Why did you opt to add the frame to the outside of the building instead of inside the aperture?
@thetallcarpenter3 жыл бұрын
Hi Anthony.🖐 This customer is a chair user and this doorway is his rear fire escape route. The opening is only just wide enough to get through with his chair, and fitting a frame inside it as normal would make the opening too narrow. I also set the hanging side frame back the thickness of the door so that, when opened to 90 degrees,(in an emergency), it would still not reduce the width of the opening. Thanks for watching and your comment.😎 Cheers.

Hi, I'm new to this field and I have few questions: 1. Does screwing the cladding on to the door core affect the strength of the core? 2. Is there any other way of cladding? 3. What is the wall made of? 4. What is the kind of screw used to fix the door frame? Is the screw strong enough to hold the door frame and door?
@thetallcarpenter Жыл бұрын
Hi there🖐Screwing to the door core won't affect its strength. There probably isn't another way of cladding an existing door like this. The wall is solid brickwork, 100mm/4" thick. The fixings are super strong, M10x150mm Nylon type frame fixings👍Cheers Del

Why do both diagonal braces go in opposite directions? I always thought both had to have the bottom towards the hinge side. Would this way be the same for exterior gates?
@thetallcarpenter3 жыл бұрын
Hi Dan. These are mass produced doors and the diagonal braces are fitted in both directions so the door can be hung either side and not drop. You are right, that braces should really both run in the same direction from the bottom of the door on the hanging side.😎 Great comment.👍

@thetallcarpenter3 жыл бұрын
Hi Trevor. This customer is a chair user and this opening is only just wide enough to get his chair through, so I mounted the frame on the face of the brickwork to keep the doorway as wide as possible. (its his rear fire escape route). Thanks for your comment.😎 Cheers.
@fireblaster99613 жыл бұрын
That looks really odd how you put the frame onto the face brick work and not in the opening and did double fix the outside tongue and grove boards, won’t they cup with just toe nail screwed 🔥🔫
@thetallcarpenter3 жыл бұрын
Hi FB. The boards wont cup as the tongue holds the groove edge down.👍 Good spot on the way I did the frame. This job is for a chair user, and the door I'm fitting is to his rear fire escape route. The brick opening is wide enough for his chair, but not with any kind of frame fitted. I also fitted the hanging side frame back the thickness of the door so that, in an emergency, the door, when opened to 90 degrees, will not restrict the opening with of the door way.😎 Thanks for your comment.👍

I am about to do larch cladding on my mancave but everything i have read says you can't secret fix larch it must be face fixed as its unstable ? Did you ever have any problems with splitting and cracking after installing it that way?
@thetallcarpenter3 жыл бұрын
Hi there. That's interesting as this particular larch cladding has a specific profile that allows for secret fixing.
