You might also want to stress getting Wonders like the Great Wall. You have HUGE borders, your units get +15% combat bonus when within your own borders, and with the Great Wall enemy units will now be limited to usually one tile per turn, allowing you to easily pick them off. Your aggressive expansion can lead to a hostile AI that will try to attack you, you easily defeat their forces, and if played right they'll negotiate for peace by offering a city, and THEY are the ones hit by the Warmongering penalty. Win-win!

Ooooh yes - very good call! The Great Wall is certainly one of the better wonders for The Shoshone, isn’t it! Sometimes I shy away from making wonder recommendations in these videos, particularly the early game wonders. Only reason being that on higher difficulties it’s really tough to beat the AI to early wonders because of their start bonuses.

Yesss my favorite civ in the game. I always build 2 additional pathfinders unless I'm somehow on a small piece of land. Ruin order for me is usually this 1. Upgrade, 2. Culture, 3. population from size 2 to 3 as soon as city hits size 2, 4. Upgrade new pathfinder, 5 technology after pottery is finished (so you can get a 2nd tier tech) 6 population from 4 to size 5. 7.Upgrade last pathfinder. Having 3 comp bowmen early is huge . I don't like taking pop ruin at size 1 because you grow to size 2 so quickly anyway its kind of a waste. You want to upgrade first ruin so you can get as many comp bows as possible. They are absolutely sick early game with scout movement plus still retain ability to pick ruin rewards throughout the game. Also love the territory grab, so nice to not have to buy important tiles. Thanks for the video!

Wait, aren't you getting spearmen if you upgrade that early ? I thought you could only get archers once you have researched archery ?
@midwestapprentice1904 Жыл бұрын
@@Nr4747 nah they actually upgrade straight to comp bowmen you don’t even need archery
@michawozniak549211 ай бұрын
The proper way is pop, culture, tech/upgrade to comp bowman. The Comp Bowman has 7 meele strength, and if you get swarm by barbs it will be dead easier than pathfinder, especially on raging barbs setting. Maybe if you choose Honor it is better that way. I like to get at least 1 promotion on pathfinder to get higher defense and additional 5 HP healing. That way you can have a pretty strong comp bowman that can heal fast and is very resiliant.
@lordyhgm92667 ай бұрын
I would add that this is a good strategy, however just look at how many turns you have until city growth/tech as the benefit of an extra pop or tech is much greater if you're getting it 8 turns earlier than you otherwise would. You can still move around the map with your mouse while in the selection menu as well

I’m starting a Shoshone game tonight! I’ve played two whole games (England and Egypt) since starting to watch you Civ V videos. Such fun. Probably get a couple more under my belt at Emperor before I try moving back up to Deity. Ive won a few Deity victories before I switched to Civ VI a couple years ago, but never was really that good. Forgotten so much.

Thanks for reminding me to play Shoshone again! I've been on an Inca spree lately and have been absolutely shit out of luck with the ruins in every game I played, had to use much of the gold I saved through Great Andean Road to buy tiles I desperately needed. I love the Inca for their ability to snowball like crazy with terrace farms, but that takes a while to get set up. It'll be nice to not have a more predictable early game, and I can also save gold I'd otherwise probably invest in extra tiles. Don't know if I'm comfortable trying a Liberty playthrough because I ALWAYS take Tradition, but it might be worth a try. Especually since settlers will likely get delayed because the pathfinders take longer to produce than scouts.

I start in the ancient era and like to get 2 pathfinders scouting and upgrade 1 to Composite bowman in a ruins upgrade. Then they clear barbarians together for a while while I settle more cities behind them and build the great wall wonder. By then usually Shaka is trying to invade and he gets crushed, maybe loses his city too.

Good video for completely new players, but it actually contains a lot of mediocre advice if you really want to get good at civ 5 (e.g. picking liberty over tradition, not locking your tiles while growing cities, not explaining the tall vs wide arguments etc). The author of the channel is clearly still a novice so there is a lot of learn! Good luck
