I love Baltimore and there are so many good things happening here. It's one of the most underrated cities in the country.

Eh...I live here. Unless you're wealthy, not a lot of interesting things make us underrated.

Thank you for featuring Baltimore and doing the city justice! Baltimore also has a Streetcar Museum featuring every type of streetcar that ran in the city. This makes it the only major city in the U.S. to have multiple active train museums actually located in the urban core and reachable by frequent transit and intercity passenger rail.
@CityGeekАй бұрын
That’s really interesting! Thanks for mentioning that!
@imnotsqiddyАй бұрын
The B&O Rail Museum is easily accessible by public transit, but the Streetcar Museum is a bit of a trek to access without a car.

Crime is definitely an issue and shouldn’t be discounted. When people say “it’s not that bad” it’s doing a disservice to the people. There’s a lot of people in a bad spot and dysfunctional aspects to the city. BUT it’s not the full story. There’s a lot of beautiful areas in the city, a great food scene and great art/music culture. So there’s definitely problems, but I love it.

I'm from the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia area) and Baltimore is basically known as the East Coast version of Oakland (DC being like San Francisco in this analogy), a roughhewn, deindustrialized, disinvested husk of a major old industrial port city that has tons of crime, poverty, corruption and generational dysfunction but also is slowly rising and reinventing itself as being more creative, colorful, quirky and full of character than its more famous neighbor. Its people are fiercely proud and hard-working and many folks working in the DC area (especially in the Maryland suburbs) have moved to Baltimore over the last 20-25 years because it's so much cheaper and still offers extensive urban amenities and easy access to DC and its environs.
@matthewjames206Ай бұрын
Baltimore has always reminded me of New Orleans. If you were to move New Orleans to the NE. Both cities share a lot of similarities in my opinion 🍻
@imnotsqiddyАй бұрын
Uh, dude I'm born and raised in Balt. We aren't your Oakland. The DMV is always arrogantly looking down at the rest of Maryland, especially Baltimore.
@imnotsqiddyАй бұрын
People like you see Baltimore as a cheap alternative to DC and have sucked the soul, personality, and identities out of many neighborhoods, while increasing living costs for us all. This isnt recent by the way, this has been a significant issue through Baltimore City's 21st century existence.
@Youtubesucks-w9e26 күн бұрын
That kind of sounds like what someone from. Oakland would say.

Being from the DMV myself, never once have I ever heard anyone compare DC and Baltimore to Oakland and San Francisco. Iv worked in, gone out to the bars, gone to the sporting events in Baltimore and DC, in all 3 Scenarios I have enjoyed going to Baltimore way more and actually don’t like going to DC at all anymore. Just my opinion as someone who lives in the Howard county area

This is your first new video since I subscribed (which I did immediately after discovering it!), and it’s fitting because I love Baltimore! Let’s go O’s! Meanwhile, don’t sell the skyline short. One thing I love to do when visiting a city is find an iconic vantage point for viewing and photographing the skyline. Baltimore’s Federal Hill Park is one of the best such spots in the country. Lastly, I’ll put in a plug for you to do a video on Norfolk, VA. VA Beach has a bigger population, but Norfolk is the historic core city of the Hampton Roads metro area. Thanks for the great videos!

2.8 million people, really...more like 1.6 million unless you are going onto the Eastern Shore across the Bay Bridge or Columbia in Howard County or at the D.C. suburbs or up near the Pennsylvania state line.
@harveyschwartz6789Ай бұрын
Interestingly, a city is more than it's buildings, great as they may be. In Baltimore, most of us stay away from the areas in your video because of who's walking along it's streets.
@henlo1910Ай бұрын
That's... not true. (Unless you're racist.) The inner harbor is a great place to walk around and hang out, visit shops, bars, etc. There are plenty of nice condos on the water and plenty of well-off families live in the nearby neighborhoods like federal hill. There are plenty of unsafe neighborhoods in Baltimore, but most of the places covered in this video do not fall into that category.
@1972RayАй бұрын
@@henlo1910 I worked in South Baltimore for 32 years, I have a bit of perspective. Calling people racist because they speak the uncomfortable truth doesn't work anymore. Stick to the tourist type things and you'll be fine, but a lot of Baltimore is a mess. Bad leadership is driving folks away, population declines every year. Every year. Except to those million dollar condos on the waterfront and well off neighborhoods like Roland Park, where folks can insulate themselves.
@imnotsqiddyАй бұрын
@@henlo1910I'd disagree only about the Inner Harbor. The past decade has seen the degradation of Harborplace, The Gallery, Skywalk, and more. A tourist's time is worth more exploring one of our unique neighborhoods instead of the declining Inner Harbor.
