I'm so nostalgic for this game. I remember watching Marbozir videos to learn how to get good at Civ 5. I will say that many of the changes they made to Civ 6 over the years are a lot less controversial when you play Civ 5 and Civ 6 back to back. I think people's nostalgia goggles prevent them from seeing this, and the fact that Civ 5 had all it's expansions when Civ 6 came only served to make Civ 5 look a lot better.

I miss this game. I put so many hours into Civ 5. I called it my time machine since I could easily sink hours into it without even noticing the time quickly flying by.

Ah, Civ 5. This was the first Civ game I ever played and it holds a very special place in my heart, even though I think it's far from the best in the series.

Post Brave New World I think it's my favorite in the series. At launch, I felt like Civ 4 was better, but Civ 5 really grew on me. I don't really care much for Civ 6, though it has grown on me too. There are some really nice ideas and systems in Civ 6, and I do generally enjoy it, but the district mini-game is kinda meh.

@@Blandge That's fair. 6 is my favorite but I like that all the games are pretty distinct and each pulls in different crowds. I actually don't know many people who regularly play all of the games, most people seem to stick with one.

@@skipperxiv9401 I actually didn't buy Civ 6 until ~6 months ago and never really watched many vids of it until about a year ago. Playing it really changed my mind. I don't love districts, but playing it still feels classically Civ, which is all I ever wanted from it. I also thing it's improved a lot since launch, and mods help a lot.

A surprise to see you playing Civ 5, but a very welcome one! While Ive spent so, SO many hours in Civ 5, the game feels much more unfair on deity than Civ 6 is. I can somewhat beat Deity on Civ 6 if i actually use my brain but in civ 5, ive never done it lol. It feels very miserable there.

I did have a domination victory as imortal with Venice a few days ago. The trick is to focus on gold and buy units/building cheap. Also keep trades, land and water, all over the map and try to keep them outside conflict zone. Get lots of money, get science till stealth bombers, begin to destroy everything, starting on oil/aluminum land. Venice is fun to play imo.

YES! The most serene Republic of Venice! Cheers from Venice Italy! There are quite a few leaders that Civ could introduce in the next (hopefully) Venice civilization: Pietro Orseolo, famous for the marriage with the sea (Festa della Sensa, 1000 year old tradition) who fought the pirates in the Adriatic sea around the year 1000 and there is Sebastiano Venier, Doge who fought the war against the Ottomans in Lepanto. These are the most famous with Enrico Dandolo but being the longest Republic in world history (1100 years) we have a lot of interesting ones!

I actually remember having more fun in civ 5 while working my way through the lower difficulties because a lot more builds are viable. Once you're at the deity level it definitely becomes more railroad.

I've played Civ since the original, but Civ 5 is the one I played the least. When it came out, my computer wasn't powerful enough to run it effectively so I just continued playing 4. Then when I got a new computer, it wasn't long before Civ 6 was released so 5 mostly passed me by.

I used to pledge protection to everyone. Those 5 points you passively get are worth it. Free 5 points? Why not? Never had many problems even when the AI attacked them. They would just keep saying: "Hey! I am attacking your puppet city state. Are you gonna do anything? you chicken?". It was just annoying, no biggie, you can attack or not. It was also nice to be notified when the AI initiated attacks on them, so I could decide if it was worth defending.

@@UrsaRyan I wonder which direction will they go with the graphics? If remember correctly Civ4 was more cartoonish like Civ6 and Civ5 was more realistic. I've played all of them to some extent, even Colonisation, Beyond Earth, Alpha Centauri. My guess that it might be not Civ7 but another game like Beyond Earth perhaps. They could also try making mobile or cross platform version 🤔🤔🤔

I understand I can invoke some hatred, but imo the interface and design of civ 5 are repulsive and in some way unintuitive. When I first rolled into civ 6, it was not through bloggers who showed how to play it, I just grabbed the opportunity to get it for free in epic store, launched the first game and grasped the mechanics intuitively in the process. Whereas when I tried to play civ 5, the picture was so dim and unwelcoming that I did not know what to do, what is responsible for what, and where does it all head to. Maybe I am just a single autistic person like that and no one else had troubles therelike.

I had the same experience as you. My friends and I got 6 for free on epic and within 1 game we all understood at least the basics of how to play. Obviously we were far from experts but we knew enough to have fun and win on lower difficulties. I've seen others play civ 5 too and it always looks so awkward i can never understand if some people just have nostalgia goggles or I'm missing something with the way to speak of 5 compared to 6.

More seriously, I was still really young when Civ 1-3 came out, but I was in my mid 20's when 5 arrived, and it was the first time I really felt comfortable stretching my strategic muscles. Spain was the first civ I went to a higher difficulty than King, and I was dominating every Spain game not matter what the difficulty I tried.
