The weed is called Eichhornia crassipes and its introduced, native to South America, as a neophyte all over the tropic world. Its causing huge harm to local environments and is completely out of control. The EU and several other countries banned selling and cultivation a few years ago. Neophytes like that can cause similar problems to Environments as pollution and Littering.

@@Otternase420 No there certainly aren't. But that would be one way to feed the existing ones,encouraging population growth away from nincompoops with fast boats and propellers that cut them up. Usually a multiple avenue approach can yield results. I looked up the plant you gave taxonomy to,various insect introductions are recommended. Mechanical harvest could be made to work if a product could be developed that will sell. Animal feed,well bring the animals to the feed. And generations of dugongs could munch away. Once relatively still water has no sunlight penetration,whether giant water lilies or water hyacinth, massive changes occur. Oxygen content goes way down,critter populations change dramatically, fish populations,etc. Bad news all round.
