LYRICS:
When I grew up
I had big city dreams
I wondered if the Bible was wrong
What the hell were they teaching me?
I was lost in thought
And I could not hide it
But the sun - it kept on rising
So, I played along
But now that you’re gone
And I write down this song
I don’t believe
This is how it’s meant to be
The church bells they ring
You can hear the mourners sing
They still believe
This is how it’s meant to be
The wheels touch down
All I can see is your face
Amidst the noise of those lights
The last thing on my mind was my faith
And then the morning came
And the sun started rising
But I was missing my friend
So, how do I carry on?
Cause now that you’re gone
And I write down this song
I don’t believe
This is how it’s meant to be
The church bells they ring
You can hear the mourners sing
They still believe
This is how it’s meant to be
Like a mother bird calling out for its young
I will sing it loud with all the might in my lungs
Cause now that you’re gone
And I write down this song
I don’t believe
This is how it’s meant to be
The church bells they ring
You can hear the mourners sing
They still believe
This is how it’s meant to be

I just want to comment on this and say that I cannot wait to hear some more of the soundtrack to my life. My fiance had passed away a few years back but when I first met him I had asked him one question like I asked every person that I meet the first time I asked what is your favorite song because people's favorite songs can say a lot about them. Well he had told me that his favorite song was I'm coming home from City And Color. That was the first time I heard of this band it was definitely not the last time I listened to their music. This had to be about 2014 or so. Now ever since then every song that I've heard and every album that has come up since has been right alongside the soundtrack of my life. My fiance lost his battle to drugs in 2019 I lost everything that I had ever loved and everything I ever had my home my car everything I even lost my hair but somehow I found the way to keep going. His name was Sean he was an artist he was also a singer and a guitar player in a local band that he started when he was in high school he was 42 years old when he passed and he introduced me to a great band now he had been listening to sitting in color since before when they was actually Alexis on fire and got me listening to some of that music also and I can't believe what an amazing voice this man has and what beautiful music that I had been lucky enough to getting the chance to see who they were. I can't wait to hear the the new Soundtrack to My Life it's been a long time coming thank you for being such a beautiful voice in this evil world your music will forever be close to my heart seeing it as though all the music has lined up to my life since the day I met the man that I lost thank you

Sorry to hear about your loss, Jennifer. My girlfriend Katie died in 2020 at the age of 27. We were both City and Colour fans, and the last concert we went to together was his Toronto show in November 2019. His music brings up a mixture of emotions for me, but when I heard this song, it sounded so familiar, like I was listening to it with her. Thanks for sharing your story, from someone who understands what loss and grief feels like.

Dallas Green, in my opinion, rivals the greatest lyricist of any generations. His music is bright and vibrant, yet poignant and emotional. You simply cannot listen to an album from City and Color. You have to live it. It defines the moment…it shapes the contours of your world. It makes you believe that it’s how its meant to be….

He was in his early 40's, married less than 5yrs with 2 daughters under 4yrs old. I can't wish him HBD cuz ain't nothing happy about it to me. I heard this song a few days after his passing and the lyrics really spoke to me and expressed a lot of what I was feeling at the time and still do. Especially the line@2:12. I cried the first time I heard this song knowing who and what it’s about. I’ve listened to it many times. I cried again watching the video. The shot of the horse in the middle of the video sent me sobbing. Dallas is a true artist.

Just seen these guys in Chesterfield last night and I gotta say, they fuckin killed it! Not my typical style as I'm a metalhead at heart but this music really speaks to me. If music has detail, talent, and most importantly soul, I'll like it and these guys for sure have it all.

City and colour’s album Bring me your love saved my life when I was living in my car when that album came out. I have since seen Dallas a handful of times live. All out of body experiences. Northern wind was the first dance song with my wife and I. Dallas has been spread all around the good and bad parts of my life. I owe Dallas Green my life honestly. During Covid I lost my best friend and best man. He saw city and colour live at the wiltern front row with me once. This song hits like no other, and once again Dallas plays a huge part in my life. And all I can say is - thank you. Grief is a fucking monster but this music is medicine. Thank you 🖤 Can’t wait for this new season of music to attach to moments in my life, and heal.

I had front row tickets in St. Paul when his show got cancelled the same day … I’m in a wheelchair so the tickets were difficult to get since there are only a few … god had to bring Covid to stop the show last time but we are looking forward to seeing a rebooking of that show … I play guitar but can’t sing so …. I thought I would compliment you on your guitar chops a little … thanks for keeping it going as you can see it brings hope to many…. Peace
