From the shoulder right down to the figertips, the complete left arm gets an overhaul as we finish the outstanding tasks. Starting with the hand and finger covers we gradually complete the hand and forearm. The bicep gets some covers and the shoulder is completed. Finally the arm gets connected to the torso and we get to see some movements.

I have an 8" x 12" x 0.010 white plastic sheet that I cut into strips to cover the back of the bicep. I held it in place with dots of hot glue so that it can be removed rather easily. It does help the bicep look more solid.

Steve, You look like you are doing a great job. Are you doing this alone? I'm just getting started and am looking at some initial start items. Do you have any suggestions? How much filament have you gone through to this point or can you break it down by hand, forearm and bicep?
@SteveRaynerMakes
@SteveRaynerMakes 4 жыл бұрын
Yes I'm doing this alone and with just one printer. I have gone through about 4 rolls of filiment so far, I think. You need to allow for some failed prints. I would start with the hand or the head. That way you can get some fairly satisfying results quickly. Make sure you have a good quality printer and that it is tuned. Don't underestimate the time required. Some parts take up to 6 hours to print and there are a lot of parts.

@@SteveRaynerMakes Thanks for the info. I'm in the same boat. I have already assembled the right arm but am waiting for the filament to get here. I have already mostly completed the head but ran into some clearance issues with the worm gears. I found what is supposed to be a solution on the forum with the slicer software, so going to give that a try so that the pistons can be put together and operated properly. Time is definitely what you say is true. I have been at the print and assemble stage for over three weeks and mostly printing. I have to try to get my second machine up and running again . I had some cheaper parts break and then found out last week that I cannot use the same computer for both printers because the config files mess with each other. I have two different name brands and types and they will not play well with each other. Good luck on your build and I hope to see more of your videos and see you in the forum.

Hi Steve, I'm always referring to your KZbin. I have completed my first inMoov to both arms, body and neck. I am now starting to work on a second InMoov before making head and am wondering if I should add a finger sensor. I see that you also do not have a finger sensor, is there any reason?
@SteveRaynerMakes
@SteveRaynerMakes 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, this is awesome. Congratulations on your own work. The reason I excluded the finger sensors was to keep things simple to start with. If you have already done an InMoov without finger sensors and are intending to build a second one, then I would highly recommend including finger sensors. My intention is to get the robot complete and then I will start on some upgrades. Hopefully I should have some more InMoov videos soon. Thank you for supporting me and my channel.

Which version of the neck are you building? I have the original neck at the moment. I presume you are building the latest version which is an improved version of the Bob Houston neck design.

Nice work! Did you find that building the Finger Starter was crucial to building the body of InMoov? just curious
@SteveRaynerMakes
@SteveRaynerMakes 4 жыл бұрын
Not really no. I would start straight with one of the full hands. It just takes a bit longer before you get results because you need to make the whole hand wrist and forearm to mount the servos before you can get things moving. The benefit of the finger starter is that you can get a taste of the project quickly. If you decide you didn't enjoy it as much as you thought you haven't waste too much time effort and money. If on the other hand you're already sure you want to build the whole thing, then don't waste time on the finger starter.

@@SteveRaynerMakes Thanks for the advice. I have already printed the entire body in PLA and it's been sitting in a box for months. I got about halfway through the finger starter (work duties, family, Iron Man suit building, etc) but I have to follow the English subtitles for Gael's video because he speaks in French in it. I have all the supplies to do it though. I just need to carve the time in to do it..Just wondering from someone who has done it already, did you have any issue with getting the fishing line through the finger joints?
@techsavvyhero
@techsavvyhero 4 жыл бұрын
@@SteveRaynerMakes Thanks for the advice. I have all the supplies for the Finger Starter and have already glued most of the finger joints together (minus the tip). I haven't started with the fishing line installation yet. Was it easy to accomplish and test? As far as the InMoov body, I have the whole thing already printed from head to feet in PLA...just waiting to be assembled.. :)
@SteveRaynerMakes
@SteveRaynerMakes 4 жыл бұрын
If you haven't assembled the fingers yet, then feed the fishing line though as you assemble them. I think this video demonstrate that technique well. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aJjMpKaJotSaoKs I used slightly thinner line than the 200lbs line that Gael recommends. It can be a little tricky to feed them through, you need patience (and a pair of tweezers helps). Feeding them through the wrist is tricky also. The main problem I had on my first hand was that I fitted the pullys on the servos back to front. That took weeks to figure out why the finger would not move correctly.

Why is rope used? For example, are robot sophia's fingers controlled by rope? (Like a puppet)
@SteveRaynerMakes
@SteveRaynerMakes 4 жыл бұрын
I think it's quite a common technique as it closely mimics how a real human hand works with tendons. Sorry I don't know about Sophia.

can I use servo motor mg90s Instead of tower pro mg996r
@SteveRaynerMakes
@SteveRaynerMakes 3 жыл бұрын
Not with the standard build. The MG90 is a micro servo (very small), the MG996R is a standard size servo. In theory you could use the MG90 but it would not have as much strength and you would need to redesign the servo holder.

There is an option to have a virtual InMoov, but I have not explored that yet. I think it's a fascinating project to follow even if you're not building one yourself. Thanks for the comment.
