It's crazy how LJL uses that lasso leg to constantly pummel. He's developed a lot of dexterity with it, almost ape like.

He had it there every single time Lucas touched him. Just extra insurance to prevent the pass and square up when needed

And really fun to watch, I used to not care for guard players cause it was just stall and sweep but these two have more offensive guards than most. The choi bar setups are dynamic as hell too

Thanks for another great breakdown! His lateral knee flexibility is insane. As an older flexible dude, I'd be afraid of losing my ACL/MCL.

I’m wondering how to play key master and avoid lateral injuries to the knee. It seems that if the person pushes forward into the leg that is doing the key master it could really damage the knee. I guess that’s why he cross body frames with his arm to take away some of the tension.

@@ursinhobjj his hip flexibility looked like a big factor~ I'm guessing the stress to the knees can be taken off when your hip can rotate. I wanna develop an outside guard but if my knees can't take it I'm gonna bulk up and play a Gordon/Danaher style inside guard instead. awesome breakdown btw

the more mobility you have with external rotation of the hip, and glute/piriformis, the less tension there is on your lcl/lateral parts of your knee and you add being on a hip/angle, you almost remove the possibility of hurting yourself here, and of course personally if you don't feel comfortable there anytime you feel you're going to be reset back onto your back/flat, you can always just give the pass tldr; lateral pressure comes from being flat/not being on your side when looking for that lasso, so you can alleviate this by being on your opposite hip of the leg you're trying to lasso/high pummel with. Extra insurance if you work external rotation of the hip and glute/piriformis mobility and strength!

@@wusgood506 I genuinely appreciate this advice - this is sound technique and solid instruction - thank you!

@@ryanpatterson3900 of course! speaking from personal perspective, i've never fully torn my lcl but i sprained it (which took about 4 weeks or so to heal up) and that was enough for me to really take into consideration the positioning of my lower body especially in a retaining situation!

Hey man, really love this style of breakdowns with the pausing and drawing to point things out. Love that you explain the why, it helps out a lot of novices like myself a lot. Keep up this style and format of breakdowns if you can man, it's very much appreciated. Instant subscribe.

Really makes me want to try out Levi’s guard and see how he doesn’t get knee injuries paying that keymaster.
