Yes, that is Eithne. She is Maire's younger sister. She left the group because she didn't really like live performances or life on the road as she is a very private person. She much prefers making her music in the studio where she can get it just right.

IMO Fuaim is the first album where Clannad really found their "voice". It's great to see so much of that album played live here. And yes, it's neat seeing a very young Enya (playing a Mellotron at one point!), although the poor thing looks spooked every time the camera is pointed at her!

This was 1982, Clannad released their first album in 1973, and had toured Europe a few times by this time. This tour was the only time Enya played with the band, and - hardly coincidentally - when they developed their modern "ethereal" sound using synth/keyboards.

Wow this is amazing footage - I love it!! Im always amazed how Moyas voice is still as good now as it was then . Im not an Enya fan at all but i love Moyà. I've met them too and they are lovely people. I've got a couple of great photos of that meeting a couple of years ago. I actually thought Enya had left Clannad by this stage but maybe I'm wrong.

That group of people has multi-hundred million dollars by now. Enya (the shy girl) sold over 80M records, Moya (the soloist) sold over 20M. Clannad, the rest of the group sold over 15M. That is 115M total album sales. No one in there that stage is ordinary, just down to earth and they were just starting to gain attention.

That's the authentic Clannad sound and voices. Luckily, Moya continued the line, while Enya decided to go her own way. We all know how successful each one of them is, but one thing we have to admit - when Moya start singing live, her voice sounds as it is on the CD, with no need to be enhanced technically. While with Enya it's definitely not like that.

Comparing apples with pears really - Enya's sound involved up to 100 overdubs in the studio - maybe that's why she didn't tour much! On sleeve notes to Fuaim it is Moya who plays the harp and I'm pretty sure this is her in this fantastic footage.
