That’s exactly how it was for me when I got mine, even the commute to work is fun. Still get that feeling every time I start it up too, it’s a great car. Thanks for watching, and enjoy your Type R!

Nice job on the review. Your brakes have lasted much longer than mine. I had to replace the front rotors after about 28K, and pads / resurfaced rotors on the rear at the same time. Other than that your experience is very similar to mine, and 100% agree with your advice to move to 18 inch wheels. The change provided a huge improvement in ride quality and the wheels will pay for themselves just based on 1) the tires being less expensive and 2) being able to run all season tires (first set lasted about 25K miles vs. 9K for the stock tires). I went with forged wheels and the weight savings relative to the stock wheels led to a (surprisingly) noticeable improvement in performance. The car looks better with the (RSR) aftermarket wheels as well. I saw the comment below about AWD vs. FWD and having owned two Subaru Imprezas in the past (STi and base WRX), there are definitely pros & cons of the two drivetrain approaches. Yes, the FWD Civic gives up some off the line performance vs. an AWD system, but in return you get less drivetrain loss, a lighter, more nimble car and better gas mileage. I really don't miss having AWD, particularly living in an area where it doesn't snow. As an overall package, the FK8 is tough to beat. From a driver involvement perspective, it's terrific: steering feel, transmission, engine response, braking, handling balance, etc...are all top notch (and quite a bit better than what my Subies offered). Regardless of price, the FK8 is the best car I've ever owned and I look forward to driving it whenever I hop in.

Thanks for the comment and your insights. It really is the best car I’ve ever owned without a doubt. Your point about the wheels is spot on, I actually bent one of my rims and had to replace it. Cost about half of a stock rim. Not to mention the all season tires are half the cost of the summer ones. In terms of acceleration, it’s noticeably quicker with the smaller wheels too.

Great video review! I recently purchased a used 2018 Type R with 44k miles on it. Loving it so far and happy to hear the brakes don't wear out too fast. Other than tires I was assuming the brakes would be the most expensive upkeep on this vehicle. What mud flaps do you use?
@MadMagyar13
@MadMagyar13 2 жыл бұрын
Rally Armor mudflaps (pretty sure that’s how it’s spelled). In terms of tires, it’ll cost you about $1,600ish to replace the 20’s. You can cut that in half by downsizing to 18’s and you won’t lose a lot of performance, in everyday driving at least

Wheels - R&T magazine had a tech article, and noted that they found no 18" wheels with the correct (60) offset. Honda worked hard to make the suspension work to eliminate torque steer, and this requires the correct offset. The Tire Rack and Discount Tire have none. You can find 19" wheels from prior gen Type R, which were $500 each, plus shipping, from England. SO - - any torque steer on yours with 18"? and what is the offset? Have you noticed any chunking from the front suspension (maybe the LSD?) in tight turns, when cold, in weather temps under about 45 degrees F?
@MadMagyar13
@MadMagyar13 2 жыл бұрын
Haven’t gotten that scientific with it but yes I do notice a little torque steer with the 18” rims. Having said that, as stated in my review you basically cannot daily drive an FK8 Type R without going down to 18-19” rims. Unless of course you’re willing to spend $430/tire every 12K miles

Have you experienced the second gear grind/lockout?
@MadMagyar13
@MadMagyar13 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, completely forgot to cover that in the video. It happens when coming off the line hard, not often but it does happen. Mostly it’ll occur when you’re shifting too fast from 1st to 2nd, even during “normal” driving. 1st gear lockout is the only one I’ve noticed, it’s almost impossible to get it in gear sometimes unless you’re at a dead stop.

@@MadMagyar13 change your gearbox oil mate, to a heavier one. Every 30-40k max. No more gear crunch. The Fk8 have somewhat weak synchros, so changing the gear oil is the first line to increase reliability

@@MadMagyar13 Yup like the mantis-man says try Motul Gear 300 75-90 or LiquiMoly has a lighter 70-80 that I want to try. The Motul slows your shift about 1 millisecond but it protects and eliminates grinds.
