I've had tons of fun with City of Mist, but it definitely should come with a disclaimer. Because your mileage will vary depending on the creative instincts of the players. You could have a "Dresden Files" inspired street wizard who owns a bar that doubles as his location of power, turning it into a sort of neutral ground for all things supernatural... and another guy who's just "Iron Man with more guns" in the same game. Both are valid, but one is 100% more enjoyable to write stories for than the other.
@remainprofane77323 жыл бұрын
That’s a disclaimer for TTRPGs in general, but City of Mist asks a lot more out of you creatively, so such divisions are way more apparant, especially from the GM’s point of view
@Jaydee86523 жыл бұрын
That’s just a general trait of more open systems and I would argue it’s a sign of a good system, the only constraint to creativity is the player themselves.

Someone needs to introduce Runesmith to Godbound: the modular power sets granted by Words function very similarly to the mythical powersets and can create a lot of very interesting builds. Plus, I think the ability to use Dominion to change the world around you might interest him

I own the city of mist book. I have read it. I have watched videos like this one about aspects of the game. I still have no idea how the game is played. Imagine someone describing D&D for an hour without mentioning dice. That's how people cover this game.

@shabbatheguy96072 жыл бұрын
As a resident dnd sleeper I understand your confusion. This game seems to invest less in dice rolling and more into creative story telling
@carllomas48992 жыл бұрын
There is only ever one type of dice roll, 2d6 plus tags. What tags you use are decided by the MC or players. It's a rules light system, whereas DND is a rules heavy system. The comparison doesn't really work here.

I would really appreciate it if you made a video going over making both a MYTHOS and LOGOS specialized character. I've looked through the book and I just can't wrap my hand around it. While it's not particularly 'hard' it's very 'open' with a lot of potential options and I get lost.

I got the book and it does look interesting. I will say that it is MUCH more free form than most RPGs I've played. It feels like you need to write a mini-novel just to get your character up and running. It could be fun, but you'd have to have a group patient enough to actually build their character, and a DM who is fast at improvising due to how loose everyone's powers can be.

I just had the incredibly stupid idea of a character based around the common gag of introducing a gun into fantasy settings. So it's just a person with an unreasonably powerful gun that has the unfortunate "ability" of randomly popping up anywhere. Could be an interesting villian now that I think about it... someone driven mad by living a life filled with uncertainty, by never being sure of what may hapen next, where and when they are currently or whether what they're currently experiencing is ever going to matter again. So they turn to an illusion of a higher power sending them around in a desperate attempt to give their existence a purpose and since the only consistent aspect that always stays with them is the aforementioned firearm... they take it as a sign. And get to work.
@goop60393 жыл бұрын
Perhaps their mythos could be the idea of Chekhov’s Gun. The players are introduced to the character and it is made clear that their gun will go off eventually sometime during the story. Going back to your idea of them teleporting around perhaps that happens the second after they pull the trigger (similar to how the literary device is rarely used more than once in the story). After that you could continue with the idea of them trying to find meaning in why this keeps happening, and that leading them into situations where they are forced to shoot again, or you could have some sort of amnesia element. Then it becomes this tragic cycle where they are forced to keep causing other people pain, and live with the trauma of taking a life. Though if that route were to be taken perhaps there should be some sort of timer before they vanish so that way there is a chance of someone killing them before they teleport (and so that they can sort out all the misery of their existence before it resets). Anyway great idea, sorry for rambling on as I did, and if you do end up using this in a game it would be delightful to hear how that went.
