In this game of Civ 6, we’re taking on a random civ and shuffle map in an attempt to create a Deity ++ masterclass Civilization VI game.
I’ll be taking my time to go through all the strategy and thought process I have when taking on a random game on the hardest mode (plus 2!) I regularly play on, to show you how to improvise, to show you some strategies, and to talk through the chaos of my brain when playing civ.
Welcome to Deity ++ - a mode 2 harder than deity. If you can play this mode, you’ll be fine on Deity!
Find the full playlist here: • Random Civ, Random Map...
All maps, mods and tech support on getting these games to work are available on my discord, so swing by! If you want to help plan this series, consider becoming a channel supporter using the links below.

"I'm also moving my slingers... so that barbarians won't spawn" Excellent! First time I see you do it and it's also very important trick that civ players must learn. ... And then you completely bungled it up and barbarians spawned in the north east corner... great...

viewer accessibility suggestion: for future uploads, please consider adding a link to the series playlist in the video description. i've been going through some of your older videos or starting a new series based on algorithm recommendations, and it's surprisingly difficult to hunt down the playlist so i can reliably auto-play to the next video. (and it's basically impossible to search for the right playlist on the mobile app.) i know it's a little extra work, but for me at least, ease of access to the playlist makes a huge difference in how much of your videos i watch.

One of the points nobody talks about is how much easier it is to play with a small or huge number of other civs compared to 10-12. For instance: 4 civs = 3 religions; 6 civs = 4 religions; 8 civs = 5 religions, 10 civs = 6 religions... This is a mathematical progression of ratios that means a greater percent of civs miss out. Similarly all victory conditions are easier - for example, if you rush your religion with only 4 civs and then build just one missionary, chances are you will be able to snuff out one religion as soon as it is founded, so you only have to conquer two religions. As far as I can see, a Large * 2 map with 10 civs is pretty much apex challenge because, under deity they will spread to make maximum use of space. With a huge number of civs squashed into a map, none can really establish their deity advantage and thus, with the inbuilt terribleness of AI combat skills, the first Civ you conquer will make you unstoppable.
@UrsaRyan
@UrsaRyan Жыл бұрын
All these things are very true - saying that, I actually think Huge maps are easier. You get more space to settle and more (landmass / civs), more people to trade with for gold (one of the main ways the AI feeds you power), more luxuries to buy for more yields, and most importantly snowballing on large maps is insane as a strat. I'd say both are equal in difficulty but the skill set is very different. But as I say, your observations are very on point with how small maps work. I like to change it up for a very different feeling game! Dual maps are different again!

I think the obvious settle here was the Cattle. It allows you to work 2-2-1 at the begining (and you are short on Production!), and improves the Harbour. You don't want to build Great Zimbabwe here, because it is a Coastal and Commercial Hub is a waste of district limit.

I'm already not someone who tends to click away at the end of vids just because it's usually more effort to click skip when an outro starts than it is to just wait the 45 seconds or whatever but your channel supporters have given you a great gift in their crazy names that make me excited to hear the list XD anyway, that aside, I really like this concept and as someone who's been doing fine on Immortal but struggling to do deity, I'll be taking notes for sure. like I didn't know that the horses being nearby was what gave the barbs their horsies! nor had I thought about just selling cities I might be losing anyway. I noticed the barbs stopped spawning reinforcements before you actually took out the city, is there a limited amount they do or is it renewed by scouts making it back to them or something? also while I know you like to do the "check the discord for the mods", for this series it might have been worth mentioning your UI mods since some players might not know them. for example, early into watching Civ content, I know I got confused about where the quick deals was because I didn't even realize there were mods for the game. anyway, thanks again for this, it's gonna be grand!

Settling on the Cattle would have been better imo, despite the culture bomb potential. You could still build Great Zimbabwe because the cattle would be preserved underneath the city and you would have had an extra production potential and a permanent boost to growth because of the 3-1 city base.
@UrsaRyan
@UrsaRyan Жыл бұрын
That's a very fair point - I would have had far less land to work though. Auckland would have saved me but a huge capital and not much land to district or wonder can often be an issue. I'd always rather have an inland capital as my high pop city
@joelpierce1453
@joelpierce1453 Жыл бұрын
@@UrsaRyan well most of the marsh tiles would still be in the second ring and beyond that is just desert anyway, so I think the difference in growth potential would be pretty small.

something i never understood, and it doesnt say in the wikipage ingame either, what is the purpose of a culture bomb and what does it do?
@UrsaRyan
@UrsaRyan Жыл бұрын
Once you finish a district with a culture bomb - all surrounding tiles are moved to your city, as long as they are within 3 of your city (i.e. workable). Esentially you grab all the tiles around districts. Most culture bombs can steal land (at the cost of a diplo penalty with the AI if you steal from them) but some (like Gaul's mine bomb and preserve bombs) only claim neutral land

I once sold a city to the AI for gold and eventually won it back through loyalty pressure. There was a mountain range between our civilisations, so I hadn't met them until founding the city and only then did I find out just how horrendous the loyalty pressure from population was (two or three 7-10 pop cities, yikes!). I sold the city the turn before it rebelled, and subsequently settled around it and got to work boosting my population. It also meant that the AI in question really, really liked me, so that was a nice bonus.
