I’m gonna try 30mm heat shrink tubing on the shaft. Also a 7/8” oak dowel 8” long epoxied inside the shaft for extra stiffness. Doesn’t add any weight.

@@Swing4TheRing not as good as I thought. The fiberglass shaft has a metal insert about 5 inches up from the bottom of the shaft. Which means the 7/8” oak dowel is only 5” long. Definitely better than nothing. A metal screw binding on fiberglass alone cannot be a good thing. I drilled a hole through the dowel and also had to sand it down just a little in order for it to fit. Got a perfect fit and I epoxied it in with JB Marine Weld. The original screw was tiny so I upgraded to a bigger size 12 stainless steel bolt with two SS washers & Nuts (nuts tightened against each other to lock them in). The shaft was loose inside the sand scoop. I thought that heat shrink tubing would be perfect. But it’s not. It was too thick. Turns out only one layer of electrical taper was perfect. Everything fits like a glove and is rock solid now.
