I bought a Backun clarinet from Anton a couple of weeks ago. He couldn't have been more helpful . Wonderful . I also bought a mouthpiece made by him which is really good and with it you get a great sound and tuning. Many many thanks. I recommend Dawkes and Anton for any advice -- well worth visiting personally.

After oiling how long should the instrument sit before playing again?
@dawkesmusic4 жыл бұрын
15-20 mins is usually fine. But we generally advise oiling the bore after playing, i.e not just before session.

I have a wood clarinet that hasn't been played I many years and oiled infrequently. So far, there aren't any cracks or warps. I'm looking for a more permanent method of storage/preservation. I'm thinking of a good oiling then vacuum sealing it. I wanted a professional opinion before doing this

Hi, we would not vacuum seal the clarinet as it prevents the wood from breathing naturally. The oiling is good and a case ( containing a humidifier) that is not kept in a damp or contrastingly airing cupboard would be best. Ideally the instrument should be played as this also keeps it regularly moist and will inhibit bore shrinkage.

+dawkesmusic. Thank you for replying. I'll make other plans. In the interim since my question, I've spoken to woodworkers and they essentially agree.

And nothing on the outside of the instrument?
@dawkesmusic3 жыл бұрын
Correct. There is no need to do anything to the wood on the outside of the instrument.
