Build cities near coast and build guild halls and ports in them. And build up your capital quite a bit because development spreads to adjacent counties. So focusing development in a single county is a very viable strategy. Diligent planing and centralization helps with that. And the best skill tree for building up development is actually Scholar in the learning tree. 30% dev growth + %20 development task speed.

there are bad events, normally the courtiers extorted is bad if there is a chance that they murder you (the 50 pop opinion helps and if you are high up in stewardship the last option for courtier and guest opinion counters it) there are also events that would reduce control to minimum or for 10 years (honestly 10 years seems to be better especially now with seneschals with high stewardship and prowess). if you got someone rich, a single steward or diplo vassal, who is generous and possibly a friend, you can extort him back to back 4-5 times

@@laszlobandi6456 their not bad events though, with the cortiers event, you can just exchnage prestege for the money if you want, there is also never an even semi-sucessful murder scheme against you, and you can just have your spymaster disrupt any schemes that do form. also I will admit, the county extortion is the worst one, but still not bad, either you get a peasant war that you can easily crush, or you get -100 control for like 300 gold, I dont think any county early game earns that in 3 years (about the time it takes to get back control) and its not like you cant earn money in that time, its just reduced.

Stewardship is the best starting education and focus (for feudal rulers, Diplomacy for Tribals), nothing comes close. Tips n' Tricks: Start of the game, modify your feudal contract for higher taxes and guaranteed Council position, and make yourself the Steward. The extra gold easily covers the extra taxes, and you will be swimming in ludicrous amount of gold anyways. Focus on finishing the left tree first, generating gold out of thin air (Extortion is massively overpowered, basically gives you a free building every 5 years as well as being able to spam Banquets and Hunts on cooldowns). With all that extra prestige, you can easily add Feudal Election to your 2 main duchies (for those that don't know about it, when you hold all the counties within these 2 ''main'' duchies and set Feudal Elective, you basically cancel confederate partition if your main title is Kingdom-tier. If you vote for you player heir, all of your other kids won't get anything since your 2 duchies have different succession laws, which removes them from partition). And then, every 10 years you can Sell Minor Titles for great amount of cash, especially if you are now King-level. When you have the option, build extra Baronies (lands you control directly are always better than cities or temples). Earlier in the game you will give them to Barons, but you can revoke them at anytime without Tyranny when your domain limit increases, and frankly, exept some ludicrous Duchies (Bohemia for example), you will safely hit 10-12 domain limit early with stewardship. With that amount of gold, you will have built everything to level 2 in a matter of years. Your troops count will be massive (Martial characters will be very jealous) and the amount of prestige you have will makes Diplomacy focus characters mad, since you will have access to as much alliances if not more (not that you need them). For barony build, the best way to build up is as follow : Land-based : Walls, Farms, Cattle, Military-building that boost your single men-at-arms type (explained later why) Coastal : Walls, Ports, Farms, Military Fertile Land-based: Walls, Manors, Farms, Regiment Military Fertile Coastal : Walls, Manors, Ports, Regiment Military 3-building baronies: Walls, Farms (replace with ports for coastal), Military 3-building fertile baronies : Walls, Manors, Regiment You will have so much gold, that you don't need to go ham on gold buildings, seriously. Having those military buildings will boost your troop count significantly and since your domain limit is insane, insane bonus on your m-a-a. Men-at-arms : Always have a Siege m-a-a. Go for a second one when you hit your fifth one. Then, go for a single one, Armoured Footmen or your culturally strong one. Why go for one type? Well, the counter mechanics are flawed. Example: You have 3 stacks of Armoured Footmen, 40 attack (estimate) each. To be countered to 10% attack power, your ennemies need double that amount of Skirmishers (10 attack), which nobody exept a human player will have, but nobody can field 6 regiments anyways. If they have 3 stacks (equal numbers), your Armoured Footmen will be countered to 50% (20, still stronger than the 10 attack skirmishers). Since you upgraded a single type of m-a-a, they will be strong as hell.

I think Intrigue is better than Administration if you are a smaller vasall: You can fabricate hooks on your liege which gives you early opportunities to change your vasall contract to have a court position at all times and then you can demand to become the court steward of your liege, which gives you a lot of gold per month compared what you get with your 1 or 2 counties and you also get a bonus for taxes and building speed/costs. You can also fabricate hooks on other lords courtiers/knights or make them your affair to force them to come to your court (if you can get a Steward with the Architect skill, you will get building bonus again), resulting in having a court with 20-25 points in the respective court position. Saves you lots of money. I think however that noobs to CK3 are better of with Administration in the beginning because Intrigue needs some deeper understanding of game mechanics.

@@SnapStrategy some people do this and boost only archers with the military buildings, since they're the cheapest m-a-a you can get. It's very viable although archers are not as great late game when powerful rulers start fielding heavy cavalry. But whatever you pick follow his strategy of having always at least 1-2 siege m-a-a and a single type of combat ones that you boost with all your military buildings. I've done a tall campaign as Duke/King of Portugal where I ended up with a massive army, controlling just the Iberian peninsula, and none of the other powers could actually challenge me.

@@CumradFluffy What are your most preferred focusses? For me it's Education (mid-endgame) > Intrigue (early game) > Stewardship (every few rulers to invest lots of money in more barony towns or upgrading buildings) > Diplomacy (in mid/engame when Intrigue isn't as powerful anymore) > Martial (I hate it and only play it when I am forced to play it by unlucky unforeseen succession events). As you said, I really like the planning and scaling with player skill and understanding of mechanics that some of the focus trees allow. As we both agree Stewardship is always a solid choice.
@CumradFluffy3 жыл бұрын
@@Shiny49GER Stewardship for the 2 first characters usually, to develop my lands and secure a steady income for future generations. What I dislike about the other education is their lack of generating gold, which makes it harder to be good at what decisions or focus the other education grants. When the 2 stewards are done, I rp and follow the focus of my heirs. I try to make them Diplomats to gain access to Epics, to further boost my renown gain. Lately I have been experimenting with realm fracture and now, I let them split. The renown gain is really good early and makes for interesting and rp alliances. I like playing Martial characters, to gain the elope scheme (its quite fun). Depending on religion, I try to focus on holy wars (especially with Martial rulers). And with the multiple kings of my dynasty, I get invested in their wars and play to defend them. Gives me a good challenge for sometimes they are really bad at keeping their lands instead of just forming an empire right of the bat.

I have a lot of experience doing this strat. You can become so powerful doing this that late game its viable to paint the map if you want, no normal empire in the game controlled by the AI would ever be powerful enough to stop you. The main reason this was never a strat people thought was good is because it takes twice the time as just painting the map. Long term it is stronger, and better than painting the map. Though its easier and less time consuming to paint the map and gain power that way.

@@SnapStrategy Hopefully it does, thats always what CK as a series has felt lacking in. If I am role playing as a medieval ruler, I want to feel like one. The war aspects and the mechanics of actually running your kingdom that you can build from scratch are very fun and engaging, it has just always felt like there were large gaps missing where there should have been systems and interactions. I am genuinely looking forward to what new frontiers come with this game for this genre. It feels like it has the potential to define Grand Strategy for years to come if they do this game justice.
@admontblanc3 жыл бұрын
@@SnapStrategy you can actually mix both strategies if you really want. I guess it depends on what kind of kingdom title you're after. All you need is to spawn an heir and marry for an alliance with one of the stronger rulers, like HRE Kaiser, King of England or King of France. Any of those 3 backing you will allow you to quickly overpower whoever you need to crush for your kingdom title. All the while you continue to focus your tall strategy on your domains, and hopefully maintain full control of your main duchy's baronies like you did here. The only thing you have to keep in mind is that on a larger realm you have to start micromanaging vassals as well as your dynasty if you want to keep everything sailing smoothly. The game will always throw you something harder to chew at some point or another, like here when your first gen heir got wrecked with illnesses, so keeping things under a balance is key. Strategize your goals and plan ahead. For example, unwanted male heirs can be inducted into a learning focus, you can then assign them a cleric as a guardian, and when thy come off age you can make them take the vows, which makes them a cleric themselves and disables all their inheritance claims permanently without costing you anything (this way you don't have to spend dynasty points which are slow to gain initially for you to unlock the dynastic bonuses). Historically a lot of noble families used to do this to get their lesser children into powerful positions in the clergy, like having them rise to become cardinals (which could then influence the election of popes), I hope Paradox eventually adds more mechanics where this can be used to our advantage too.

I know this is a CK3 video, but seeing this video really brought me back memories of playing tall in CK2. Funny story, at one point, I was playing the count of Milan in Lombardy. I got married to one of my liege's sisters for a hefty prestige boost (and surprisingly decent statted wife) . The king accepted cos she was fairly down on the succession list. So a few years pass and the king dies. His unpopular son now sat on the throne. There were a few factions that were set up to usurp him, but they were all disbanded soon after. But one day I found that my wife now had a gold ring around her portrait, it confused me for a second until the pop up appeared just a moment later. Apparently the vassals actually managed to bully the king into abdicating the throne. And my wife now sat on the throne. And as my marriage to her was not matrilineal, my kids will inherit the throne. It definitely defeated the purpose of playing tall, focusing on one county and whatnot, but God was that some rng. Mission failed successfully I guess. Ahh, CK2, you never quite know what to expect.

But the additional kids they produce make your kingdom better, as those kids can have super high traits and super high up in relevance list, so it's a lot of generations in short time, lot of good skills and no claims on your lands, and worst case they marry random vassals so less inbreeding and higher average skills.

I like to use the character finder for searching for physicians instead of the default event. You just have to set the filters up the physician trait and then sort by opinion, it might take some diplomacy but you can often sway or seduce tier 2 or 3 physicians and then get them to come to your court. @@SnapStrategy with the normal 1066 start you gotta expand quick at first, the africans are quite strong until they lose a holy war. also you can't have the greeks take you as a vassal. with royal court it became easier, before that each king of Byzantine and Hre tried to take your lands. But now is harder to make the empire, while before the decision gave a tiny empire title, now is just a kingdom while still having 3 kingdoms within, so weird. there is a silver mine in Iglesias/Cagliari in the duchy of Sardinia, which is huge gold income. technically you can have Napoli or Palermo as a capital with the decision, but the best situated land is Capua, just between Rome and Napoli and it's also a duchy capital. Iglesias would be a better income, but I guess it's enough to have it with extra tax from the duchy building. With the items it's better to have your son have the duchy of Sicily which later can be the kingdom of Trinacra? So if you rotate a bit and push up palermo development, your sons can always control that while you have the rest. Kind of the smallest Empire that you can have. You can also give land to your brothers/uncles in Africa, rise to empire size then just let them go independent, you can have half of the peninsula as a tiny empire, as a vassal you have more gold, but as a king or empreror you have more renown, 1+1 maa, 1+1 more domain, a lot of fun stuff.

The best way to test if it's REALLY worth it, in my opinion, is playing with friends. It worked okay for me, but not that great. Scandinavia with no feudal system can be extremely strong and take over so much territory in the first 60 years or so that it's hard to keep up with real players as a guy who just plays tall. I managed to fend him off by being able to afford a shit load of mercenaries though.

When you're playing tall like that you should invest heavily into strong men-at-arms,i.e., heavy Cavalry and heavy Infantry. This will make you extremely powerful and you can absolutely destroy armies. I suggest you split your Army into two. One being your siege army,i.e., some levies and your siege equipment and also a general with the siege engineer trait. This trait lowers the time for each siege phase, inturn speeding up sieges. Your second Army should be your Elite Army,i.e., all your men-at-arms and knights with your best General coupled with some levies as cannon fodder. But you do not want too much levees in their army as it will lower the quality. You should take out enough levies to where the Army is at least at high quality. You shouldn't have an army of just your men-at-arms and knights unless you have a lot of them, at least 2K to 3K. At that point your army will crush any other Army that is at most three times your size. This strategy is really good if you want to dominate your opponents and also feel perfectly fine when a country with a much larger Army attacks you because you know you can just destroy them.

If you wanna a string MAA and are willing to create a character(even if they literally 0 in all stats) horse archers are by far the most OP of them all. Jurchen is an easy way to get it and you van even swap culture after you get 4 or 6 regiments to not have that different culture penalty. Though that is a tad gamey (also horse archers are skirmishers to every county can build an upgrade for them with the camps)

It dosnt matter when your playing tall! you can go without m a a at all! you will get an insane number of Levies and you can buy mercenaries if you need speciel troops.. Its a vast of money to use on m a a when playing tall! why you need them?
@laszlobandi64562 жыл бұрын
each pair of rulers can modify contracts, like you and your liege and your sons, all you need is a hook on them, not even, as you can give levies for tax or special rights. if you increase levies, you are technically stronger in their eyes as powerful vassal is decided based on the contribution, while you pay almost no taxes. sure it can be a bit weird, but if you got an old ruler, you can have an older son on intrigue, so murdering your liege, modify contract, die, modify again, etc. if you got no liege, same goes with vassals, but also your steward can be your friend and might have a chance to push up low contracts, when you take more tax and less levies it might push up their levy contribution while keeping the tax high. this way you will have a lot less levies but more money, which might bait in neighbouring rulers into attacking you. the higher fort levels and levy reinforcement in architecht is super good on zerging, so just fighting them over and over on top of a castle or hills until they starve or lose. the best traits might be aggressive attacker and cautious leader, and your main terrain type like plains or mountains or whatever. those traits will take less deaths or kill more and while your score might not be the best at first but you regenerate quite some army and take a lot of gold for them attacking you. also prestige is coming fast from big fights, which normally you wouldn't get with no offensive wars, but the high prestige gives high opinion bonuses.
@laszlobandi64562 жыл бұрын
@@donkarnage6986 depends, if you got a small place near a mountain or ocean, it's decently defensible. if you reform the religion, you might get worse marriages at first but you can improve a lot of things with it. like control function instead the other two, since they take money to increase levies or give warrior priests, which are both useless, you can also make woman only priests, which makes easier to control the sinful priests (marry them away) and you can reduce or increase the sins, with lay clergy you can hold all domains directly and even take money from vassals for their sins. catholic is really bad, especially that some sins are good traits and some virtues are bad, it's much better with some tribal groups, and you can still get decent marriages with a different base religion. and the religious pillars can be changed, for example human sacrifice can earn piety and you can raid in feudal, giving 5 prisoners for granted if you hit a warscore. so you can still do wars while not taking territory.

Stewardship is where it’s at. When I first started playing I kept trying to go with a martial focus, which was great for expansion but I was constantly dealing with uppity vassals rebelling. I tried learning for a bit too so I could reform faith early and get technology, that worked a bit better but money was always an issue so the first time a powerful enemy popped up or 2 strong enemies invaded simultaneously I would get dismantled. Now that I’m focusing stewardship it has been a LOT easier. My current game I started with Sardinia, which is a little OP because you can build a gold mine early on. Anyways I’m on my third ruler now, I have the Italian empire and just a few counties away from both Germania and Francia and about half way through Hispanics (by design, stupid partition laws), I’m pulling in almost 100 gold EVERY month, and I have barely had any rebellions. Probably because I’m making my vassals wealthy AF and I’m also the head of faith (who would have thought nudists were OP?). The main problem I’m dealing with is my vassals conquering TOO much land and creating succession issues, I’ve already had to grant independence to a few nations to avoid new empires popping up. Hell, I had two invasions going on at once in the France/Spain border and then the Byzantines invaded, what did I do? Let the Byzantines siege counties while I beat down the first two, reraised on the east side of the empire, spent all the gold I had on mercs and beat them into submission. In the amount of time it took me to beat back the Byzantines I had already earned back over 1,000 gold. Yeah, stewardship is broken.
@SnapStrategy3 жыл бұрын
Yeah i think the majority of people just pick martial when they first try ck, well i know i always did for ages and wondered why i never got anywhere, pick stewardship and you really can get away with anything, like you can make up for martial by just buying a stupid amount of mercs. I hope there's some updates to the lifestyle trees in the future to balance them out a bit more
@d_bak45852 жыл бұрын
Stewardship is just for the start though in a tall playstyle. Once your income is somewhat decent learning is so much better, only need to dip 3 points into stewardship for that development. In my 2nd tall game I hit 300k gold and max dev, innovations were maxed 80+ years before the last era unlocks
@Tomoose7362 жыл бұрын
@@d_bak4585 yeah, there are definitely some useful things in learning, it’s not so great once you have an empire built up, you have religion reformed, and innovations are done. Once you get that big the real challenge is holding your empire together and outside of the scholar tree it doesn’t offer much. Stewardship is always useful, avaricious for income, administrator for some useful vassal perks, and architect for development. Diplomacy actually becomes pretty useful in that era too, since you can really only control your heirs lifestyle, the only times I have completely avoided a civil war upon succession was when my heir was a diplomat. I usually immediately switch them to something else after that. But outside of that, the best way to keep your realm together is to make sure your heir has a huge treasury to dip into for bribery and mercs. I haven’t really tried the tall play through though, I usually do the exact opposite and expand as much as possible without spreading too thin and causing an inheritance crisis.

Whenever you marry, you should instantly demand conversion from your spouse. You get a lot higher opinion from that, and it makes seducing them easier. Also, I'd suggest only building things that give you the most gold, since you can use them to hire men-at-arms, and levies are pretty useless if you don't have very many of them. Edit: Constantly inviting knights is pretty good for getting better councillors, and 150 prestige is quite worth it.

When it comes to the schemes in court if you ever have one where someone valuable is very likely to die quickly check and see if they have any rivals, if so inprison them if you can, the murderer is almost always their rivals when dealing with the AI. If your mass breeding everyone in your court rivalries and schemes will be inevitable for you so always a good idea to train only a 1 or 2 people to be good at intrigue per generation to avoid high successes for these schemes in the future, now if you're spymaster want somebody dead it's going to happen as that's the name of the game but at least this tip will help you avoid everyone in your court go around killing one another left, right, and center.

you can convert your wife right away which is a decent opinion boost also be default there are the fertile ladies, but you can get infertile wives with even higher stats also you can just revoke the baronies and land your kids there for faster baby making. if they are generous they might give you some more money, and if they are gregarious they do feasts which is free stress reduction and relations. you should also choose the traits for your kids if you marry them. for your son and grandsons at least. if I can't get steward based genius, I get martial or learning, as the average of base stats affect his stats, so his childhood trait, and I usually like the bossy more than the pensive. usually diligent and greedy is the best, since your kids might get the opposite of each other and that's the best opposite pairing. one trait is for the education, one for the religion and one I guess random based on genetics then each kid gets one of those then the later ones decreased chances (still worth the stress to make them friends).
