"The position of Prussia in Germany will not be determined by its liberalism but by its power ... Prussia must concentrate its strength and hold it for the favorable moment, which has already come and gone several times. Since the treaties of Vienna, our frontiers have been ill-designed for a healthy body politic. Not through speeches and majority decisions will the great questions of the day be decided - that was the great mistake of 1848 and 1849 - but by iron and blood." - German Chancellor Otto von Bismarck at the conclusion of a speech he gave in 1862 about the unification of the German territories (The famous "Blood and Iron" speech)
@Exodon202010 жыл бұрын
ChivKnight I'm afraid this still counts for our time. I use to compare the EU to the German Confederation of the 1860's: A bunch of small nations rather arguing with each other than standing united against outer threats.

MrRammsteinKicksAss I don't think germany would be in a bad spot diplomatixally if another incident happened.They are a important pilar for NATO's economy.Even the US is having a bad time because of its debts.The other european powers would not risk declaring war on each other or in Germany.
@Exodon20209 жыл бұрын
Luan Andres I didn't mean war. Do you know the situation of Germany in the 1860s? The people called for unification yet the rulers were uncertain how to achieve it. Some prefered the inclusion of Austria which was opposed by the Prussians who wanted to dominate the new country which was impossible with the Austrians on board. In the end there was a war Prussia easily won and the question was decided... Hope Europe doesn't need that or another Iron Chancellor to get on it's feet. Bismarck: "You don't want to? Fine." - sends 28 Warriors and 17 Archers to your capital at turn 23
@aggroknight42596 жыл бұрын
Stryfe564 Any early-game military in Civ V can be a joke without siege units. Heres why: I had a game once where Bismarck did that to me 3 times in a row. I was on good terms with him, when suddenly he'd declare war on me. He would then send mostly what you described: A swarm of warriors, archers, and maybe other ancient/classical era units after my frontier cities. I had a decent military, and would use it (and my cities) to pick them off one-by-one. Everytime I did this and his units got within range of my cities, they'd run away, and later come back, which would repeat until I decimated his military. Eventually he offered me peace, which I accepted out of both forgiveness and intolerance. War with him was more of a nuisance than a threat. And then after some several hundred in-game years he'd do it again! After the third or fourth time, I was like "I'm sick of your shit Bismarck!", and conquered his entire Civ. I think I used 3 artillery units and a great general, although that could've been a different game.
@sill58766 жыл бұрын
I love playing Bismarck with his Furor Teutonicus on modes with Raging Barbarians. You take Honor policy and basically farm gold and culture from peasants. It can be usually done with 3-4 archers. Becomes absolutely OP at some point.
@EadmundIsenHealf11 жыл бұрын
To the people saying "but Hitler was Austrian", with the same logic Bismarck was Prussian. Both were from a formerly independent ethnically German population which became a part of the German homeland under their leadership. Being considered "German" used to be about more than just being born within "Germany".
@ubermcwinsauce128610 жыл бұрын

It doesn't matter where he was from. He fought for Germany. He would erase Austria from the map if it were for the well-being of his German Aryan race. Similarly, Alexander the Great fought for Hellas and spread Hellenism. His origins are now wanted by many but they will always be Hellenic because of his actions and the language he spoke.
@taxevasion473610 жыл бұрын
With that same logic alexander the great is macedonian and george washington is british
@Uroboro_Djinn10 жыл бұрын
Wither Warlock The only thing that matters is which country they fight for. Most leaders today have origins from all around the globe but they run only ONE country. Not all of them. Just like Alexander fought for Hellenism and Washington defended American independence, so did Bismarck fight for what he believed Germany could be, and he made his visions true. Now Germany is one of the strongest European countries, being affiliated with the nazis is illegal and people finally have equal opportunities in their lives instead of walls to seperate them. There are museums and cultural events in a country that nobody believed could stand back on its feet again as a strong and PROUD country. It takes a true leader to turn such a horrible and catastrophic situation around. It takes a leader that loves his country and his beloved country was Germany...
@ScottishCCRfan8 жыл бұрын
To me, this is the war theme of the General Staff. This is the theme for meticulously planned warfare on a mass scale. I can see Moltke himself knowingly nod as he overlooks a map with troop movements and timetables laid out to the minute, he knows once the wheels are in motion nothing than stop the Prussian advance....

Eduardo González American cars for the most part, are literally engineered to fail within a certain time period such that the American car manufacturers can make more money off of the people who need another car after their American one has broken down. Those smart and or knowledgeable and or observant enough would switch to car manufacturers of other nations, preferably researching about them prior to purchase in order to prevent an unnecessary loss in money due to deliberate poor engineering.

If I'm ever playing as France and Bismarck spawns next door I always make a point of having a city called Sedan near the border. Any war will be won or lost there...... Usually lost.

Bismarck hits hard and without mercy. if you're in a game and you share borders, keep your military strong and close.

That was a Holy Roman empire campaign, and neither sides consisted of a major power. This was during the 1200s, so not only was neither Germany nor Russia fully realized, and foreigners would also fight (Frenchmen, Englishmen, Scotsmen, Germans, Russians, Russo-Mongols, etc.)
