I've owned that exact car (same color and everything) for 16 years now. It's a tank- I think the only thing that I had to repair is the exhaust and the altenator. It starts first time every time! Probably the most reliable car I've ever owned. With the seats down, the rear has about as much room as a small pickup truck :) Great in the snow too. On the minus side, it's severely underpowered and strains on the highway. 0-60 is in the 10-12s range. There's no traction control, and the rear brakes are drum brakes, so brake performance isn't the best.

I owned one for 6 years with the 5 speed manual. They’re almost the same in performance but the manual being marginally faster 0-60. I gutted the car entirely down to the metal and put bucket seats in it. With an intake, exhaust, coilovers you surprise a good amount of people. Can keep up with a lot of cars. You can get turbo kits for them since they run the same engine as the Corolla. 2zr-fe

Own one since 2009 , basically a yaris suspension and chasis. With a corolla engine , cheap maintenance. 180,000 miles. One water pump , changed it myself. 1 clutch change . 35mpg average ( puerto rico streets) full tank gets about 300 miles , manual . No leaks , love it . Small inside but great for students , really easy to park. Interiors really well built , easy to clean . Regular wash inside and out takes like 1 hour or less. Rear seats drops down and you have plenty of cargo space when needed. Best daily driver I've had really reliable. Just test drive it if you're a tall person .

One of my friends has worked for Toyota for 20 years. A few years ago, when they announced cancelling the Scion, they offered a limited edition where they only made 600 something in a limited edition trim. Being an employee of Toyota, he gets a pretty nice discount on a new car every few years. He had bought his wife a new Toyota minivan a few years ago and the anniversary date of his discount just happened to come up, so he bought one of the limited edition models. He's a big guy, too, weights more than 350. He flip flops between an older Chevy SIlverado and his Scion as his daily driver. It's a spectacle to see him get in and out of it.

I love the Scion XD!! Im currently 18 yrs old and I was thinking of a Scion XA or a TC as my first car, and it's currently on my first car list. The reason I say this is because they're one of the most fuel saving, practical, cheap, fun, and reliable economy cars out there. Scion existed from like 2001 to 2017 and the iM was the last production model they ever made. The reason Scion went out of business is because they never made SUVs (which are the most popular segment), and I wish Scion still existed today cuz Scion is one of my fav car companies out there!!

Scion XB--I've had three--first in 2006 had 1.8 liter engine--great car, thought I'd have to push it up mountains, but not so--the 2006 I traded for a 2012 XB with the 2.4 liter engine-my daughter had problems (family issues) so I gave it to her--it's still running like a top.. Bought another 2012-this one white-runs great, uses no oil...I don't think it's as much the engine or engine size as upkeep on the vehicle and how they're driven...I was (retired now) an automotive quality engineer--Scion was a joint venture, Toyota and Subaru, Toyota made the drive train and Subaru made the body--if you can find a GOOD Scion - it's worth it!

According to my driver's manual, its not rated at all for towing or even for cargo carriers/bike racks. Then all it needed was front wheel bearings and it has run like a dream ever since. It's a really zippy little lady. I also have a '16 Scion iM. The last Scion!

Her previous car was a 2009 Corolla LE with 263k on the odometer, but it was starting to nickel and dime us. Still got $3300 for it. We love our Toyota's. Or Scion.

I think Toyota created the Scion brand back in the early 2000s to cater more to the tuner kids. They were actually kinda popular back then. Those kids grew up got old and started families so they stopped buying these types of cars. The sales just weren't there anymore so Toyota discontinued them

The XA and XB was actually to hook the club kids! Look at the cup holder and dash lights they offered on them, and then look at the 3rd one they offered... called the TC! They dropped the X on that one, but that's exactly who these cars were marketed to... kids that were into the club scene. The third car should have been the XTC! LOL! It was absolutely marketed towards DJs and club kids.

Regarding the hot starting problem... Check the coil pack (if it has one) I have a 2004 Aveo that had the same problem intermittently. My research indicated when an older coil pack would get heated up, it could/would malfunction. I replaced the coil pack and have had no more problems. May be similar in the Scion... BTW and FWIW...I love my Aveo...It is well maintained (Timing belt at 65K) and totally dependable, nimble and fun.

I got a 2009 xD for my daughter with a peeling clearcoat, however it was well maintained otherwise and we gave it a new paint job. It's been a great car for her. The only negatives for me would be the placement of the PCV which is normally accessible on the top of the engine, is underneath the manifold intake on this car. Just beware there's not much room around the engine to easily do some DIY repairs.

In that time had water leaking from the tailgate, wheel speed sensor fail and the evap cannister needing to be replaced 3 times (each time id take one off of a junked yaris, great for parts for thr xD), clogging AC drain lines. Never needed to change the sparkplugs, had 197km on it. Despite that I'll miss the car. The electric power steering was nice in it too.

THAT WAS EXCEEDINGLY INFORMATIVE TO ME. THANK YOU! I was thinking about getting myself an older used, kiick around, Toyota. Now I'm thinking. A SION, with the,, 1.8 L and, manual stick. (If I can ffind it?) A logical choice! It's a Toyota! And yeah. Parts for years to come. Parts, forever. So,, whaat else of Toyota's might bolt on? How about a Supra,, grill? Avalon, taillights? What about a GR-8 front end grill? Could that bolt on? I've often thought about getting myself a used, 1970s-90s,Sting Ray. With a blown engine. And swap that V-8 out for a, 4 cylinder in-line engine. I won't when any races. Coming off a red light. But will have a greater chance of getting laid,, instead. As I'll take a fast partner and a slow car. I'm full of great automotive concepts. I'm from Detroit, from the 50s-60s. RemyRAD
