Civ 5 AI Only Timelapse: Secret Land

The tropical island in the center of the map can give a significant advantage to those who colonize it, but it is impossible to gain a foothold on it without huge investments and costs that may not pay off at all. The first turns are especially important on this map, those who will fail to put the second city will find themselves in an unenviable position without the opportunity to send a fleet to the central area, at the same time those who manage to establish new cities will have to follow a much larger territory and number of opponents. In the end, only leaders that will find a golden mean and the best way to survive among these tangled conditions will be able to fight for victory.
Also, thanks a lot to all my subscribers, 10k is a really huge number, and I never thought that so many people from different countries would share my little obsession. Your support is truly priceless.

Portugal never wins anything alone. I have never seen them survive longer than mid game. Impressive start, but the AI of portugal always stop focusing on millitary and is easily taken down due to overextending and lack of warfare units. Byzantinum is always strong in water maps, but they tend to be stronger earlier. South Korea was surprisingly close this game, but once again they always fucks it up somehow. Legit the worst AI of the entire Civ5.

Koreans just like Ethiopians tend to get very aggressive when they have nowhere to expand. As long as they have room for the future, they prioritize growth, but when land is sparse, they just go after anyone who's in the way

Portugal had every chance to play it big, lack of competent army made them fall. Oh and by the way the middle island was a key point of the map, but also makes your empire weaker due all the enemies from every side.

Wow! Hard to remember an episode where the largest empire at a certain point failed to win 3 separate times! Portugal, England and Korea all had opportunities to put the game away, but all of them eventually fell in succession together. Also, was that the modern warfare theme from cod that we heard?

short push by England depleted Portugal, Theodora took advantage and got Lisbon and Combria. Porto was too far for Korea to defend, Gao was two eras behind on tech, and it kinda snowballed from there. The real mystery is why Korea refuses to build a navy.

At 2:32 portugal had more units and was more advanced in tech than byzantine. Were they to attack now, Portugal would have taken over byzantine and (perhaps) the world. At this point you could have never predicted that byzantine is going to win at the end by analysing its position.

Portugal over-extended too far to the center, and thus was fighting every single nation. Byzantine played Portugal when they had moved most of their force to defend, thus leaving their capital undefended.

Has one simulation been done where the two sides of the map are separated by a continuous mountain range that prevents land units from going through? That way it would be interesting to see how they try to beat each other via air units and airlifts. Perhaps another version could be where there is only a narrow passage for ships on water or a passage between mountains that is only one hex wide. How would AIs deal with it?

England and Korea coming out of nowhere and sucker-punching the German and Portugese Empires was absolutely amazing to watch, had me laughing for a good minute. This was a fun game to watch! I loved how Byzantium quietly and slowly expanded in the East, gobbling up the remains of the once-great Portugese, while Korea and England fought to the death, weakening the outer colonies and leaving them vulernable to growing powers, like Byzantium and, for a time, Sweden (though the Swede's position in the map late-game was absolutely fantastic, just look at this 4:40 the Swedes are the great rift separating East and West lmao)

They had too many cities for the era. They were definitely unhappy and that probably undercut their production and commerce, which they tried to alleviate by skimping on their military. Not a great plan.
