I burst out laughing at how insanely bad Tom's start location is and did so again when the barb horsemen carpet arrived. Stop, stop, he's already dead... Pyrion's was just depressing since he only needed to move a hex to the left for it to be decent, not to mention 1 hex left being better for the settling of future cities with aqueduct access to those mountains east of his start with no fresh water.

Tom gimped himself by building a Settler before scouting anything at all, then settling outside the range of any fresh water for Aqueducts. It was a bad start, but he only made it worse.

What Petra in Civ VI does is, in the city you build the Petra in, all desert tiles gain 2 food, 2 gold, and 1 production. This doesn't apply to floodplains, but if you build the petra in a half decent desert city that can make the Petra, that city is well established enough to go through the game. This is especially good with cities with desert hills and/or a large quantitiy of desert tiles. The issue is that it's a classical era wonder, and Tom's only source of production is the 2 forests (once he gets machinery, assuming the petra is still able to be built in the medieval era), the hill with the sheep on it, and the German Hansa. The only chance that city has is if he fully commits to building the Petra, and that's assuming no one else does. Given the track record some of these guys have for building useless wonders for no reason however...

The comments are more poisoned than usual thanks to the split Civ fanbase... I like both 5 and 6. And considering how terrible 5 was at launch and how much more time 5 has had to develop than 6, i think that's an acceptable launch. People seriusly are overreacting to 6... Yeah. Sure. People will think that 5 or 4 are better. But for gods sake, i think people who use the word "garbage" and "unplayable" haven't played a truly horrible game ever. The only thing close to unplayable in Civ 6 is the AI. The rest works good, fine or decently. It's strange really... especially after a game like Beyond Earth, wouldn't the Civ fanbase have learned what these words actually mean?

J is a whole lot different sound in Polish, and I think that closest to correct sound is if you were trying to say "yeah" but without "eah". Welp, just throwing it out there! 7:11 Duncan just said this weirdly. In Civ 5, from what I've seen, you can spend any amount of movement to move 1, so you can move 1/2, and then spend 1 to get into the forest, which would normally cost 2, but when you're in the forest already, you can move 1 because it just uses both points. (Unsure, but I think roads leaving units with decimal movement points can also be used to move through forests.

I'm more than willing to learn but as far as I currently understand it war weariness is based on an additional amount added every time your unit attacks or is attacked and is reduced by a fixed amount every time no attack is made. Which means that if you are in a slow war that you didn't start, and you successfully defend, push back, take the attacking cites and win, you're screwed for a very good number of turns. And then you've just got to pray you don't get attacked again as the second war accumulates faster. If I'm missing something, have something wrong, or can avoid this, I'm all ears!

wappe123 The issue is that it's a bit over the top in term of punishment for war - if you're stuck defending against someone who make peace it completely screws you. Plus the fact that no one in this group is going to bother to learn

The more cities you have, the more expensive everything is, including Districts. It's CIV 6's way of trying to stop players just spamming infinite cities everywhere.

Duncan not reassigning his citizens in Krakow will set him behind. If he loses, this will be one reason why. Also, if he ends up doing well, it will be in spite of this bad start. As an aside - why does Civ 6 prioritize gold so much? Early game, low population it should at least prioritize growth by default.
