"As they sang, I felt the love of beautiful things made by cunning and by magic arise within me. A fierce and jealous love, the desire of the hearts of dwarves. It must've been something Tookish waking up inside me, for I wished to see the great mountains. And to see pine trees and waterfalls, and to carry a sword instead of a walking stick. Through the window, I could see the stars in the dark sky, and I thought of the jewels of the dwarves in their dark caverns. Suddenly in the wood beyond the water, a flame leapt up. Probably someone lighting a wood fire, then I thought of plundering dragons settling on my quiet hill, and kindling it all to flames...ugh..." ~Bilbo Baggins

@@Flame1611 exactly. To compare elvish music and dwarvish music Is like trying to compare classical and/or opera with Norse hymns and/or sea shanties. They're both beautiful. It gives me a sense of adventure and grandeur. This song makes me wish I lived in a world without all the technology we have and just live in a non polluted world where the rivers and oceans are clear as the sky and the air is refreshing and just sit by a fire with my friends getting drunk and singing into the dead of night.

As much as I love fantasy series such as A Song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones) and The Witcher, Lord of the Rings has always carried a special place in my heart. I remember the first time reading the books after watching the movies and felt so amazed that I began to realize this series as being not only the best Fantasy series ever created, but easily one of the greatest stories I’ve ever seen and read. There isn’t a single day where I never think about a series such as Lord of the Rings, and yes I have read a bunch of Stephen King and George RR Martin stories. While I love those two authors to death for what they have created, Tolkien is on a whole other level of someone truly special. I’m glad Fantasy as a genre exists for not only someone like me who is looking at becoming a screenwriter, but for others who want to escape reality and enter a fantastic world such as Middle-earth!

Little known fact.... The Lord of The Rings book series, ACTUALLY started as a bedtime story for Tolkien's son in the trenches of france in WW1... He would read the letters to his comrades, and they would be able to sleep peacefully amidst the terror of the trench. He saved the letters, and upon his return, insisted his father continue the work. The rest, well, that's history... Lol.

I spent my childhood in a house at the edge of a pine forest on the shores of the Baltic sea. My big brother with whom I lived there has always been a nerd, so it was always about fantasy and medieval atmosphere. We went to the woods, would come up with cool maps and legends of fictional worlds and of course I've watched all the movies on the Lord of the Rings 5 times over. I remembered those times we sat late in the evening with nothing but a dim warm lamp as I looked out into the dark pine forest hearing the howling of dogs (or maybe even those were wolves) and the cawing of crows. That feeling. That sense of distant great and wanderous something, not bright and full of joy, but neither dark and cruel... That feeling of something great and cold, something universal and so absolute that you seem insignificant in the face of it. This song is one of the few things that pinches those of my nerves that let me once again remember vividly that feeling. When I hear it I once again stand at the window gazing into the Estonia white night and see a raven sitting on the tree branch... cawing.

Absolutely love 'Misty Mountains Cold'. Just reeks of high adventure. I wasn't thrilled with the Hobbit trilogy at first. But re-watching it recently, there was more good than I remember. I still think 'Battle of Five Armies' was utterly underwhelming. But the first two were quite good. EVERYTHING with the Dragon was done really well, and that was the most important thing to get right.
