Great comparison! I've owned both cars and you really can't go wrong with either. The Hyundai's driving dynamics are fantastic and it has the best sounding stock exhaust on any 4 cyl. The interior is just so cheap in comparison and the resale is rough. It ultimately becomes the more expensive of the two out-of-pocket with resale factored in. The CTR is a more enjoyable and usable daily for me. Seats are way more comfortable and you can't beat the practicality of the hatch. You feel like you're overall getting what you pay for with both and neither are a bad choice
@Symphoniics2 күн бұрын
Only thing I’ll disagree on is the “ultimately more expensive” part regarding the N. Most resources that crunch the data for longterm ownership costs indicate the Type R to be more expensive.
@vjd2222 күн бұрын
@Symphoniics nah. Every service has been less expensive than it was in the Elantra. But I'm more referencing the big hit on resale value you take with Hyundai. Type Rs practically increase their value over time
@Symphoniics2 күн бұрын
@@vjd222 You can Google it man. Elantra N has cheaper longterm ownership costs. It is what it is. Plus, resale value should not be a major factor when buying a car. One accident and that resale value goes down, maybe the car gets totaled and insurance lowballs, etc. Smarter to buy the EN and put the difference in the stock market and you’ll get way better returns.
@vjd2222 күн бұрын
@@Symphoniics Why would I Google something if I have owned and paid for both? I know from my own actual experience lol. My last oil change that I paid for through Hyundai was $120. My last oil change in the Type R through Honda was $73. Nobody said resale was a major factor either, but on AVERAGE the EN takes a huge loss financially. In 2 years you've already lost the price difference between the two. Then you're out all that money you could be investing in the stock market when you buy your next car. But also, unless you're paying for the car in full you aren't losing out on that 10k in one chunk either, so that argument falls pretty flat. I've done well with my investing, but I also know how easy it is to lose in that game as well.
@Symphoniics2 күн бұрын
@@vjd222 Lmao the EN gets free/complimentary oil changes so idk why you were paying for yours. If you own either car for 10 years, the upfront savings of the EN will have time to mature in the stock market and the depreciation will have flattened out. I put $12k down on my EN but I would’ve had to put more down on the CTR to get the payment I wanted. So yeah… The savings still matter if you finance. Most people will put some kind of down payment. Plus, loans are typically 5-7 years which is still less than 10. So no, that argument does not fall flat. If you put that money into VTI (tracks the whole US stock market), you’ll be pretty safe. Plus, stock market crashes are only temporary unlike car depreciation. You might have to wait 25 years for the Type R to appreciate again but that’s just irrelevant for this conversation.

So what I got from this is, buy the FK8 2020 or 2021. No rear brake vectoring. Faster than the FL5. Integrated infotainment. Absolutely perfectly damped suspension before it got too stiff on the FL5. Comes with 245’s for some extra rear end happiness but can also fit 265’s all around. Which still has lots of lift off oversteer when driving it faster enough Mr dynamic driving guy. And even if you’re not as big on the over styling of the FK8 it still looks WAY BETTER than the Elantra N.
@ROVA00Сағат бұрын
The fk8 is slightly faster acceleration due to the gearing. The fl5 is faster on top end. The biggest thing about the FL5 over the FK8 is the individual mode. This alone is an entire reason to get the FL5. You can have the engine in R+ mode while still having the suspension in comfort. Plus, you can do what I did and swap the adaptive suspension module for the one in the Type S and have even softer ride. Now my car has amazing ride quality while still having the engine and steering in R+ mode. The FL5 is better than the Fk8 in almost every way except maybe if you like the looks of it better. I personally think the Fl5 looks 10x better so for me there is nothing in the FK8 that is better .

@@davothegreat9990 Every comparison has basically said it was, since it's won every single one. And as an owner of both, I can say that it absolutely is. Unless your only measurement of a cars value are acceleration and track times. The EN is the basic Elantra body with different parts painted to differentiate them. The CTR has a completely different body than the civic aside from the roof and driver doors. Brembo's, way higher quality build/materials, way more advanced suspension, and interior, wider wheels and tires, more power, legendary reliability of the K20, resale value, adaptive cruise control, etc. If Hyundai just did these things to the Elantra you would be paying close to, if not the same price. @vjd2222 күн бұрын
@davothegreat9990 no.. it doesn't. Does the EN have adaptive cruise control and anti stall tech? Def doesn't have nearly the advanced suspension as the CTR either. The drive mode customizations are exactly the same, but the difference from Comfort to +R is way more dramatic than comfort to N. You literally think that an exhaust sound and a physical handbrake determine the value of a car. I'm dying. Does the EN have a wide body kit? Brembos? No. Nor does the quality of any other part on the EN match up to the civic's. Funny that you called someone a honda fan boy when you're just as delusional 🤣
