Merrill I've come up with a good name for those metal lids we dig. I went to a repurposed school (to apartments) and detected for a few days. That school is in a community with a lot of drunks and homeless. The property was about 1.5 acres in size. I must have dug 300+ olde English, etc. screw off lids while there over a 3 or 4 day period. Since most of those read like a coin of course you dig them. I started calling them Booze Clues LOL. The number on your detector is the clue, why not give it a good guess what kind of lid you are going to dig this time LOL. Boooze Clues. I see you digging a few yourself :) BTW I blame you for having a detecting sense of humor. I played one of your raps for my son the other day. He just laughed. :)

So true Merrill, I was out at 5 a.m. this morning, hunted 3 beach areas and I could see drag marks and dig holes from the overnighters. Targets were few, and hunting was hot and difficult, dry and wet sand. Nowadays it takes going out and hunting all night to get the jump on the others in our ‘ecosystem’. So many detectors mean less targets per hunter. Good advice for all especially the newbies.

Is it not more fun to metal detect with other detectorists? I mean surely there is way more beach than one can cover in a few hours by yourself? I'm not experienced and I can understand wanting to find all the treasure! My thoughts would be that it would be nice to meet others on a lonely night and have nice chats?

I just got my first metal detector on Sunday, a Simplex BT. When I was trying to find information on it there wasn't anything of Merrill quality out there. Apparently they're pretty new, so I would love to see you review their new series, in any combination of lite/bt/ultra. New detectorists will find your videos (as I did) and from what I could tell it's a pretty nifty little machine, so they will benefit from your insight. Granted, I'm near fresh water beaches, so it won't apply to everyone, but I'm curious your take on the new series of simplex. Thanks for all you're doing Merrill, I'm binging all your videos so glad to see new ones are still coming out! You've taught me a a lot already. Keep it up 👊

Hey Merrill, Yet again, you delivered another great video and made some very good points. I flew up to Long Island this past week for a quick runaway to visit family and friends, and hit Long Beach - which is where I grew up. I have my NY Detecting permit, so I also spent a day with my GF and detected Robert Moses with the XP Deus II (I used your crater maker program - which is perfect!) You are very right... this time of year it is best to go where the people are up on the sand (and the water was COLD)... however, as I was there after noon, there were tons of people on the sand and I didn't want to detect in the middle of them - so I focused my efforts along the water (it was low tide). We went midday and didn't really expect to find much, but I did find some unexpected items. More of that in my video coming this weekend. That said, I did get to see the air show practice on Friday from the beach which was also pretty cool. Have a wonderful summer. I hope to be back again later this summer to explore some more up there. Thx, Howie.

I went out on the Sunday before memorial day, to Clearwater Beach. I used my Seahunter 2 and found nothing worth more than .25 cents. But today, at another beach. I found a big o chunky gold ring, in the water with the seahunter. But I spent 2 hours in the Dry with my Manticore and found quite a bit of change.

Merrill any custom program you'd recommend for deep targets. Got a place some 1800 coins were found but dirt has been moved around the property for new buildings but same old dirt just moved to different location on the property
@MetalDetectingNYC7 ай бұрын
Start with Deep HC. It is the highest power program. Use the 13 inch coil. Set reactivity as low as you can handle. Set the audio response as high as you can handle. It is crucial you ground balance and ground grab. That tunes the machine. Untuned machines will not go as deep. Set filters (BCAPS etc.) to their lowest settings. That will maximize depth. You can go deeper on ground that 1.) is not mineralized 2.) lacks organic material (fertilizers zap depth big time) 3.) Is uniform in structure (dirt particles same size and makeup).

I’ve closely observed and interviewed the drivers. The problem with making the traps too small is that they could not efficiently check the sand because it would clog. I could see something like a chain get picked up but not coins or rings. That is consistent with what the drivers say.
