When we need to keep our stadiums from flooding, we often surround them with ditches to redirect water flow, and put little foot path bridges over them. you can do this in vanilla with paths/roads to block the terrain brush from going too wild, and put a little set of flood control ditches around/near the high school

I think an exposed slope, like a scar on the earth, is beautiful? Of course not. I think it's realistic. At least, that's how it is here in Brazil. When large-scale earthworks are done for roads or construction, some slopes remain unfinished. Whether it’s to avoid encroaching on private property, reduce costs, or for other reasons, it’s common here. Leaving the slope exposed sacrifices beauty for realism. That’s it, my friend. But you're the one playing. We LOVE watching you play. If you want everything neat and perfect like a fairytale, go for it! I adore how your grids are so organic and resemble real cities. They’re not all straight and perfect like Barbie’s town... That’s just who you are and how you play. I’m fascinated by realism. When it comes to slopes, you prefer beauty, and that’s okay. Be happy because you bring us joy in your own way.

I vote for less smoothing. I think the side beside the church could be a retaining wall or even a rock face. Where you have placed the sports stadium I suspect it should be raised somewhat - so the soil dug from the high side fills in and raises the low side. then some more moderate smoothing could be applied. Loving your work.

13:07 Mining occurred in Morro Bay for over 80 years as Morro Rock was quarried with explosives. The height map you used for Morro Rock is its current size, which is only 2/3 the mass of its original size. Most of the height remains intact, with the majority of the mining occurring from the sides. This mining was particularly disruptive due to the fact it is a nesting site for the locally endangered peregrine falcon and a sacred site to the native Chumash people. At this time, direct access to Morro Rock is restricted; only the Chumash are allowed to climb the rock twice a year for a diving ceremony.

I think the hill by the church would require some type of erosion control. With the background of it being an old part of the city, the road would most likely have been widened at some point requiring them to cut into the hill and leaving that sharp drop-off. Possibly a retaining wall depending on the expense limits of the project. But some simple landscaping could also easily control the erosion and may have been requested by the church for aesthetic reasons.

We have a large park in our community that has multiple sports fields that serve a secondary function as flood drainage retention ponds. Stormwater Design Engineer here, all of the roads are curbed, catching the hill stormwater runoff. The track field would likely just have a couple of catchbasins and piped to the storm system in the curb line. Furthermore, the city would have planned for this knowing ponds aren't feasible, and a large regional basin would be created outside the city to serve as storage for all of the stormwater from the town.
@lukasr5867Күн бұрын
Would you really need an artificial basin when you already have the pacific ocean at the lowest point of your city? Shouldn't that be able to take up any stormwater?
@clumsyturtle1706Күн бұрын
@lukasr5867 The lake and ocean can definitely take on the stormwater. Some places avoid this practice because the water is generally polluted, and so there is usually a treatment plant or a regional basin that can settle out pollutants before it goes into bodies of water. This is especially important if there are wetlands or important biolife in an area. It all depends on local regulations really.

Locally to me, there are several gravel pits that are or have harvested old gravel banks along rivers. They do flood. The water is pumped into ponds, which can be decommissioned pits, to evaporate. When the pit is played out, sometimes it becomes a park pond, sometimes a wildlife refuge, sometimes they are filled in with demolished building materials.

Here in Nebraska, we put tons of aggregate facilities along the rivers. Once they're done in the area, you have a sand pit that they often sell lots on for high end housing. Went to Brisbane, Queensland for two weeks and I love bus stops being integrated into old buildings and buildings of importance, like hospitals. Bus routes have their own underground network and above ground they have their own lanes (except on highways). Another thing is trains, trams and busses all being in close proximity of each other and bus routes running to train and tram stations. Or all three in one spot.
