kurojima Fact is, Ben was Duncan's buffer and the 4v1 crippled and hampered Lewis long enough for Duncan to get back into the lead. Had Lewis been Duncan's neighbor or had Lewis not gotten attacked via sea, he could've easily steamrolled Ben in due time and probably set up his staging grounds against Duncan way earlier with Pyrion assisting him probably.

Giving Ben armies to keep Lewis, Ben and Pyrion busy, attacking Lewis with warships, buying up all the city states he could, nuking the crap out of Lewis, and then conquering space... Solid across the board. One of the best and funniest matches of Civ since the Datlof war.

You know what they should do? Make an anonymous game. Everyone has a name that nobody else recognizes, and you can't reveal who you are until the end. That should remove the "Lewis will win if we all don't team up on him", so that people focus on the actual threat and don't let someone else win just so that Lewis wouldn't win. They could make it a podcast type of game, since you can't reveal a lot about yourself.

In my mind, unless it's diplomatic victory, whoever wins, deserves to win. That's just how things go. Duncan played the smart game, and if people hadn't attacked Lewis he would have won because he's just better. That's how it goes every game because it HAS to go like that every game or Lewis wins. That or the players actually learn how to play but they won't do that because they play for fun, not to win. So if Lewis had won, then Lewis deserves. If Pyrion had won, then he deserved it, and so on. The only exception is diplomatic victory in my mind. That's just a cheap and stupid victory condition . Why play a whole game if others can just vote for someone out of spite and rob a person from victory? That's why I like their house rule of only voting for themselves. Then it does feel deserved if they manage to get enough votes.

i dont really play civ but how do 3 people (ben,rhythian,sjin) fail to see that the top player has been practically untouched the whole game and yet they choose to fight lewis? (who was 2nd at best after ep7) instead of duncan?? duncan barely did anything except afew naval attacks whilst his allies fought lewis with boots on the ground. seriously how do people miss this?it seems VERY obvious yet they dont even discuss how duncan is leading by a landslide after the 4v1 with lewis. all it took was for someone to say "omg lewis is leading so far in tourism" a bunch of times for people to start contemplating fighting him. i may be missing some imporant game mechanic or strategy, but please if i am correct me before i lose faith in the yogscast

Voting for someone is actively helping them win. Letting someone turtle is passively helping them. If someone takes all the capitals and gives them to another that's active. If one's capital is taken it is passive. If they actually try to help one win, then it's forbidden. Not acting against one is allowed otherwise it would be war as soon as you met someone.

YoXeV Mostly in the early game, but still into mid and late, there was lots of "you're a toady!" "he's a toady!" "watch out for Lewis!" "no watch out for Duncans turtling!" "Are you just going to let them do that." ect they are all trying to mislead and provoke each other. Duncan seems to do it quite well, Lewis used to be able to manipulate the rest but they became wise to it. Obviously it's all fun and games and they are all friends, it's what I do when I'm playing anyway.

So Lewis they try to beat into submission pretty much all game while Duncan they leave alone and is allowed to focus on turtling and his science production and never do they realize how big of a threat he is becoming. *No one* who has not been allowed to do that has ever launched a spaceship before even the 50's...probably. Who made Ben's war against Lewis possible so that everyone would stay distracted on that half of the continent? Duncan. Whose fleet blasted Lewis' cities? Duncan's. Who nuked Lewis' armies and cities off the map? Duncan. Who had the foresight to buy up all the city-states? Duncan. This is a very well-deserved victory.

I would agree actually. While this game was the product of the other player's oversight, Duncan did play better than normal and did less to push the others than typical. I normally dislike this type of win from other players but in this game I did not mind it. Less of Duncan directing the game and more just the others not getting the concept that they are feeding the #2 player.

An outdated sense of honour, it's a game. How many yogcast civ games have you seen that play without underhanded tactics? I don't think there has been one. The objective is to win the game, and there can only be one winner. Any "dirty" tactics are legitimate, sending a smaller navy is a great tactic, I'm puzzled why would you send a bigger navy than necessary? Can you not see through Duncan's perspective that would be counter-intuitive?

The real problem here is the game itself. Its so easy to snowball in this game if you war left alone or if no one stops your conquest. It was either everyone died to Lewis attacked them (he went honor btw) or lose to Duncan's science.

Soaring Hawk a good mechanic would be if there are wars other where in the world you must get involved or you get unhappiness, and unhappiness should lower production, lower money, lower food, have a lot more barbarians show up, and units would auto dispand until you get involved in the war

Duncan played the smart game. Lots of banter, lots of misdirection, proxy wars. Sure he turtled, but he got others to fight for him by giving troops. He managed to keep those that buffered him from the other aggressive players on his side. He used cunning rather than brute force.

"If Lewis had been in x position, if Duncan had been in y position" if if if if if If Sjin had an isolated capital separated from the big players by mountains in the corner of the map, he could win- as he did, back in No Quitters. If Duncan got no Uranium in his territory, he could get blasted back into irrelevancy by those who do, as he did back in the 1-city challenge. Positioning in relation to resources and other players is the biggest decider in yogscast civ games. Sure, Lewis and Parv and Duncan are all pretty good, but starting in the wrong place is what gets you killed or opens up a road to victory.

I think you have to recognise that Duncan's military support for Ben and his build up of a powerful military (including brilliant use of nukes) meant that he was actually reasnably good at war for once which makes me feel this win was much more deserved than many people give him credit for.

I think what a lot of people forget is that Multiplayer YogCiv is as much a game of bluff as it is a game of tactics. When this is considered, Duncan played a masterful game. He played on the whole "Lewis is winning!!1!11!" thing, coaxing Ben and Rhythian into weakening Big Lew, while helping Ben directly when he needed to. All the while he's solidifying his own cities and working on his science like a mad professor. And of course, there was THAT nuke. Never have I seen a Civ nuke used so well. It completely swung the momentum in his favour, just when he looked weakest. Just like kneeing Lewis in the balls while Lew-Lew is about to dish out the killer uppercut. I really enjoyed this series. Highlight of this episode was Sjin trying to take Bacon with a ranged unit that's out of moves. Classic.

Lewis losing in Civ 5 feels as satisfying as when he wins. Although to be fair Duncan was practically handed the victory due to the sacrifices of not 1, not 2 but 3 of his allies more so than through any single-handed effort on his part. At least the surprise nukes were funny.

I don't mind Duncan in other stuff but in Civ he is an insufferable prick. Lewis winning when its 2vs1, 3vs1 shows the difference in skill. Duncan can only win by either supporting others wars or nukes. You say Lewis boring... I put it to you Duncan is not much better. I dread Duncan playing HoI4 with Sips, Lewis and Pyrion :(.

Just as Rythian played poorly, so did Pyrion. You could see who was going to win 5 episodes ago and it was largely due to the actions of Pyrion himself (and lack of Sjin's ability).

It's nice that everyone finally realises the teeny-tiny turn timer is actually really fucking stupid for wartime. During the last game. GG Duncan, you succesfully managed to pin everyone on Lewis again, taking the Science win :) Handled wars really well: Don't Do It.
