A very strange story, an anonymous letter accusing the surgeon? I have been working in the health system for more than 40 years and yes, before every surgery, young or old, you could die of cardiac arrest. If you blame the health system for this, tell me why a young man very fit, in his thirties running many marathons died of cardiac arrest during or after the run? I have known more than one case. I don’t say that the surgeon at RVH is not responsible but people should wait before accusing a person, without knowing the fact.

The people are negligent. I went to the hospital because I was having pain and I was pregnant. The nurse in the emergency did not believe that I was having an emergency even though my pain got worse. After seeing four different nurses who all said to go back to the waiting room, the doctor who finally saw me was shocked when he gave me an ultrasound scan. I had been internally bleeding for 14 hours due to a ruptured ectopic pregnancy. The surgeon said you either the surgery to remove it or you die. So much suffering is happening at the hands of people who have no conscience.

If you have a loved one in the hospital, DO NOT leave them alone in there, and assume they will be treated properly. Learn everything you can about the procedures, drugs, etc so you know what they are doing. Ask a lot of questions. Have no fear in pulling a Shirley McClaine terms of endearment hospital scene. I speak from experience, loved one in and out of hospital, surgery, ICU with serious illness and rare disease for 20 years. Healthcare workers mean well but they are busy, they are human and make mistakes, some are just lazy and fed up with their jobs and some are on power trips at the cost of your lived ones care. Don't leave them alone, be present, be heard and seen.

But I met with the medical team several time, asks questions and thought I could die as well. and leave my children orphans. But most important lots of people prayed for me. and I was showed in a dream twice 2 months before that the fibroid was gone which was a sign that I would be ok. Canada frowns on punitive damages. It makes it very difficult to sue because the lawyers will get only several hundred thousand and it costs them that much to fight the lawsuit. If they lose they get nothing. Lawyers turn down viable lawsuits every day because the damages aren't high enough. I have very clear physician misconduct in my lawsuit but nobody wants to take it on contingency because the baby is ok (I had PTSD, needed a second surgery, etc, but that's not enough damages for lawyers to be interested).

They won't get that amount. It is EXTREMELY HARD to sue doctors in Canada. This isn't the States. Doctors are government employees and they are protected by the government through our tax dollars. I know many who have died through negligence under medical care. They will get an undisclosed settlement at best. Sorry to say this but this is true. The best thing the husband can do is expose them in the media. This can help in the future so cases like these don't repeat itself. I have known many who died in hospitals from neglect. Whenever anyone is sick or getting a medical procedure, you do not leave their bedside!!! Take turns on who looks after them My friend's father was in ICU we all took turns. Then one day the nurse told someone who was watching to go home. That night he died. The new doctor on shift moved him to a regular room where there wasn't one on one nurse to patient ratio. He died a horrible death as he choked. He needed his tube cleaned every 30 mins. Can't do that in a regular room with one nurse to 12 patients! If someone was there someone could have been with him and even learned how to clean the tube. They could call someone else to help and inform them. No one called until hours later after he died. It was terrible to say the least. Never leave them alone. Patients who are alone are more likely to die than those with family around.

I walked around with post partum endometritis for almost 2 years. Nobody cares. I am hunger striking the CPSO asking them to file criminal charges. There's many comments based in people's assumptions. If something like this happens, the first thing the patient or family should do is get a copy of the operation report (protocole opératoire), which is the suegeon's written account of what they did and how the operation went. These are normally dictated and made available to patients upon request at the medical records office 30 days after the operation. If there's none, or if it is refused, the ask the surgeon, and go from there, with an independent review. Rarely, malpractice occurs. But sometimes even a perfectly done operation can create an unexpected complication. In an operating room, there are several professionals working together and they all have a duty to protect the patient; not their colleague's reputation.

The first article I read about this case did mentioned that everybody's notes were different. There IS a cover up going on. The hospital is not even sure if the anesthesiologist was present or not for the whole procedure.
@devdroid960619 күн бұрын
@ElleNeNe I'm not saying that there isn't a coverup. What I'm saying is that there's a way for patients to go about getting answers and it starts with the medical records. It can, as you suggest, reveal inconsistencies and contradictions, which will better enable a patient to understand what happened. Many times patients have a bad post-op recovery and assume something wrong was done. Other times, they haven't been told everything or the doctor has made a mistake (as I've noted in my own experiences). But even then, every mistake is not negligence or does it cause harm, but it is obviously not the case here.

I had a prominent reproductive endocrinologist in Toronto botch a saline sonohistogram and induce a pregnancy on a weak C-section scar without my consent. My records were requested over half a dozen times. He has a policy of requiring him to initial every single page for release before his staff is permitted to release and he simply didn't. My requests were blown off. We paid to have our embryos moved from his clinic and he still did not release them. I sued him and got partial records from his lawyers, but what happened during the embryo transfer, when he saw the thin scar and transferred anyway, is not recorded anywhere. He probably removed it from the clinic and destroyed it. Very slim chance he will face real consequences, he has sat on CPSO boards. Maybe I will be lucky and my judge will be an IVF patient. We will see. My son was needlessly exposed to risk of uterine rupture because of the record hording, which could have killed him and the obstetric violence, where my repeated expressions of concerns were strategically blown off, left me with PTSD.

Too much anesthesia can result in death too. 2 years ago my black girlfriend went into hospital for a routine surgery in Toronto and also died. Then in October 2024 my aunt left emerg discharged after complaining of chest stomach pain and wasn’t looked over, she died within 6 hours of an aeortic dissection. We need a lawyer to help us asap

This is awful and so sad. The husband should be suing for no less than $500 million.

He's a surgeon for a reason and we should be able to trust him. He went to school to be a doctor. What the f*** I just had a baby a C-section. Imagine the diligence of work. If they didn't do it properly I would have died too terrible

I heard years ago that Canada doesn't have the best equipment to remove fibroids.

I do wonder what equipment They were using. Modern irrigation systems would be screaming with alarms before you get to 800 ml deficit. And you need to manually overuse an alarm every couple hundred mL’s after that.

Every surgery has risk.

The terminology in the letter sent to the husband is not a description that a nurse or doctor would use. Any healthy adult can tolerate receiving 2 litres of IV fluid during a surgery. That is not unusual. This man did not state what he was told as to what transpired and the surgeon would have talked to him. So would the ICU physician. It is possible that something went wrong, but it is also possible this woman had an undisclosed or undiagnosed underlying condition that lead to complications. It’s tragic and sad, but wait for a court decision before just assuming the medical team did something wrong.

Deuteronomy 7:3-4 King James Version 3 Neither shalt thou make marriages with them; thy daughter thou shalt not give unto his son, nor his daughter shalt thou take unto thy son. 4 For they will turn away thy son from following me, that they may serve other gods: so will the anger of the Lord be kindled against you, and destroy thee suddenly.

The first thing that happens after a mistake is the coverup. I had to sue a doctor to get my records from him, and stuff is suspiciously missing.

Hmmm. As a woman who has had fibroids removed laproscopically in my mid 40's with no issue, something in this case indeed sounds amiss. A healthy 30 something year old women who was cleared PRIOR for a routine procedure dies? Of a heart attack? Somebody better get a hold of those telemetry records that shows normal sinus rhythm prior to the procedure. Sounds like something is off in anesthesiology......

Could be a reason of anesthesia, either overdose or underdose
