I once pissed him off enough to the point he declared war on me. I was playing as the Celts and went with Order. He chose Freedom. I then proposed to the World Congress to embargo Indonesia (his buddy, who was at war with my buddy Russia). He didn't like that very much. The Pracinhas nearly conquered Dublin that day. Then the war ended in a draw, and we became quick buddies after that, for some reason.

He was fine, in all honesty. We gotta understand that Pedro's qualities were usually limited to his private life. Was he a smart and thoughtful guy? Yes. Does it meam his goverment was really good? Pedro II was too much of a "nice guy" and lacked the resolve to face the oligarchies. Thanks to that the country was unusually stable, yes. But it also ment that matters like slavery and land possession took ages to be resolved.

I don't know if it was intentional, but Brazil's whole theme in BNW is "Behind the scenes world domination." Their preferred tactic is to use tourism to slowly but surely subvert your people to thinking how they want, spreading their ideology. The music here really helps re-enforce that too, with the bond villain like world domination kind of vibe going through it. Add to the fact that the Brazilian unique unit is a soldier that generates progress towards a golden age every time it kills, and yeah, you probably HAVE just played into his hands. All that conflict is just going to fuel his golden age, which will boost his tourism output, which will make it all the easier to make your citizens uncontent and start spawning "rebels"

DrKhallos And you know what? that isn't a joke, indeed they are the cultural, military and diplomatic spearpoint of Southamerica in real life. They spread their culture quickly with their turism output (everybody knows or had heard about Rio de Janeiro along other cities as Salvador de Bahia) with the beaches they have and the Carnival of Rio and a terrific and feared soccer team, the "penta" champions. Today, September 2nd of 2018, the Quinta da Boa Vista palace, the official residence of the brazilian royal family, founded in 1818, was consumed by fire, destroying aprox. 20 million artifacts of its museum, including the oldest human skull of the Americas, two egyptian mummies brought to Rio by Pedro II himself, other egyptian, greek and etruscan archeological pieces; fossils, including the biggest dinosaur ever found in South America and one of the greatest pterosaur collections in the world, biological samples of extinct species of plants and insects; the palace's library, other countless and priceless items, and two centuries of work and dedication by lifetimes of brazilian and foreign researchers. It was everything good between me (Pocatello) and Pedro 'til endgame. Have no idea how and why, but he was top score the whole game. Then suddenly Bismarck declared war on him and started to apeshit his army and cities. Pedro was my best commercial partner, so I spammed some Comanches and artillery and liberated his cities (they had only 4-5) and forced peace between them. Some turns later Pedro declared war on Bismarck and threw a shitload of pracinhas, took their capital and razed half of his cities. Later on he got a cultural victory. Thinking about it now, Bismarck was just trying to help me. Stupid Pedro.

I just realised that Pedro's theme is actually unique among all other Civ 5 leader themes. Normally, a leader's peace theme is a more or less faithful representation of the original national music piece that was used as inspiration (Arirang, Capulets and Montagues, I Vow To Thee, My Country) and the war theme is original, only using minor snippets from it. However, Pedro's war theme is actually very close to Chega de Saudade, with small alterations, while his peace theme has almost nothing in common with it. Is it because Chega de Saudade is simply more powerful and military-sounding that other national music?

Imperios It means "No More Longing". However, while our military has little to no reason to feel any pride whatsoever from 1964 and on, it DID help the Allies against Fascist Italy. And it did so - and this song sorta makes me think of that - with very little in the way of resources. Brazilians are known for ingenuity in face of scarcity. This song - the gentle bossa nova song turned into "we will END YOU" basically screams, to me: "Yeah, we seem nice, but we WILL find a way to harm you and you won't even know it because we are a bunch of cunning scoundrels". But that's just me. :P

João Lucas Fraga That's actually how i see it, because...The greatest thing brazilians did in WW2, besides taking a lot of Italy, was to trick an entire german division of 40.000-50.000 guys to surrender to them, after using a lot of smoke and mirrors to make the germans think that the 5.000 guys the brazilians had were a lot more. So yeah, they were such crazy scoundrels and con artists, that the Nazi's thought they were surrounded and outnumbered, while the brazilians were the ones actually outnumbered 8-1. That's one hell of an achievement.

Not really, there was an incident some years ago that some FARCs guerrilla tried crossing the border in the amazon. There was a group of soldiers in the Jungle Training, they started only armed with knives. They killed about 30 something guerrillas and sent the rest running back to Colombia. There is a reason we're still considered the best inside a jungle. Also, there is the ONU relief missions, where our soldiers are highly regarded for being professionals and at the same time really charismatic. In the last 10 years, the army did some really good stuff, outside of Brazil, obviously.
