It's 2021, and the woman who introduced me to this song has been dead a few weeks shy of 7 years. I sobbed 40 seconds into the song the first time I heard it, and I still struggle to keep them back. She said this song made her think of me. I agreed with her, I still do. "What makes a man...?" I think I know, I think I might know. Years ago this song made her think of me, and now it makes me think of her.

I saw Dallas in concert, and honestly he's the best performer I've ever seen. His recorded stuff is amazing, but you really get the full effect when he's right there in front of you. There was just this immense feeling of relaxation during and after the show. And he's a really funny, down to earth guy. I love him.

I worked with some idiot who said she'd been somewhere he was playing before he was famous and hated him because he 'thought too much of himself.. like, he was just SURE he would be famous." Well, YEAH. He SHOULD be famous. Damn underrated if you ask me.

@@nathanfigy1661 Check out Elliott Smith. He's similar and probably the greatest acoustic player in terms of chord progressions. A solid 50% of his songs are true challenges even for experienced guitar players. Ryan Adams is kind of similar too in his guitar work just not as impressive as Dallas or Elliott. Though his songwriting holds up. Damien Rice as well. Cannonball by Damien Rice is a song that reminds me a lot of this one. That's a gem of acoustic guitar work too.

I cry whenever I hear this song. About 4 months ago, I lost my Fiance... She was my everything. We were together everyday. I got incarcerated for 6 months because I chose to live the gang life than to actually listen to her and start looking towards our future together. See, we were the sampe but different. We were the same in everyway emotionally and our interests. But I am in a gang in Chicago and she was from Wisconsin. She hated the lifestyle I was living. Well, during my incarceration(about a month and a half before I was to be released) I tried to call her, but no answer. I called my mom and got the news that she had passed away... I didn't know how to react. I got into a fight and caught another charge in the jail that day. Now that I am out, I still use her KZbin account and I likke to listen to what she would always try to have me listen to but I wasn't really trying to before. I cry Everytime. I just wish I could have listened to her and just focused on our lives together. Now that she's gone, I know I should be trying to move on but I can't. And the only family I have anymore is the gang. I know that I'm going to end up dying soon anyways. And I think I am okay with that at this point. I want to see my love again. I didn't do drugs(except weed) before but now I'm taking percs and Xanax everyday in large amounts. I'm actually hoping one day I won't wake up again... She was my light in all this darkness
@sarahapland42425 жыл бұрын
I can relate to your sorry. Lossing a loved one is so hard. Get some help and get out of the gang lifestyle. Talk to her often she hears u. Love never dies. Drugs are not the answer. Dont you love the life you kill? I hope you get better and follow your dreams .

Hey man - I hope you're still reading this. I'm so sorry to hear about what happened with you and your ex. I can't imagine the pain you feel. Like one of the other commenters said, I think talking to her really can help in a lot of ways. There's a lot of evidence of life after death (NDE's are a massive source of empirical evidence), as well as of communication with those who have passed on. One major takeaway of NDE's is that those who come back don't want to die right away as they understand they have a purpose here - so they aren't scared of dying and look forward to that day, but they are also very excited about life while they're here and the purpose that they have. I believe that this is a revelation of our true state here on Earth, and that you have a purpose being here. She would want you to live your life. You will see her soon enough, but like Maximus' friend said in Gladiator, 'not yet'. She is with you if you call her to her in mind - this place that we exist in that is our Universe operates in a field of consciousness that we are all part of, including her - you only need to draw close to her within yourself. I hope you are finding some peace and comfort.

This reminds me sooo much of Chad Vangaalen. Not in a ripping off type of way. But in a genuine/ mysterious neo folk artist type of way. This is brilliant song writing. I love everything about City & Colour, their songs really hit the pinnacle of emotions. This slays anything popular claiming they're part of the same genre. Bon Iver...Eat your heart out!

Fear. Every man has a fear he will never admit or it shows his neck to the world. The fear that he didnt do enough, be enough, work enough, take time enough, love enough, fight enough, etc. We all want to make our father or mentors proud, do right by our family, and live well, facing everything on our feet, holding fast against the squalls and strife of life. We live in fear that we will wake up one day down the road, unable to physically do what we did 60 or 70 years prior. We want to be able to face the man in tbe mirror and know he lived hard and well.

I love music that is beautiful and you can feel the emotion and connect with and you can relate to it. Music that can have multiple meanings. I love music like this where it can also make you want to turn it up loud and rock out to it. Music that is both nostalgic, sad, and happy at the same time.
