Honda Civic Type R Sport Line road review | The last UK Type R

Honda’s Civic Type R has been built in the UK and only in the UK for over two decades. Even the cars sold in Japan were shipped over from Swindon. But, after the latest FK8 Type R, the factory will close and production will move to Japan, with no more Civics or Hondas of any kind built in Swindon.
The final version of the Civic Type R to be launched before the closure is the new Sport Line, meant to be a more subtle, less flashy, version. Think something similar to the Porsche 911 GT3 Touring. With 320PS and 400Nm its still potent and the changes are, at most, minor. There’s still a rear wing, it’s just not massive, and there’s still three exhausts and a pretty big bodykit. It has slightly smaller, 19-inch wheels and that’s pretty much it.
So does it make sense? To find out we took the Honda Civic Type R Sport Line to the original test route where all Civics have been road tested in the UK to find out if it’s worth £35,400 - a grand more than the standard car.

I would take this over the regular Type R just for the black interior. I don't care what the exterior looks like, but the red interior legit put strain on my eyes.

I've owned my 1999 Integra Type R for 23 years and the red seats haven't hurt my eyes - not yet! Perhaps your eyes are sore from tears you cried from not ever owning one....LOL!

I had the FK2 black edition first thing I did was put the Michelin pilot sport 4s tyres on made a lot of difference

Ahh the FD2.....my dream CTR. But I got a long wait till it 25 years old and eligible for import. I do love an NA Honda engine hitting v-tech and spinning to 8,500rpm. Brings a tear to my 🥲

3:08 it's a bit disingenuous to state that the torque of this car is 400 Nm, in fact this is peak torque on the curve. Actual torque is somewhat lower at 295 Nm.

I am a Honda fan, but I would not swap my 1999 Integra Type R for this car - 320,000 Kms and still going strong! It look as if the Civic's been put together with cheaper parts. It's performance is below that of many of the new hot hatches, 5.8 secs 0 - 100 isn't that 'hot'. I'm hoping for a new all-wheel drive Integra, otherwise I may opt for the GR Yaris
