Can we boot Sjin and keep Daltos for future games? I honestly feel like Sjin doesn't want to be there anymore. He said a single sentence in the first nine minutes until Duncan prompted a response out of him and the past few games it seems like he's just there to either fill space or troll.

Actually, Norway was at it's strongest during the reign of Håkon Håkonson, who lived about 150 years after Harald Hardrada. During his reign, Norway ruled Iceland, Greenland, parts of today's Sweden, and a lot of the islands in the Atlantic ocean. Today, we've got two tiny islands in the Antarctic ocean and some biathletes.

@luckycat6247 жыл бұрын
The Glorious Champion of all that is Good and Just sillier then "Before Christ" ? come on.
@jome22847 жыл бұрын
For the people out there wondering, there are two ways to refer to the division of our timeline, a scientific way and religious way. Science: BCE & CE = Before Common Era & Common Era Religion: BC & AD = Before Christ & Anno Domini (Year of Dominion, meaning the time when Jesus was born)
@valgrian7 жыл бұрын
Domini = genitive (that is, the possessive form) of "dominus," which is Latin for "lord." So more literally A.D. is "Year of [the/our] Lord." Also, I take philosophical issue with the idea that BCE and CE are non-religious, as they still use the same temporal point of reference as BC/AD (the life of Jesus). The choice for any one to use BCE/CE instead is purely semantic and has no substantial value. If society really wants a non-religiously-based delineation, it'll have to use something else, like maybe the industrial revolution or the invention of the printing press for example. Though those are probably too recent to provide a comfortable split, so maybe something like the division of Alexander the Great's empire? I dunno.
@joecarm53837 жыл бұрын
To be fair we would have to change so many things if we were to change what year it is and it really doesn't impact us enough to warrant it
@luckycat6247 жыл бұрын
Valgrian And there's also not much reason to base everything around a general sense of when Jesus was born. It's just a way to scientifically class a year without having to say "Before Christ" and sound like a fucking idiot. "oh the sling was popular about 2 hundred years before christ..."

There should be an Outlander unit, that's a cheap non-combat unit to send out for vision, have it so when they fortify they send 1/2 the benefit from their hex back to their hometown, and if the hex they fortify in gets absorbed by territory, they level up to a single use builder.

Interestingly enough Barbara DOES in fact come from Barbarian. The Greek name derives from βαρβαρος (barbaros) which means "foreign". It was probably the name they gave to a captured slave or something that caught on. Later once there became a Saint Barbara in early Christendom the name became much more common and now we use it today outside of Greece.

The word 'barbarian' comes from the Greek at first calling all foreign peoples "bar-bar" from how they sounded to them. It got more negative connotations during the wars with Persia. So no, they're not Visigoths, they're Persians :P
@TheAnthraxBiology7 жыл бұрын
It was the Greeks who said that ANY language that wasn't Greek sounded like "Barbarbarbarbar!" and that became barbarian. So barbarian actually meant anyone not Greek because they thought they were better than everyone. Eventually the words barbar came to refer to Northern Africa and those people are said to be of Berber culture.

The word "germany", if I recall correctly, comes from the Roman word for "barbarian". Thus the word itself is based on an ancient racist term. It also explains why the English, who drew a lot from the Romance family groups, use that word rather than the native words that most everyone else does.

Have none of them heard that a lot of people know it as Before Christ and After Death. I think that by Before Christ it might mean before he died, but I also know that most Biblical historians think that it is about 20 years off or something of when he actually died.
@andrewthegreat12437 жыл бұрын
bingo5387 if you use the Before Christ and After Death, you have 33 years that cannot go in either category. Anno Domini makes more sense.

When I was younger I knew it as Before Christ and After Death, yes there are those 33ish unaccounted years. But that is why I only used them as a general guideline. I didn't stick to this Before Christ/After Death stuff. It was just useful to try and sort dates out in my head and to get a general idea of the setting.
