There is just something so eerie about City 17, and Half-life 2 in general. It truly gives this apocalyptic atmosphere while evoking a sense of isolation throughout the entire game. You encounter others every now again but you inevitably separate and mainly venture by yourself. Truly grim. One of the many reasons why I love this game.

Me too. I love the way it echoes throughout the city, basically sending the message of 'you will not escape from the Combine.' Plus the alarms and chatter sound so amazing. Some of the best sound design in game history.

To wake up in the morning to see this menacing structure (The Citadel), which btw is like 3 miles high, hanging over your shoulder. The Overwatch voice ghostly computerized voice softly broadcasting your life or your death. Codes like clamp, direct, purify, etc. This made the game so unique and different from regular games. It was the environment which game you that sense of depression and hell.

You know what? I don't think Overwatch is a super-advanced AI thing. It's 100% programmable by hand. I mean, we've got the "Attention" starting every message, preset codes ("Inoculate, Shield, Pacify"), police codes (Code-5, 10-33, so on). It is referring to citizens as a singular (if someone stands out overwatch calls it "infection"), and calls a singular citizen an "individual". Overwatch uses a point system. Overwatch has preset sentences.
