Brazil have a peculiar history. We are the last country to criminalize slavery (The monarchy supported that because it was a big deal for landowners and their production). But, in 1888, his daughter Princess Isabel was supporting the abolicionists and created the "Áurea Law", which banned slavery forever. Because of that, landowners and the army (Who don't support the monarchy anymore and has positivist influences from Republicanism) ascended to the power via coup d'etat. From 1889 to 1894, our country was ruled by the army with Deodoro da Fonseca (1889-1891) and Floriano Peixoto (1891-1894). Only in 1894 the first election took place, and Prudente de Morais (1894 - 1898) was the first civil president. Nowadays, there's no "communist education" in our schools, but our actual Alt-Right government has created inumerous fake news about the communism and left in general to spread fear amongst the population to justify Police Violence, education funding and Social Security cuts and privatization of our state-owned enterprises. Of course, there is a lot more about of our political history (included a military dictatorship from 1964 to 1985). I love to be Brazilian and i love my people and it history. "Deus que me conceda esses últimos desejos - Paz e Prosperidade para o Brasil." - Pedro II

This guy's story makes me cry: basically loathed being thrusted into a leadership position, but he did his duty anyways because he understood the gravity of the situation and his own responsibility. He gave Brazil his life. He didn't want to. Loved Brazil, but seems like he would've supported it another way were it his choice. But he did his duty anyways and gave Brazil his life. "With great power comes great responsibility" may be a comicbook line for fictional superheroes, but this guy gave it meaning in real life. I could practically cry reading some of the comments on videos about him too; I always see so many Brazilians that refer to him as the only leader that ever truly cared about them, and perhaps that's true. It's absolutely painful to see that sure enough, since he's been gone, the country's suffered from corruption. Sooooo much potential in Brazil being wasted by corrupt politicians. And the one guy who ever stood up for them sadly seems to have understood his own mortality and that he can't be there forever. There is perhaps no more noble deed than dedicating one's life to the work of helping others even when one would much rather be living their life another way. Pedro II encompassed this perhaps better than anyone else. For that alone, he may damned well be the greatest leader to have ever lived.

How did you got these informations?
@Longknife
@Longknife 4 жыл бұрын
@@DaviSilva-oc7iv Documentaries about him and especially his final years. Just playing Civ 5 got me curious about various leaders and Pedro II really stood out. Everything points to him being a genius that impressed historical figures such as Nietzsche and Charles Darwin. He actually got multiple write-in votes to become a USA Senator (could've been another position, I forget, but people in USA were writing in his name for elections) and was recognized by multiple other foreign agencies and organizations for being a great leader and for having an amazing mind. He seemed to prefer a life as a scholar and once said if he could choose any job for himself, he would've been a teacher. If I'm not mistaken, the Brazilian Portuguese translation of a famous novel was done by him. (forget which, unfortunately. My memory says Don Quixote but seeing as that wouldn't be a complex translation, it doesn't make sense) He seemed conflicted with his position and in a way, resented it. You have to realize the guy became emperor when he was still 5 years old. He never had a life to live for himself; he was put to the task of leading Brazil for practically his whole life. He never really got to do things for himself and always had to act in the interests of others. That's why I say he practically sacrificed his life for the good of the people; it doesn't seem like he was very happy as emperor (especially in his later years) but did his duty anyways for the good of the people. Effectively what happened in the end was Pedro II abolished slavery, this made him wildly popular, but certain corrupt interests that benefited from slavery thus wanted to stage a coup to replace him, and did so while he was away on a trip to another country. Those same corrupt interests argued for a republic instead of a monarchy: freedom of speech and rule by the people instead of by an emperor. In any other country, this would probably be a wise decision, but in this case, the call for a Republic was merely the vehicle the corrupt interest groups utilized to try and oust him. He was so beloved that huge portions of the military were telling him to give the word and they'd be willing to go to the grave for him, but he insisted he didn't want Brazilian blood to be shed, so he simply stepped aside and let the coup succeed. Perhaps he was tired of his position and lamented his life wasted working for others. Perhaps he felt the change to a republic was inevitable since he lacked an heir. Either way, the bitter part is that as part of this event, he had to be exiled out of Brazil. He spent the rest of his years in Europe, longing to return to Brazil and missing his homeland. His funeral was visited by thousands from around the globe. Unfortunately for Brazil, it hasn't really been the same since his loss, either. Under Pedro II, Brazil had a navy that even Great Britain would hesitate to come to blows with. Brazil has not returned to this level of being a world superpower since then, which is honestly impressively bad because Brazil is a resource rich land that SHOULD be a major superpower, it's just constantly being strangled by corruption so it never utilizes it's full potential.

"Pedro II’s peace theme brings out his melancholy nature and transforms one of the last motives in Chega de Saudade into the main melody for the peace. The opening and closing are broad, grand gestures while the middle section features solo flute accompanied by clarinets and oboe, alluding to Pedro II’s humble living as well as his exiled end. " - Geoff Knorr Composer of the theme.. Also, parts of the melody is from Brazilian composer Villa lobos with his chorus N.10... And have some style applied on it, this is why peace theme don't look like "chega de saudade" at all. It's more symbolic and abstract..

"May God grant me these last wishes - peace and prosperity for Brazil." - The last words of Pedro II right before passing away. While they prepared his body, a locked package was found in the bedroom with a message wrote by the Emperor himself: "It's soil of my country; I wish that it be put in my coffin if I die far from my Fatherland". The package contained soil from every province of the Empire of Brazil.

I can not remember the man who said it, it may have been Nietzsche, but when they met Pedro II and came to knew him, they were so enamored by the beauty of his golden soul that the man exclaimed "In you is Marcus Aurelius reborn". In all the world, I think Pedro is among but a handful of leaders who truly and earnestly earns his comparison with Marcus Aurelius, the philosopher emperor of Rome. I never lose all my faith in humanity when I know I breath the same air and walk the same soil as those men who always strived to take the noble, yet difficult path and sought wisdom over pleasure.

I miss this vibe of Civ 5’s Brazilian music compared to Civ 6. Civ 6 especially for its later themes lent itself to the faster and cheerful “carnival” like vibes with Brazil’s music. Which isn’t horrible but in truth that’s a small part of the sounds of Brazil that is overhyped due to stereotyping. But Brazil’s tracks in Civ 5 come with a more subtle melancholy, even down to the Cristo Redentor track when you unlock the wonder. It’s like it took the vibes of those older folk songs played with almost nothing more then a guitar and scaled it up to orchestra, the tune truly living up to “saudade”. And better yet, it matches very well for Pedro’s story as well. A melancholy tale that is still marked by his devotion to his position. And honestly I think other Brazilians can agree that with the unfortunate state the country is often in, we tend to identify with a lot of those more sadder melodies.

As a socialist and an anti-Imperialist, I have disdain for most Monarchs. Notice how I said most, as Pedro II was one of the few who have certainly both deserved the title and did not contribute to exploitation of a lower-class. While I still greatly miss and admire both Sankara, Allende and countless others, Pedro was still a wonderful leader. May Brazil forever prosper !

Brazil is not just Rio de Janeiro, Christ and Carnival .. Brazil is a big country, it is the same size USA without Alaska. It has many different cultures and traditions. This song can symbolize the emperor don pedro ii in his palace, in the mountains of Rio de Janeiro, in the winter cold thinking about the future of their country .. Brazil is not only beach, carnival and football. There are 27 different states with different customs and accents and climate, as US.

The marjority of the foreigns always think that Brazil's culture is only that thing of "Carnival, Samba, Football, Favelas" and etc. This doesn't represent the entire Rio de Janeiro, and even less the whole Brazil! Rio de Janeiro, by itself, it's a very diverse state with portuguese, african (samba there), french, swiss and italian cultures. The african culture was indeed decisive to the actual brazilian culture, as was for the US. Yes, we have the biggest carnival in the whole world, but do you know, for example, that 59% of the brazilians don't like it? But well, from what I read some time ago, this "samba and carnival" stereotype came from commercials from an brazilian tourism agency which emphasized, in an very exaggerated way, the samba, the carnival and the beaches. This worked well for tourism, but greatly modified the image of Brazil around the world. We are just another western country. Nothing "exotic" or anything like that. We just have specific characteristics as every nation in the wolrd. The beautiful music used fits perfectly in the game environment, and with Brazil as well.

My country Brazil, declared war to Germany today. Germany humiliating blitz against Brazil (7x1!) in our own world cup, in our own territory, is an offense that most of my people will not forgive or forget for 20 turns. I sincerely don't care, and I commemorated german victory over us, maybe my people thinks about building a civilization with dignity for all instead of wasting time and money on soccer. Soccer is a political issue in my ridiculous civilization, now unhappiness lowered to -50 and people is burning bus, cars, banks, whatever can be broken and destroyed, and building units surrounding our main cities so it's good to prepare your panzers Bismarck because Pedro II is coming for you. And I hope Germany wins the war, Brazil will be better being controlled even by a foreign power than governing itself, we deserve to become a colony again. Deutschland über alles!
