I think people forget (or likely are too young to realize) that this is the exact text and music from the opening of the original Civilization. Of course there was no speech, and the music was 8-bit digital. Such wonderful memories. Civ IV is almost old enough to trigger the nostaliga feelings now.

Been playing Civilization since the first one, even CivNet and all the expansions and always read through all the Civilopedia entries, it's what birthed my fascination with History. And as a long time Star Trek fan, hearing the venerable Mr. Nimoy narrate the original opening is just so inspiring for what the future might hold for humanity. @supeerme The theme sounds the same but instead of it being played by a PC Squeaker or an Amiga Midi synthesizer it sounds like it is a recording from an orchestra that played it. My hat goes off to this intro the best of the 5 Civs in my opinion. Wheras I didn't like Civ 5 much, crashed loads, the characters don't move (worse than Civ 1 IMO) and why can't I stack units anymore? Just out of interest I think they skipped over the bit between fire and meteors and the primordial soup.
