One thing I still remember from Civ V, always try to go to war with Zulu on your side. Shaka is one of the most loyal friends in the game of you can get him to fight together.

City states giving units is one of the things I miss the most about 5. You can practically use it as your army generation if there's enough militaristic states onside.

Just a heads up, you don't need to spend so many turns walking your units to city states to gift them. You can click on the city state, click on "gift unit" and select the unit wherever it is, and it will arrive in 5 turns.

I completely forgot about that lovely cycle. Make friends with military city states, receive units, give units back to city states to make more friends. Turns out handing gifts back to whoever gave them to you isn't such a rude thing in Civ 5.

Rarely happens, but once I was in a proxy war and a military city state gifted me a GDR. I wasn't actually attacking anyone, but they were being attacked heavily.... so I gifted it back. Ended up taking half the enemy army by itself.

I actually much prefer the scenic leader backgrounds of civ 5 over th ones from 6. They're a lot more dynamic looking.

Civ V Privateers are awesome, compared to Civ VI Privateers, especially if you manage to get them to Destroyers, because of the extra promotions. The Sea Beggar from the Netherlands is even more busted, because if you have the infrastructure in place to give newly trained ships two promotions, Sea Beggars can start with Logistics, which gives them an extra attack
