivers and the use of millions of litres of fresh drinking water. Or the slave cobalt mines. No, the more I think about my earth saving EV the more I realise it's all bullshit !

If you are able to get a E-C4 54 kWh hatchback for test and the 120kmph range test is not far off the values for E-C4 X then you can: - claim the same imputed 1000km range without doing a real 1000km range test - insert hotlinks to the old interior, driving impressions and banana box tests for the e-C4 and get extra clicks for free out of old content if that works then you can consider the same for Mokka, e208, e2008 and Corsa-e

Total Kwh input to ID3 was always the highest... I.e. was charging the most power into battery, and always on the front of the Citroens (we cannot see Model 3). So, is that correct to look only at % ?
@bjornnyland
@bjornnyland Жыл бұрын
No, there are losses in heating and cooling the battery. Each car does this differently.

2022 E-C4 (46/50kWh, net/gross) has a somewhat different charging curve than the E-C4 filmed by Bjorn. It can keep 50-55kW up to 85% then 25-30kW up to 97%, so not much time gained, maybe a few minutes less. But I do expect the 51/54kWh batteries to get a better charging curve with future BMS updates, so overall it's an ok EV.
@soundworks52
@soundworks52 Жыл бұрын
Agreed...the latest PSA firmwares have very strong charging curves and the charging curves are very dynamic which depend on SoC when you hook up to the DC charger.

100 kW charging is not a modern option. 150 - close to 200 kW would be o.k. for medium sized cars. It's probably acceptable for small cars.

Next thing you know it's winter, battery is at 5 deg C and it won't charge more than 40-50 Kw. With the exception of maybe the Model 3 which can heat the battery, the ID3 can too but it won't. electric cars have a long way to go before they're as practical as liquid fuel cars.

Fossil fuel cars have an impossible way to go before they are as fun as electric cars to drive.
@o00scorpion00o

@@timopenttila9104 Depends what you call fun, the id3 is too refined to be fun, it's rather boring, excellent build quality and makes an incredibly comfortable if not long distance commuter. I found any electric I've driven to be much the same, now that I've been driving EV since 2015 the novelty has well and truly worn off. The low end almost instant power delivery and no gears mean electrics are great for pulling hard and fast out of junctions and into roundabouts, however, from my experience front wheel drive electrics are a disaster, too much wheel spin especially in the wet and a complete turn off. If the id3 was front wheel drive I wouldn't have bought it. But almost the same level of acceleration from standstill can be got from an automatic ICE these days, depending on the gearbox. I wouldn't call electrics fun or exciting and the increasing amounts of tech can get frustrating, but that's the same in many new cars today. The more I've learned about the eco disaster that is increasing due to lithium and cobalt mining makes me seriously question the long term viability of battery electric cars. Perhaps some day we'll find a solution to making hydrogen safely and cheap and efficiently, it can be burned directly in an ICE too meaning no batteries needed. If they could achieve this it would be really good. In the nearer future we have efuels coming, rather expensive now and coming to F1 racing, this is a synthetic fuel and means producing hydrogen and sucking Co2 out of the air, I don't fully understand it yet but from what I know now battery cars are an ecological disaster from what I've seen and I can't see mining companies in these countries making mining more environmentally friendly.

I have e-208. Even if I start with a pretty cold (but near fully charged) battery, by the time I deplete most of it, it heats up quite well just from losses. Especially on the highway. When I started at 3°C and 95%, by the time I had 50% it was already at 15°C. And only a small fraction was highway. If I drove it all the way to 10 or 15% at highway speeds, I'm sure the charging speed would be decent, at least 75-80kW. If on a very long trip, the second and further charging stops would likely be at full speed. But I did not have to drive that far in a single day in winter conditions so far. What I'm sure about is, even at 15°C, it can take at least 60kW if starting at around 10%.
