This series is one of the best renditions of the Superman mythology. Superb writing, acting, and production values.

While it does come across as desperation for Clark to try to convince Elizabeth to try one more time to reconcile with Lex, it's also a sign of Clark trying to fix a damaged familial relationship. Lex having his father abandoning him and his mother, while also being a victim of abuse from his mother may explain Lex's issues, but it doesn't justify Lex's actions. Lex telling Elizabeth his issues does show that he cares about her and wants to at least try to repair his relationship with her.

I thought the same - it could be seen as fear or desperation but he could destroy Luthor with his little finger, well before he would have a chance to call in Doomsday

This hits close to home. While my parents were not the greatest, there was definitely a degree of separation with them. They would project this on their children. As a result, I have 2 brothers with substance abuse. In my case, my mother was the monster as she was so miserable with her life she took it out on everyone. I've seen this with children of divorced parents as a martial arts instructor, and it's a gut punch. To rebuild their self esteem is an uphill battle.

So was this Luthor actually innocent when he was put away? Or was he actually guilty of a bunch of stuff and he's an asshole for blaming somebody else for his problems?

Because Clark, being a sentimental imbecile, seriously thinks that it is just not right for a daughter to want to avoid her murderous psychopath of a father who is so terrifying that major crime bosses are afraid of him! Honestly, this show got under my skin enough last season when Peia Mannheim, murderous metahuman mob hitwoman, was treated as a candidate for sainthood just because she had cancer!

The show is trying to show that villains aren’t born evil it’s their past and how they were raised that coursed them to go down that road for example Clark was raised by a loving family by the Kent’s who hid his secret and helped him in a world who would see him so differently if they knew what he was Lex was raised by a abusive father and mother which made him realize he had to defend himself so he wouldn’t get hurt again two people that if switch would turn out like each other peia was using her powers for her crime boss husband even tho it was killing her showing her a devoted wife and mother wanting to protect her son from the nasty world they live in but what Superman is trying to do doesn’t make him a imbecile it makes him a beacon of hope that’s all he ever tries to do only this time doesn’t go his way because lex is far too gone for help even his daughter and future grand child can’t help

@@JustShin11 Tyler Hoechlin is actually the shortest of all the actors to play Superman. Even in terms of muscle mass. I'm he was way more built when he played Derek Hale on teen wolf. Beside When side Elizabeth was shorter I was comparing her to her previous appearance on Agents of Shield. I also wasn't 100% sure if she was pregnant. Because of the clothes was wearing. But with her being pregnant then it makes sense why she seem shorter.
