I tell people all the time that a smart is like having two motorcycles side by side with a cover over them (or more so like an overgrown go-cart inside a roll-cage). So if what you want is the vehicle that is the most maneuverable, then the smart is the way to go. If you want the vehicle that takes up the least amount of room in your garage, then the smart is the way to go. If you hate having groceries fall out like they can when a regular hatchback is opened, then the smart is the way to go. If you park on an incline and you don't want anything falling out when you open the back, then the smart is the way to go. If you want a 22 foot turning radius, then the new 2015 smart is the way to go. If you drive alone to work, as most people do, then the extra seats of other cars are not needed. (And I love two seaters.) But if you're afraid of riding motorcycles, then the smart may not be for you either. I think of mine as my little go cart! And I'm 6'5". Advantages of the smart car (though some may apply to the others as well): It stands out on the road compared to the others. Plastic panels can be hit or kicked hard and will not ding. I’ve had someone open their door and hit my smart pretty hard, but it didn’t leave a mark. Afterwards a friend asked me about it, so I kicked my door as hard as I could. Again, no marks or dings. Pretty cool! Has a split tailgate, not the cheap and less useful hatchback. Groceries and other items won’t fall out like they do with a hatchback. I know because our van is a hatchback. And nothing falls out on an incline with the smart. And stuff can be stacked up pretty high. Can maneuver through small spaces better than the others. (The smart is quite a bit smaller that the either one) Takes up less room in a garage. Much more room for other things, like my library, Soloflex, Treadmill, Total Gym, cabinets all around, etc. etc. Has a ledge that sticks out from the dashboard: great for pens, pencils, cellphones, etc. And it looks awesome! Can sit on the tailgate. Can stand on the tailgate. Can climb over something from the tailgate. I don't think the others have tailgates. Hatch does not go up very far with the smart fortwo so much less likely to hit something. Has a tridion safety cell so may be safer in a rollover crash or if something falls onto the smart. Can change body panels. It’s a two seater. Much better for one-on-one relationships. Never have tag-alongs! That's one of my very favorite features! With seat down and tailgate down, can lay down in the smart. Great for looking out the moon roof or for a drive-in theater, or just relaxing. In an accident the engine is in the back. It won’t be pushed into you from the front and is designed to go under you if hit from the back. I like that! Lots of smart clubs around. By the way, I have a 2009 smart. Updated: My 2009 smart fortwo now has 102,884 miles on it and still has not had any problems! Oh, I'm 6'5" tall, 250 lbs with a 36" inseam, and I've got plenty of room! And I get 35 mpg minimum and 45 mpg max.

I got a 2008 with 70k miles on it has 75k miles on it now...does the transmission fluid need to be changed or just leave it alone

Michael Suzio as far as I know of these automated manual transmissions are maintenance free, though you could have a qualified mechanic check it eventually. I bought my smart in 2013 when it had 18,000 miles on it. The odometer now says 107,521 miles and I’ve never had the fluid changed. Maybe someone else here knows more about this.

@@FrankATracy yeah I'm not changing the transmission fluid I got the software update done on it and it's fine the transmission is sealed...it was suggested to get it changed anyway by a couple people on a smart car thread on the subject
